Maybe he hasn't done the model yet and the block looks boring and doesn't have a texture.
The problem with this is you need two tools to give one a name. What if I just want to name one of them and not do repairs?
I believe I have a solution for this.
If you have a tool you want to just rename, you'd simply put it in one of the two repair slots. Even though only one of the slots is filled, it would still have the resulting item in the third slot. If you did this and just added a name, it wouldn't cost xp.
This is my idea at least, I think it would work. Could probably be done better though.

For EXP, I would like to be able to repair items, possibly put them in storage using a special tool, into Bottles O' Enchanting. Thats pretty much all I wanted to have. I really think that 1.8 and up really destroyed the game, but that's how its gone, and I don't mind that much anymore.
I hope its the ability to repair enchanted tools. That seems like a good thing to spend XP on... A bunch of levels and some diamonds and *poof* your worn out 1 in 1000 sword that you enchanted is now as good as new and ready for battle.
YES! Is it Thursday yet? I've been wanting this for so long now, and it's even better then I had hoped because you can combine enchantments now!

Too bad by Thursday afternoon we'll see a good 10-20 thread complaining about how this isn't good enough. :/
Stoopid haters. I can't imagine what bad things they would have to say about such a cool feature... oh wait I can.
"The texture isn't good enough...exp doesn't fit for renaming...it costs too much exp..hate hate hate"
Or you could do what intelligent people do and just play the way you enjoy until you happen to accumulate enough XP to use on something.
You're not insinuating I am less than intelligent are you? As for this:
"enjoy until you happen to accumulate enough XP"
Is that the first 30 levels I got, or the second due to a "random enchant", or the third do to a "random enchant"; I know! It's the fourth try, when I still got the wrong enchantment...right?
Or perhaps I do enjoy how I play, and that the problem could be the random enchantments?
Also, please note my signature and think about how it applies to you and everyone else who fails to apply any manner of logic to their lives. Thank you.
Again you hurl veiled insults at me. Can you please point out how this is an "optional feature" and how I am "hating it". The strongest thing I have said is that it needs a bit of work. But please, show me how I am doing these "bad" things. And I will be sure to apologize for my misdeeds.
Anyway!
The new "hammer thing" looks highly interesting to me! Regardless of the "enchantment mechanics" in game, at least more content is being added. And that is always a good thing with me
-EDIT- (For clarification)
I just realized!
I have never used a mob spawner as a "xp grinder" or any other type of grinder. When I say "grind" I mean/meant having to time and again reach level 30 to get the enchantments I be after, because when I pick what to spend my money on. Well I don't get to see what I am buying...
(Would you go to a store and give someone 30 dollars, so you could reach in a large black bag hoping to get something worth 30 dollars?)
I'm not sure if this has been addressed, but I'll ask anyway:
If you can repair enchanted items and keep the enchantments, then what would be the point of getting more ores/minerals?
Sure, iron and gold is still useful (pistons and gold tracks), leather is still used for books and for fancy coloured armor, but what about diamonds?
Because it seems to me that once you get enough diamonds for 2 sets of good armor and 2 sets of good tools, you don't need any more diamonds; you just need EXP to repair them.

Repairing eats an item each time. You put in two and get one back. It's always worked that way and will with the new system. It's just that now you can pay a hefty XP cost for the luxury of scraping the enchantments off the two input items and putting them into the one you get out.

It's more or less keeping the longevity of your item, If you spent over 90 levels to get a good enchant you're going to want to keep it. So you'll be getting more xp to keep it. It's also quite expensive so you'll need to make more tools if that tool is about to break and from what I saw it takes 2 to repair the one or maybe it was just to combine not sure yet though..

Really? If it works that way then I'm fine with it.
How does it decide what enchantments to keep? Or is it random as well?
From what I've read, the enchantments on the output item are the union of the enchantments that were on the input items, with the XP cost being determined by how cool the enchantments are that you're trying to fuse into one item. This would seem to suggest that if you have enough XP, you could create some sort of ungodly cool hybrid tool, but the cost of maintaining it down the road could get expensive.

So, for example, let's say I have a Efficiency IV diamond pickaxe and a Unbreaking III diamond pickaxe. I can combine these 2, with a LOT of EXP, to get an awesome Efficiency IV, Unbreaking III diamond pickaxe?
Sounds awesome, but like you said, it might need a LOT of EXP to maintain a godly pickaxe.
Sounds like I'll be combing enchantments from villagers with my own finally!
Villagers are nice to us that way :). But seriously, that's a good idea. I wonder if there is a limit or we can keep combining stuff and make really overpowered weapons.

No, it's only Saturday. Too bad.

You're telling me you get the perfect enchantments on the first try? Without mods?
If so, you're the most lucky person that plays this game...If not, then my point still stands. The enchantment system + random = mess

It'd also be awesome if we had a hammer
Oh yeah, I forgot about that!
Great idea!
