I'm quite happy with how it is now, thank you very much. So much for speaking for everyone, there.
YOU might be happy, but that comes at an expense of a feature that I like. If all the features were in the game, then we would all have what we want. That's what I mean by making everyone happy.

I think you are going to love my Survival Let's Play series on YouTube! It's called Spaceboot1's Garden. I make pretty things.

Careful while backtracking, walking backwards without looking leaves you viable to trip and fall.
Anyways, adding another block to the game just to appease a trivial issue should be out of the question because it simply is not worth it. The majority rules in the big bad world, and majority would rather you shut it and get a resource pack.
Besides re texturing the poppy back to a flower, which takes a few seconds, you can also rename them pretty much as easily.
Just go into your minecraft folder and and open the versions folder. Find the version your using click that folder open. Then open the jar with your favorite program and go into the assets folder. Inside you'll see the "lang" folder. Open that folder then open the language file. Use the search function on your word processing program and search for poppy. It should find a line that says "tile.poppy.name=Poppy". Just change the second Poppy to Rose. Save, close and open up minecraft with roses just as they always were.
My point is...This game is pretty open, code wise, and its a little silly to worry about something as simple as a block (in this case a flower block) when a really fast search can usually help you modify the game pretty much any way you want pretty simply.

Adding another block is out of the question???? What do you think Jeb JUST DID? He just added like seven! And one more is out of the question???

I think that this may be one of the things giving me a weird feeling about this snapshot... As much as I normally hate the people who say this, it's really starting not to feel like Minecraft any more... (Not just because of the Rose being gone. Savannah colors, fancier flower textures for the new flowers...)
YOU might be happy, but that comes at an expense of a feature that I like. If all the features were in the game, then we would all have what we want. That's what I mean by making everyone happy.
You can't make everyone happy. You can only make changes with the goal of making most people happy, with a few standouts who always have a problem with any bit of change.

He does have a point though, this is the first time I'm agreeing with SpaceBoot, some other people are upset with Roses being gone. Just keep Roses and Poppies... :L If they never bring them back, I WILL retexture them and rename them Rose in ALL the Resource Packs I use (Obviously for personal use.).
Hi Jeb_, I know you're reading this. I just want to say I'm glad you're trying to make minecraft better.
Unfortunately, I just loaded up the latest snapshot, and I found out that the old rose is completely gone. Not only did I like the old rose, but I always thought of it as an iconic part of what Minecraft is.
What does Minecraft think the sun looks like? A big yellow square in the sky.
What does Minecraft think a pile of dirt looks like? A randomly pixellated brown cube.
Far from being a bad thing, I think these sorts of quirks are what gives Minecraft its charm, and part of the reason why it's so popular is that it has its own aesthetic that it's not afraid to flaunt.
What does Minecraft think a flower looks like? The iconic Minecraft rose, of course, which is now gone. (What are iron golems going to offer to villagers now?)
I realize you think you're making Minecraft more realistic by making roses grow in a bush instead. And in some cases I'm in favour of a bit more realism. Just not at the expense of stuff that we've learned to love. Also, the new rose bush looks like a cultivated rose, and I've always thought of the world of Minecraft as a wild and simple place, where singular roses grow bold and proud and defiant. And if players really want a rose bush garden, why not give them a recipe for a rose bush?
And a thing I don't understand: you're adding several new flowers to the game, so why delete one of the main old ones? If you're in favour of more flowers, why are you deleting flowers?
In the end, Jeb_, the fact is, I don't need you. I will go on to retexture and rename the old flower back to what it was, and continue to play the Minecraft that I love. But the more people do this, the less contact you will have with the actual players of the game, and the less you will be able to please them. I'm not sad for me, I've lived the Minecraft dream, and continue to live it. I'm sad for you, and for all the new players who will play with a watered down lame* version of Minecraft.
*Not actually lame; there are some features I really like, but others are like the new rose: lame.
I was thinking the same thing they should at least have it were when you break the rose bush you get a rosé and to get a rosé bush you use silk touch on shears they took away the greatest minecraft thing and switched with a no name rose wannabe
but I always thought of it as an iconic part of what Minecraft is.
I never thought so.
What does Minecraft think the sun looks like? A big yellow square in the sky.
A few prereleases of 1.9 had round moons and suns, if I recall.
What does Minecraft think a flower looks like? The iconic Minecraft rose, of course, which is now gone. (What are iron golems going to offer to villagers now?)
Roses were replaced with Rose Bushes so that they can be renewable; the Rose Item that we have today was "promoted" to a Poppy. Visually it just adds a dark spot in the middle of the flower.
Iron golems will offer Poppies and tell them to never forget.
I realize you think you're making Minecraft more realistic by making roses grow in a bush instead. And in some cases I'm in favour of a bit more realism. Just not at the expense of stuff that we've learned to love.
Speak for yourself, please.

The Rose Bush item is a lot closer to "wild" than the carefully pruned and perfectly hued Red Rose item from 1.6 and previous.
And a thing I don't understand: you're adding several new flowers to the game, so why delete one of the main old ones? If you're in favour of more flowers, why are you deleting flowers?
The Rose was not deleted, it was changed into the Poppy. Rose Bush makes more sense both as a wild plant growing in groups as well as in domesticated gardens. Single stems with a single flower dominating an entire square meter, not so much.

Haha wow... He changed the Rose's texture and name to be a Poppy. You've presented ABSOLUTELY no evidence or information beyond "I like the way it was" to substantiated such strong assertions in your closing statement. Your arguments that attempt to appeal to reality are based on confabulations, and your arguments about the Red Rose being "Iconic" have very little weight, either.
I think that this may be one of the things giving me a weird feeling about this snapshot... As much as I normally hate the people who say this, it's really starting not to feel like Minecraft any more... (Not just because of the Rose being gone. Hmm lets see, same blocks? Check. Same name? Check. Still cubes? Check. Same gameplay? Check.
Yup, still minecraft.
They added some biomes and some flowers. They didn't change the world into circles or anything, it's just as 'minecraft' as it ever has been. (coming from an infdev player too)
I just thought of something what are they going to call red dye it was called rose red dye?
It's the colour of a red rose, doesn't mean it's made out of roses. Ever been to a hardware store and seen the paint colours? 'swedish yellow' 'tango mango' 'barbados blue'
Pretty sure none of those paints were made with swedish people OR mangoes.
Really? You never saw the fan art? You never saw rose cut-outs at Minecraft events? You've never seen a YouTube video with someone giving someone else a rose for the symbolism?
New Minecraft: "I love you so much, here, have this giant bush!"
Don't get me wrong, I think there's poetry in the giant bush too. But you can't convince me that the original rose needed to be deleted in order to make that happen.
A few prereleases of 1.9 had round moons and suns, if I recall.
Right, and that was the wrong call, so they changed it back. I'm hoping they'll do the same with the rose. At least put the old rose back in, is all I'm asking for. I don't hate the new rose bush, nor the new poppy. I kind of like them, but why did the rose have to be deleted?
Roses were replaced with Rose Bushes so that they can be renewable; the Rose Item that we have today was "promoted" to a Poppy. Visually it just adds a dark spot in the middle of the flower.
Uh, roses were already renewable.
Even you put "promoted" in scare quotes. Even you don't believe it's a real promotion.
Also, visually it removes the thorns. I don't expect everyone to be able to agree with me on a matter of artistic interpretation, but I think the original Minecraft rose was a work of art. I think it's disrespectful to the original artist who came up with that sprite (not sure if Notch or Junkboy).
Iron golems will offer Poppies and tell them to never forget.
True, and I've never been a huge fan of the fact that iron golems offer a rose and nothing else. I always felt like that particular feature was begging to be expanded into something useful or interesting.
Speak for yourself, please.
When I said "we" I'm only including those who voluntarily include themselves. If you don't want to be part of the "we", I never said you were. However, can you tell me you didn't get at least a little bit comfortable with the old rose? Or are you telling me you were wishing for its destruction the moment you loaded up your first Minecraft world? Are you telling me you never even once planted a rose on one of your builds? You never once stopped to admire a rose in the game world? You never once gathered a rose without immediately crushing it into dye?
The Rose Bush item is a lot closer to "wild" than the carefully pruned and perfectly hued Red Rose item from 1.6 and previous.
If we're being slaves to reality, a wild rose probably wouldn't look very visually interesting anyways. Besides, when a player wants a rose, they want the iconic rose. A singular, thorny, blood red, honest-to-goodness rose. The kind of "rose" you see for the first hundred results of a Google image search. The kind of rose a person would draw in pictionary.
The Rose was not deleted, it was changed into the Poppy. Rose Bush makes more sense both as a wild plant growing in groups as well as in domesticated gardens. Single stems with a single flower dominating an entire square meter, not so much.
This is what bothers me about the change. "It wasn't deleted, it was changed." That's just semantics, and it's not going to work. A rose by any other name and texture IS NOT A FREAKING ROSE.
And if we're going to talk about the inappropriateness of a flower dominating a 1-meter square of earth, then lets examine every other flower Jeb_ just put in. Do poppies make sense occupying a square meter each? Of course not!
Well, I've added a few arguments in this post.
What I don't understand is why you can't just let my argument be. "I like it the way it was" is a perfectly reasonable argument for a feature to be left in. The burden should be on the person who wants to delete a feature. Why must you insist: "No, we can't have the old rose!" Was the old rose so bad that it must be excised from everyone's version of Minecraft? Was it so bad that Jeb_ has to punish me by making me do the work of adding the old texture and name back?
I don't expect everyone to be able to agree with me on a matter of artistic interpretation, but I think the original Minecraft rose was a work of art. I think it's disrespectful to the original artist who came up with that sprite (not sure if Notch or Junkboy).
I don't think either of them would care really, the rose felt like it was made in a couple of minutes and was intended to be replaced later by a proper artist.
The rose was an AWFUL texture really, bad colour choice and pretty average overall design. It did fit with minecraft but that's only because it's coders that are making the textures, not artists (even though they have an extremely talented artist - eld, on their team now)
What I don't understand is why you can't just let my argument be. "I like it the way it was" is a perfectly reasonable argument for a feature to be left in.
Because that's arguing with an opinion validated by nonacceptance of change. Saying that you liked it is a statement, one that must be backed up with reasoning. It is not a reason and therefore cannot be an argument by itself.
Spaceboot...
First: Isn't this supposed to be in Suggestions?
Second: If people don't agree, fine! Everybody is entitled to their OWN OPINION.
Third: Thinking about it, it doesn't really matter anymore.
Fourth: I have a feeling Yoshi will see this. And I hope so.
This is my favourite solution. Simple and gives everybody what they want.
