I may not post alot but when i do its A BIG TOPIC.
But making bone meal 7 times less useful is ridiculous. Also I don't understand why people complain about it considering its optional, and if you don't like instant wheat, you just don't use it. Where as if this comes out official people who did like it the current way CAN'T ignore it...
But besides that I'm looking forward to the new combat mechanics. I can see fire aspect swords going down in value some though =P

Because limiting yourself takes the feel out of it.

"Don't like it don't use it", "it's optional", etc. The most overused arguments in this forum.
Just let Mojang add rocket launchers that shoot nukes. Oh, you don't like the idea? Don't like it don't use it!
Let them add magic swords that deal 10000000 damage, and are made of dirt. No problem it's optional!
Seriously, this argument is terribly wrong.
Also, I agree that 7 times is a little bit overkill. Perhaps 3 or 4 times would be a good amount of bone meal.
UGH! Why does everyone (well actually mostly MumblesMiner) always drag the bonemeal nerf ( Which Dinnerbone has said he is not done balancing yet, it is a snapshot after all) into EVERY STINKING THREAD!
On topic: This is probably my favorite update for a long time as well.

The difference between nukes/uberswords and instant wheat, is one can destroy multiple blocks / instant kill players, and one gives you 3 hunger.
Also I do not see how this was so horribly imbalanced. its FOOD. If you don't have it you can't do anything. This was just a way to make it forgiving for those who didn't treat getting food on the first day like a "science". This didn't give ANYBODY an advantage over anyone.
Your argument about this being like nukes and 100000 damage swords makes 1/10th the amount of sense as not using it if you don't want it does. The only way you could even CLAIM it was OP to the point of requiring a removal was in servers, but even then, why is this a problem for your neighbor to have something to eat without a ton of work? Its not like hes going to be able to raid you with an army of bread men or anything.
Seriously... ...comparing FOOD to nukes and magic swords...what you smoking bro?

i don't think he was comparing the two, rather stating how the argument "Don't like it don't use it" is a bad one

I love the little green particle effect the bone meal has now.
I think a good compromise would be if it grew things through one stage, but had an area of effect, much like when you use bone-meal on grass.
I mostly like the compromise because it would make the particle effect look pretty cool to see it over a larger area. This would also make bone-meal dispensers feasible for larger farms, encouraging automation using that mechanic.
I rather like the effect because it makes wheat- and thus farming and animal breedings- a bit more "end-game". This means you have to consider trade-offs early on, and say, save two of each animal for breeding in the future (or resort to travelling and dragging animals back where you want them, which is a pain in the butt.)
I think a good compromise would be if it grew things through one stage, but had an area of effect, much like when you use bone-meal on grass.
This is the best suggestion I have seen. I personally like that it only grows one stage at a time for an entirely selfish reason. I make texture packs and previewing all of the growth stages can be a pain.

You should start a thread... This feedback would get some attention. I hadn't even thought of that for a moment.

Punch down trees with fists, logic was never a member at this party to begin with.
Wow, I think that suggestion is excellent and by far the most attractive solution I've seen presented so far.

I tried it with terrible results. I gave my wife my glasses for a second, a creeper showed up and now my wife is pregnant.
Stupid 3D..
I like this compromise

Seems like bonemeal is brought into every thread in this sub-forum.
Loving the snapshots as well, though...
