I thought Mojang was starting to make "themed updates", and 1.6 was going to be the mob update, and 1.7 the biome update (1.5 the redston update and 1.4 the halloween update). But i must be mistaken, beause we only have 1 new mob, with 3 variations and 2 of the variations haven't even been activated yet. I was very happy with the addition with horses, and i thought 1.6 was off to a good start, but seriously, instead of birds, we get colored clay (what am i susposed to do with that?) and instead of fish we get a coal block. (pretty minor addition) and instead of red dragons we get new sounds, name tags and hay bales. 1.6 is shaping up to be very dispointing, but it could redeem itself if it added these three new mobs before the release:
Birds-(besides chickens)- flying birds, you know, like sparrows and chikidees? Blue jays and Robins? Would add great ambience to the game.
Fish (visible)- Weve been promised actual fish for a while, with a mob update i would expect them very much.
Red Dragons-We have been promised these for a while too, and there excuse "too hard to code" well copy the code from a mod or something, like you did with horses!
Bonus: DinnerBone hinted pandas, but probaly for 1.7 (in the bamboo biome)
how many more snapshots will we have before the final release?
I am not 100% sure, though I know that there are atleast a couple more. Also, just because it's a mob update, doesn't mean that they're only going to add mobs. They are going to update other mobs as well. Leads, nametags, haybales are ALL MOB RELATED.
I can see alot of uses for the attribute system, but with the NBTtags serving the same purpose, it seems a tad redundant. It could be just as well I'm not seeing the difference though.
I'm not really wild about the idea of red dragons, I don't see a way they could add them w/o being improbable or redundant. Birds and fish would be pretty interesting though.
I don't think Mojang ever confirmed this as the theme. There seem to be a lot of game/interface changes such as riding system, nametags, leads (hoping this leads to linkable minecarts,) resource packs, attributes (NBT editable,) and regional difficulty. Most of these fall under the theme of mobs, but keep in mind they can also be part of a greater theme. (Just like how they crammed in a bunch of unrelated stuff and called it the "Pretty Scary Update".)
Never. That was just this forum, hyperventilating again on unconfirmed rumors, blown way out of proportion. The first post of this thread being a very good example.

Sounds like you won't really be happy until everything from Mo' Creatures is added to vanilla.
year now i think you CANT tame horses
fish may cause LAG SPIKE OF COMPUTER EXPLOSION because my computer is poop
red dragons? YEAR TAKE THAT PIGS THAT HAVE A WIRED CPU AND FOLLOW MEARROUND
If they're adding the attribute system, why don't they use it? They should make it so that wearing armor slows the player down a bit and some other similar stuff. Pretty pointless for them to be adding it if they're not going to use it for survival. I don't mind them adding map making features, but there should be a balance. Everyone plays survival of some form, but not everyone plays custom maps.
I don't want Mo'creatures in vanilla either, but it would be nice to have some atmospheric mobs in Minecraft such as birds, fishes, and squirrels.

The attribute system is pretty cool.
They never did say it was a mob update. They never even said the theme of the update to begin with.
Mostly moved on. May check back a few times a year.
Probably 4-6.
They've been working on optimizations, so more content will be added, but you will probably be seeing more bugfixes.
When did Mojang say this?
That's what I was getting at.
