For those of you who arnt aware, Dinnerbone in a recent tweet said that he is thinking of The Ultimate Plan, which involves EnderDragon Eggs and Endermites. What are your speculations? (Maybe the egg would act as a spawner!)

I think that you'll have to hunt endermites for meat to feed the hatched dragon. Considering the grind would require you to effectively compete with Endermen for the mites, this could be a challenge.

that's not something that would be worthy of an ultimate plan.
Mojang loves the anti-climax so much, that it would hardly be surprising if it was the ultimate plan. If I had to guess, Dinnerbone said the phrase to be funny, no other reason.
What if his ultimate plan is... Not to tell anyone his ultimate plan?! ON TOPIC: I really have no idea, to be honest. For all we know it could be that the egg makes a waterfall of rainbow jeb_ sheep that are ridden by upside down invlunerable squids named "IT'S GOLD!" when right clicked.

Both of these are entirely likely, as Mojang has an odd sense of humour, especially Dinnerbone; however as April 1st is still a few weeks away, I'm going to put my eggs in the "Woo, finally a ridable Dragon" basket.
Steve must hatch the Dragon egg; for when hatched in just the right way the hatchling assumes the form of the first creature it sees but of the opposite gender.
This way there will finally be a companion and mate for Steve and he will finally no longer be Forever Alone..

Personally, I don't think any dragons added will be ridable. The entire concept isn't really immersive, is more than a little OP, and there is no possible way to balance it that isn't still unbalanced or just plain obnoxious.
Trainable, perhaps. Something following like a pet dog/cat, maybe. But I can't see ridable unless it can't fly.
How about if an endermite reaches the dragon egg it hatches into an enderdragon and attacks. You have another enderdragon fight in survival without having to use commands. Then that dragon will drop a dragon egg, so you could fight dragons to the end of time. To spice it up Dinnerbone could add in random different dragon type each time. So someday someone might ask, "Have you defeated all the dragon types in Minecraft?"Almost forgot. This could happen in the End, the Nether, or Overworld.

So... a series of hard-to-defeat creatures with griefing potential?
The Ultimate Plan is to do nothing and make all the speculators look silly for once again speculating minecraft updates based on a tweet
What's your point? Do you have anything relevant to add? And, so what if it is; if speculating on a new feature is more fun than actually playing the game, why should we care? At least it keeps us busy until 1.8 is released.

I'm not sure how the Endermite is supposed to reach the Dragon Egg, a lot of people remove them as trophies, so it's have to be another player-generated boss like the Wither.

I wouldn't call the Enderdragon "hard to defeat" more like a barely (and poorly) implemented feature that is for most experienced survival players only a mere stepping stone to grind out a few more achievements.

By "hard to defeat" I meant time-consuming and boring. Not difficult. I think I wrote that at something like 2 AM, but I'm sorry for misspeaking.

Well, I shouldn't have assumed what you meant by it, just a misunderstanding then. Something we both agree on though, it does take a bit longer than it needs to; and even with decent gear it's not a fun, or particularly challenging battle. I guess we can only hope that Dinnerbone's apparent interest in the End will extend to more than whatever the Endermite is intended to develop into. THis is obviously pure speculation at this point, but with all the tweaks to AI maybe the Enderdragon will get some love soon. Hell, I'd start an new game just to play it through again if the battle was a little more challenging...
I see only two ideas in this thread that make any bit of sense, and would not cripple fairness nor the way the game is played.
Those ideas are
A: That leading an endermite to the egg would -in a manner similar to Terraria- Release the spirits of good and evil blah blah, and initiate the spawning of rare Red Dragons in overworld Extreme hills/Mesa biomes. This would be a fun new challenge after you have defeated the games first boss to go dragon hunting. Maybe find Dragonbone for something, I dont know. In This situation, Red Dragons would not be tameable or rideable.
B: That leading an endermite to the egg would simply spawn the Enderdragon again (only in The End, of course), so that more than one player may defeat the dragon, or so one player may defeat the dragon more than once, perhaps so the dragon could drop an item such as the Nether Star (End Star?), that may be renewable, just like the Nether Stars
These are the only two idea i see are large enough to be worthy of "The Ultimate Plan", but also not just.. kinda thrown together and not very structurally sound.
(However, it could very well be possible that clicking the egg just teleports it and spawns an endermite. April fools from Mojang)

Great 'ultimate plan" there.....
I agree, this makes sense.
