So I was working on this really cool resource pack a while ago, but bad progress nonwithstanding, I think I found something much better... I'm probably gonna never release another custom Minecraft map.Until we meet again...
I decided to make another world, at first I was disappointed with the spiky towering terrain. i decided to explore it a bit and found some really nice terrain. I used seed -3396013442823641280
screenshots below, a bit more than I usually post.

I recommend using NBTExplorer, copy in the seed as well.

Wasn't he refefring to both page 3(sliders) and page 4? Anyway, yes, they both do the same thing, only that you can be more accurate on page 4. Also, I noticed that you can actually go beyond what the sliders allow you to do(and page 4 too actually, which I find kind of weird) by entering the numbers directly into the preset. For example entering 10 000 instead of 5 000 for the main scale options haha.
The first 2 pages won't really change the actual terrain, and since I'm pretty sure that most people will want to(or at least try to ) change the terrain, having 2 "expert" pages without any info on what all the stuff does, seems kind of funny...lol.
Making customized worlds right now is so frusturating, because I have no idea what all the sliders mean, and there's that super annoying bug where you click on a save file once... it actually opens it. Removing test maps is a chore because of it(and it's actually easier to just remove the folder in the minecraft folder directly).
Yeah, that's what I mean: How do you make these awesome worlds??

The Minecraft Wiki has started documenting what some of the options mean. In the mean time, you'll just have to play around with the options by yourself, or play with the presets that others have posted on this thread.
This is starting to look more like the old terrain a few members have been yearning for.
I decided for fun to use the random settings to make randomized worlds. Some settings I kept constant, such as keeping all structures spawning.
Note: Some worlds will be laggy in survival mode to begin with but if you move away from the area you spawned in there's a good chance the lag may ease up.
Seeds are listed nest to the world number.

World 1 3857959501392801159
The spawn is in an ocean biome and the sea level is around 80 (I'm never sure how to measure it with the head and feet height).
The plateaus are at around level 250. Travelled North to find mainland and see what it looked like. It was taking too long so I use the teleport feature. For a moment the biome said savanna plateaus but when the terrain loaded it changed to deep ocean. I wonder if this world is bugged? Anyway it's taking too long so I'll leave the preset values in case anyone else wants to take a look at it.
This one looks a bit more ordinary. The spawn is in a forest biome and the sea level is around 56.
With the water generating lower than normal it would appear there is a lot of grassless dirt. The suroounding grass is beginning to spread onto the bare ground.
I Think it might suit players who want something a bit more varied and exotic without going to extremes like World 1.
Very buggy-looking terrain. Still interesting, I want to know what the mainland looks like. However everywhere I teleport the biome changes from a mainland one to an ocean one.
This one isn't mine, (from this Reddit thread), but I thought I should post it here since it's probably the best one I've seen in terms of actually being playable in survival. It adds more large hills to the world with some height variation, as well as make Extreme Hills more extreme. It's really playable.
Not sure if posted already, but on the seed TEST, there's literally tons of terrain in pitch darkness and loads of floating islands, with grass. I'll get pics later (if I can be bothered), but here's the preset:
It's also worth noting that it does drop your fps by at least 5, or for me anyways. This is what AMPLIFIED should have been. NOTE: I set the height scale to 6000 and spammed the randomise button tons on page 3. I didn't touch much else, other than diamond size, but that was just for fun. I didn't expect so epic terrain.

hope this topic grows even more after the rest of the terrain generation features are added! I'm looking forward to having the preview option added before creating.

What is the average load time for a custom worldtype? I have tried three times now to create a custom world and I seem to get stuck on "Building terrain" I started this latest one at 11:25pm my time and it still hasn't loaded.
The only thing I have done on the most recent attempt was half the sea level to 31 (becasue the sliders don't allow me to set it to 32 for some reason), set the lava lakes to 4 and water lakes to 40.
This one has pretty awesome mountains Sorry about the lack of pics, I was hunting for a cool survival world and I don't have any mountain climbing gear yet
Yeah, maybe it does. Anyway, my point was that if you make really crazy terrain it can crash Minecraft or get stuck when loading. It has for me anyway.
Actually, I believe that the "baseSize" slider controls the median height of the terrain.
I found a pretty cool one by randomization and changing a few numbers on the fourth page. It creates layers of floating islands above hilly terrain. Here it is:

I believe it's setting dependent. I've had worlds load in about a minute (which is my average loading time for new normal worlds), had others take 3-5, and others never load at all. The only worlds that don't load are those with lava oceans enabled, or lava lake rarity less than 80.
Have you tried remaking the world without touching the lava lakes value? It should load that way.

Wow, that's beautiful man.

I think this is my favorite generated world so far!
