As some of you are probably aware, I'm not afraid to voice my opinions on this forum, even when those opinions haven't been the most popular, and it's been a while since I've felt the need to have my say on another of Minecraft's updates. Don't get me wrong, I love all the new features of 1.7; it's easily my favourite update so far, but sadly I feel the execution of the actual release was somewhat rushed. I know Mojang is only a small company with an even smaller development team, but even so; why release an update that is far from finished?
Judging by the release pattern last week, which ended with the actual release of 1.7 with the prerelease only having been about for a matter of days, and definitely in a less stable condition than some of the snapshots from only a couple of weeks earlier; so many things are broken, even if only a little. To move on to a pre-release and then the update in the space of a week when the snapshots were becoming less stable week by week just boggles my mind.
The fact that the windows server.exe isn't available on Mojang.com, but strangely is on minecraft.net, shows a level of inconsistency even below what I'd come to expect. Just in case you didn't know the server.exe is more or less broken, so I'm pretty sure that's why they're not advertising it's existence.
I'm not sure what I'm expecting in way of response to this; maybe I'm hoping someone will have a fix, or remind me of something I'm somehow missing that will fix some or all of the issues with the newest update. Does anyone share my opinions? How many of you reading this have 1.7.2 working just fine in singleplayer and/or multiplayer?
They always seem to rush the beginning releases, which is terrible since they have to make like 6 other version releases before it's actually stable. We don't mind waiting, in fact it usually benefits us to do so, but I guess they don't wait anymore. I'm somewhat glad it's having issues because it gives me time to catch up to it.
Yes, 1.7.2 is rushed, all I can see - No sound events for certain stuff (like withers, zombies, wolves), and even MIRRORED TEXTURES! Once I saw a flipped texture of iron ore, and also a glitch with beds and doors.
Have anyone ever played any I mean any online games with 0 bugs when a patch is released?
Also would liek to point out that MoJang did say in the pre- release that if major bugs or alot of them are presented they will hold off on the official release.... welp guess no one had any compliments or issues that made them hold off on the release.
Now about the texture and sound bugs not everyone is having this issue..... I know for a fact I have no issues with either of these. So this is either a corruption that happens here and there or something from thats conflicting in said persons minecraft folder. Have anyone tried deleting all there MC files? and starting clean, not saying delete your save file tho

We're not sying "Oh look, the 1.7 update has bugs, what a shame" but that they should have wait a little bit more to fix some bugs, I mean, sure there will never be a bug-free game, but come on, this update exceeds the normal amount of bugs.
The sky darkening when you go inside is a feature IIRC.
I thought it was a bug? There were confirmed reports on the bug tracker, right? Either way, it's kind of horrible IMO. There's no point building a house somewhere with a nice view, if you can't even look out and see what is going on because everything looks all black and weird. Also ruins taking screenshots from inside caves, overhangs, etc. It just looks... totally bad. If it's a feature then it needs to go, because I can't imagine a reason anyone would want this unnatural visual glitch.
That and the bug I've been getting with constant overlapping music that never ever ends, should have been fixed before release. But I'm sure they'll get to them shortly (I hope?)

Honestly, the fact that they said that really just makes it worse. This is NOT a bug free release.... not even close. Honestly, I cant remember the last one that was THIS bad. Major bugs have been presented to them. They simply havent DONE anything about them. Mojira, as usual, is CHOKED with the things. And many of them can be easily found by the player simply going through the game a bit.
Hell, I cant even play the damn game at the moment, unless I want to play it with my chunk-loading distance cut in half for no apparent reason, a glitch that persisted through EVERY one of the 1.7 snapshots. Tolerated that as long as I could, but my patience with it finally broke And likely, that bug is NOT going away any time soon, as Mojang is usually really bad at bug squashing. Always have been. And yeah, that one's on Mojira too, and mentioned in a couple of topics on the forums here. Gonna have to wait for Optifine to be available to fix that one, because derp.
They SERIOUSLY need to spend a couple of months NOT CREATING NEW CONTENT, like, AT ALL, and JUST fixing bugs. It's the only way that the number of bugs is ever going to REALLY get lowered. Particularly considering that they're a small developer.
Definitely not the most bug-free version they have released, but I'm sure they had good reason for their release date. Its possible that they wanted it released before Minecon, maybe even merely so they would not be constantly asked about it while there.

And if they tried that (say like for nearly 3 months after 1.6 dropped and no snapshots), then the "Mojang has abandoned us and has no new ideas and the game is dead" camp shows up screaming.
People are upset over some bugs?
Diablo III launch, no one got to play. Why? Blizzard pretty much created their own dianial of service issue because they didn't have the servers to backbone the game.
Knights of the Old Republic on line released a patch that lasted live less than half a day before all the servers went down and millions of people got tossed out of the game. The bug in that patch was so bad that they had to throw out the game data and revert to a backup from the past day causing everyone to loose half a day of gaming.
Those are bugs...
The fact the computer can't make the bed? Common! You wish your mistakes were that simple.
Don't forget that some bugs (especially in today's industry), can't realistically be found by the developers until after release. Most bugs that are found, are done so because of feedback. Additionally, not all bugs are actual bugs and a lot of features in games start out as or are entirely poor code that isn't visible by the tester (and thus, not a bug).
The definition of a bug is that it bugs us, hence the name. If it doesn't, it's not a bug. In code, you either have non-functionality (called "exceptions"), partial functionality (poor coding or design, including bugs, glitches and certain exceptions) and full functionality (things that people enjoy without problems).
My whole view is that you can do all the testing internally and with a few snapshots, but you get the REAL data when 1 million people play a game.
Heck, Pokemon X and Y will break completely if you save on the streets of the main city, and that game is larger in scope and player base and they missed it.

You speak words of wisdom!
I do agree that Update 1.7 was rushed. I was completely blown away out of my chair, out through the door, straight past my parents' bedroom and onto the veranda when I discovered that it was already released last week. I did not believe for one second that 1.7 was ready for a full release.
Ok, so firstly, there seem to be a lot of bugs. I'm currently not experiencing many, but I haven't played for long.
Secondly, the Shaders menu is non-existent. There is still the "super secret settings" button. Frankly, it is not so secret anymore and desperately needs a change as soon as possible! There should be a button saying "Shaders" and when clicking it, another menu will appear with a button for each shader. Then, the player can choose which one they want. It's annoying that the player has to really on the debug screen to know what shader is on. This a full-release game! The debug screen shouldn't be required so much. It should only be needed for really technical stuff, such as eye-level and co-ordinates, maybe biomes.
Thirdly, some biomes really needed a touch-up. The Roofed Forest biome is not very gloomy. There should be a varient found in the centre of the biomes that has thicker canopies, taller trees, spider webs and lots of monsters! It also has an ugly grass colouring. The desert should also have a completely barren varient (where Desert Temples are most common) and the Desert M should have oases.
Fourthly, colour transitions between biomes is still bad. Instead of transitioning across 2-3 blocks, they should transition across 20-30 blocks. I thought this would be adressed in the update, but no. It doesn't matter as it can be done whenever with little to know repurcussions.
Fifthly, oceans were not adressed well. They're terrible! Nothing of interest besides squids! There should be visible salmon, clownfish and pufferfish. There should be more than just gravel on the floor. There should be coral. There should be pre-generated structures that make sense under oceans, like shipwrecks. There could be the occasional watch tower filled with monster spawners (an idea from some cool guy on the forums).
Sixthly, witches can spawn anywhere. I hope this doesn't last. They should simply spawn more often in witch huts, or be able to spawn within a certain radius around the huts.
Seventhly, I'm bummed out that stained glass was added but not dyeable beds. Huh...the developers so could have done it with all the other dyeable blocks being added.
Eighthly, maps can show different coloured clay, glass, etc. But still don't have unique colours for blocks such as Sandstone and Netherrack. That was a seriously missed opportunity. Ninethly, and most importantly: The terrain is just not as improved as it could have been. There could have been: multi-layer rivers with much more variety in size, much taller mountains and therefore higher layers at which snow spawns, better looking beaches and gravel beaches, better looking water bedding, larger varieties in lakes, ponds and creeks, volcanoes, more variety in caves, better generated structures with more rooms and less glitching within ravines and all that, maybe even improvements to the Nether. There are just so many things that could have been done!
And there are many other things that aren't related to unfinished-ness but are just designs that I'm definitely not a fan of. But there are so many things to state that I've gotten quite bored of writing.
I know I sound really whiney or demanding, but I guess I just get carried away when an update as hyped up as this ended up unfinished. Don't forget, I still like this update and will gladly continued to play Minecraft. However, there will always be that thought at the back of my head when playing about how this and that could have been added. Oh well, time to play Minecraft!!!
I can see by some player's reactions that the general mood on this subject isn't a very positive one. I'm surprised that Mojang haven't addressed the issues, or even acknowlegded them; I guess I shouldn't be that surprised though, what we have is whatever the devs could do before the deadline, anything else is going to have to wait until after Minecon it seems.
Was thinking of getting a six month server subscription, so I can host a server from there; I don't want to waste £60, if it turns out Minecraft runs no better from it. If anyone could give me any feedback in this regard, that would be great...

Aside from a few quirks in the sound engine, I haven't seen any bugs really.
