ok, so lately i and possibly many other people, have seen the recent textures in the latest snapshot, and have found them to be disappointing.
OK.... its not that they necessarily look bad, its just that they're changing everything we're used to, i personally don't mind alot of the changes jeb has been making ( i do however find most of them to be utterly useless and i wish he could at-least slow down the updates a bit.) but looking at the new gravel texture, sure it works better with the pathways in villages but it does not really look like something you would find naturally, and would have probably been better off if he had just made a new block. and while the new carrot textures do look better than they did during the last snapshot they really don't fit the minecraft style.
and why the hell did they think changing the porkchop textures was a good idea!? its not that they look ugly but the old porkchop texture is on alot of the minecraft T-shirts and merchandise and its what all the people that use default textures have grown to know and love. not only that but alot of the new textures use a much larger color pallet wich isn't a bad thing its just that they look weird next to all the original default ones. and no i and many other people do not want the rest to be changed too,
but however, on a positive note i really love how jeb is going for a more customization aspect for the armor by adding dye-able leather armor and adding in mob masks. other than the textures, i really don't have any complaints and ive always wanted to be able to actually steer mounted pigs and i think notch put jeb in charge is because he knows if he continued working on the game it wouldn't go anywhere because he would be too afraid of ruining the feel of the game play
I don't care about the textures themselves, but the new food textures don't match too well with mostly every other sprite in the game.
What if Jeb/Dinnerbone/Etc wants to make the rest of the sprites fit in? Fine by me, but if you changed most of the food outlines just so five or so food items fit in with the originals and you have to adjust the entire default texture pack just so it's all consistent... I mean, really?

Did something happen to you in your childhood to give you this unreasonable fear of rutabaga?
It's the basis of minecraft, something most people see.
Also, i will look stupid wearing my "i minecraft" tshirt now...
No worse than all the old merch that has the old cobblestone texture.
You are paranoid. To answer the title question, Mojang is in charge of the textures, and they can do whatever they feel like with them.
This happens every single time a texture changes. Just like cobble and gravel, I give it a month before everyone forgets there was ever a change.

Exactly. When gravel changed, everyone complained about it, but about 3 weeks later everyone was just "Oh hey, gravel" instead of "HOLY $@!7 THIS GRAVEL SUCKS @$$!!!!!"

i liked the cobble texture better when it was changed from the start. its just the new textures just look too blurry and remove the simplicity. they look just odd.

Keep calm, and carry on.
Your t-shirt is now vintage, congratulations. When they release a t-shirt with the new porkchop texture, you can flaunt yours as a proud veteran and look down up on those who wear the new texture like slovenly pigs.
I for one appreciate the new textures, new additions, and weekly snapshots. It's nice to come home on Thursday and find a fresh minecraft.jar waiting for me to toy and tool around with. I'm quite fond of the textures they're rolling out they add a level of maturity and finish to the game that I hadn't realized was missing before.

i still prefer the old gravel texture. its not the fact that its changed its just how out of place. the new gravel texture is at least reasonable because it fits in with all the other textures

i wish i shared your optimism and though the new sprites do look more complex id settle with the more simplistic style. and the weekly snapshots are a good way to keep the updates a bit more seamless and bug free but yet it does kind of put pressure on you as to where the direction of the game play is going.mojang is the only game company i know of that does this aside from Atari around the time they were releasing new titles for the 2600.

so whats your opinions on the new textures?.
I don't think the color palette is an issue.
Also, I really hope someone changes the giant mushroom textures, because they look horrible.
This. This right here.

yeah i typed this up rather quickly. and yes i agree they're kind of bland.

On a serious note they should keep both giving vanilla 2 texture packs. So classic and modern styles with both artists styles.

Texture pack.

For the life of me, I will never understand why people dislike things to look good.
Get a texture pack for your shirt then.
