I don't think its bad if you want bad remember the first Halloween update that was a disappointment.
The one that added the Nether? That was actually pretty good. The Pretty Scary update, on the other hand...
I still hold 1.6 as a rather meh update. It's better than some of the more recent updates but not as good as some of the new ones or most of the old ones.
Source? You have no idea what it will do, don't make assumptions.
Did I miss something?
Well it makes a custom map that uses new sound effects and such easier to use. You know, because now you just load a resource pack instead of what ever you did before for custom sounds.
You guys wanted Mod API, the new launcher is a step towards that. You wanted horses, they added them and now you call this update the worst one of all. Resource packs, they have much more potential than texture packs and don't require mcpatcher. Yet you complain about those. No matter what they do people will complain about things that don't need to be complained about.

Barely any of us cared about Mod API. We just want to play the game.

I am so mad at the Sky fanboys who are like "ADD BUUUDDDER TWO MINCRFT CUZ BURDR Z SP ASWUM ND STUFZ BUDDERBUDDERBUDDER :D:D:D:D" that I am dedicating my signature to stopping them. I had gone into more depth, but the stupid signature limit stopped me. Oh well.
my opinion is this one of the coolist updated cuz we gotten hoarses a long waited mob and coal locks which to anyone who has the amout of coal I do would be glad cuz I have 14 stacks of coal and 42 coal ore but the moast unconvenient cuz many people are having problems with the new launcher and any one that's raging at mojang for the launcher not working its not there fault it's LWJGL's fault

There are two legitimate reasons to dislike this update:
Players with low-end computers are apparently experiencing a major FPS drop with this update, which IMO is likely caused by some of the groundwork for the future Mod API. We've seen similar FPS drops in 1.3 and 1.5, both of which also included some groundwork for the Mod API.
The new Minecraft launcher, ironically created as part of the groundwork for the future Mod API, is at this time a bit difficult to set up when it comes to non-vanilla versions of Minecraft.
Everything else is subjective.
I, for one, like the gold apple and healing potion "nerfs," because I find vanilla Minecraft too easy, and I liked to disable natural regeneration by deliberately starving myself. The old recipes for golden apples and glistering melons were way too cheap IMO. When I combine these "nerfs" with the new natural regeneration rule, I've finally got a comfortably hard difficulty level for Minecraft.

minecraft is easy but i lag to bad to see all the zombies and what there doing so say there are 10 i can't fight them off at 1 fps it is not going to work i die to much maybe if it didn't lag i might like this update a bit more
Until 1.6, I'd always thought of Minecraft as a rather casual game, even on survival. Now I'm starting to get a repetitive strain injury from constantly clicking my LMB ;-)
Ok, I do agree that 1.6 is certainly not as good as many other updates, but any new stuff is better than nothing. The reasons you gave for it being bad are pretty lame, sorry to say.
First of all, gunpowder just got another use in 1.4, fireworks. As for slimeballs, have you not used any of the things in the new update you are complaining about? Slimeballs are an ingredient in the crafting recipe for leads! Gunpowder is also used for TNT which is probably one of the most fun blocks in the game, and slimeballs are already used for sticky pistons, a very common block for anyone who does much with redstone. Sponges are creative only for now, but I have a feeling they will be included in the ocean biome changes for 1.7.
For your complaints about the zombies, cave spiders and silverfish are basically the same thing, weak mobs individually (except perhaps for the cave spiders poisoning), but tougher to fight when they gang up as cave spiders and silverfish do. I think the zombie hording is a good idea in general, but still needs some refining. But that is to be expected with any new update, as are the bugs that you mention. They have already fixed quite a few with 1.6.2, and I'm sure they will be fixing more as time goes on.
On topic, I'm more annoyed with how they broke fishing than anything. I know it's not exactly a prime feature and is going to be overhauled, but at least having it work until then helps. I'd like to be able to advance some villagers without having to deal with glitched fishing.
says they people who don't lag out every time zombies swarm
um..... maybe cause THIS UPDATE SUCKS
i quit
if you don't want to see them don't look them up and don't post on them -_-guys guys guys we all know mark's right about this
but for real some one tell me one good thing about this update besides coal blocks
2. Why they have to ruin mod installing?

Or you could get Java 1.6 instead of expecting programs to keep using the same outdated version of Java.
