As far as I am concerned the only thing that bone meal has going for it is it's ablility to instantly grow crops. Even with that ability I very rarely if ever us it now.
This change affectively reduces bone meals usefulness and therefore reduces it's value. I simply cannot see how that would encourage me to use an item that I don't use now, in fact it will only encourage me to discard it and save space in my inventory. The only thing it is useful for now is growing giant jungle trees and dyes.
As for making the game more challenging, that only applies if you already rely on bone meal. I would think that most people only use it as a convenience not as a necessity and it therefore will have little if any impact on game play.
At least we can agree that letting crops grow on their own is a okay! That's what I do too.
Yeah, and that is what pretty much everyone does already unless they are a] attempting to expedite the farming process to get more seeds, b] the player has a incredibly poor spawn location and cannot find any food on the surface, so a few Bones from toppling the toughest regular mob in the game allows him to feed himself until he finds Melon/Pumpkin seeds, c] on a custom map where the map maker intentionally attempts to starve the player, and d] on PvP servers where Bonemeal and Rotten Flesh will provide the only food a player gets until much later because of all the resources that have been stripped away.
In none of these situations is Bonemeal anything close to a problem.
I'm not a hardcore survival junkie;
Really? From your attitude and posts, you could have fooled anyone.
But I do think it should be a hard road to travel. All of the agressive mob updates, bonemeal nerfs, and anything else to make the game harder is very worth it to me.
I'll agree that the aggressive mob updates make the game harder, and are good ideas because I can easily run around naked with a Stone Sword at night, but a Bonemeal nerf does not make the game harder, especially for people who, like you, never use Bonemeal on crops in the first place.
I really do, genuinely, feel that until the player is much stronger that the player should be relegated to using foods that don't "fill you up" as much. Bread isn't the best food, but it is a pretty good one.
Bread is a mediocre food, and the player should not be relegated to horrible foods when not every player is capable of taking on swarms of undead, naked with a Stone Sword.
Not to mention when you have a lot of bonemeal then things like leather and other foods like beef become extremely easy to get
Not to mention when you have a lot of seeds and go mining to pass the time, then things like leather and other foods like beef become extremely easy to get.
You're not even trying now. You're rehashing the same argument like I've not countered it already.
I do see your points, I really do. I just don't agree that food and leather should be so easy to get, in the later parts of surviving and especially the beginning.
Okay. So, you would rather that every player have a horrible time starting out and not have fun because, guess what, not everyone enjoys the thrill of being forced to survive?
Seriously. Difficulty in surviving, in getting food, is not supposed to be vanilla Minecraft. That was literally the point in them making food so abundant even when they added the hunger meter.
If you really want to have a challenge in surviving, then stop playing pure vanilla Minecraft. There are maps and mods, things to change your gameplay up so that you can have a challenge without negatively affecting those who aren't good at Minecraft yet.
It's worth it to me to click extra times, to keep the game challenging
Will you stop? We've been over this, and having to click multiple times is not more challenging.
and fun even after I've played in a single world for a while as well as being difficult at the gate.
This is a lie. I know you have said you have never used Bonemeal on crops, and now you're making this stuff up. How the hell will a bonemeal nerf on crops affect you when you have greenhouses dedicated to growing crops (without Bonemeal) and, likely, have more food than Bonemeal as is?
Remember your first night in minecraft? I remember my first night because I managed to build a house of logs, with no door, and I left a space open so I could see when it was day. A skeleton killed me through the hole, and I didn't have a bed so I repsawned somewhere else. I managed to find my house, but while I was breaking the wall to get in I was blown up by a creeper. That was extremely fun to me, the thrill of being quick and smart with all of the first day decisions.
Sounds like your first night was terrible.
When they added hunger, I started a whole new world and found no new difficulties on the first night. I knew how to survive, and I knew I could grab a bonemeal and be set. All I had to do was draw some skeletons out into the open at day break on day two. No care or worries to the wind.
When they added hunger, I started a whole new world and found no new difficulties on the first night. I knew how to survive, and I new that animals where abundant in the world, so I killed some, and killed some more when I needed more food. All the while, my planted wheat was growing by itself and I could harvest it every now and again to enlarge my farm to have a fall back if I ever ran out of animals. No cares or worries. They were gone with the wind.
Now when I start a new world, I know I have to be careful to kill animals around me, but not all of them plus I don't have the bonemeal crutch. Instant difficulty raise. It's a beautiful thing.
I know how to survive as well, and you don't need Bonemeal ever to do so. It only gotten easier and easier to survive the first night without ever touching Bomemeal. I could go off and list a string of options which do not require much effort at all, but I think you know what I am talking about and, if you do, you can quite clearly see that Bonemeal did not need to be nerfed on crops because they are significantly easier than killing Skeletons in the first place.
And "Bonemeal crutch"? LOL. It's bullcrap that you feel Bonemeal needed to be nerfed with all of the other, more superior options available in Vanilla Minecraft.
So for people complaining bitterly that this is "OP" Tell me : What keeps you from just not using it, considering you don't use it anyway? Essentially you are saying "Neeeeh I don't like it!" Without even acknowledging the fact that you can just choose not to use it. In servers, this is not OP. Food is the most essential item in game, more than wood. Yet you seem to say that someone having food is OP. Why don't you just choose not to use it, instead of crapping on everyone's experience? Nobody is putting a gun to your head on this, but you guys ARE putting a gun to OUR heads. See how this is unfair?

I am so strongly against bonemeal being a one hit k.o. for wheat because it's too easy. If food is important, why should it be easy to get? If foil pokemon cards are so cool or valuable should they be in every single pack of cards; wouldn't that lessen their value and appeal? (This may be a bad analogy, I never played pokemon cards, but my brother did...)

You're comparing a staple, necessary, needed, absolutely necessary, die without item to "rare and valuable items."
And thats just the thing, food is about a 2 on the important scale, compared to diamonds which are 50. (Just random numbers but you get the point.)
They are necessary to live, just like air is for underwater swimming. Does this mean we need quick time events to hold our breath? no. Why? cause this would be a pain.
Also this only makes it "easier" if your getting the short end of the stick. If you have a full wheat farm and don't use it to begin with this has NO effect on you, since you don't use it in the first place.
HERES THE THING. Wheat is the BOTTOM of the food tree. it requires 3 of them (or 2 with coco) to get anything edible. Pumpkins for pumpkin pie (although this requires sugar and I THINK eggs) and melons are much better for this, and even trees are (apple hunting). I can see these other ones getting a nerf, but this is too much.
Is it BREEDING you guys are complaining about?...If so maybe make a new item for breeding, maybe a stack of 2 wheat or something?
Ether way it sounds like you guys don't use this in the first place, and it provides 0 unfair advantage over other players so this boils down to "I don't think this is cool and realistic as it could be". To everyone else this is making their game more difficult without their input, and to you (since some of you have ADMITTED to never using it) It has 0 effect.
Essentially all the arguments you guys state is you don't want your slightly less "hardcore" neighbors to not starve to death.
I'm just against the idea of the new bonemeal to begin with. It's complete and utter stupidity. Jeb is trying to add realism where it doesn't belong. If he's going to make the game "real" so to speak, he might as well take out all the hostile mobs, the enchanting, REDSTONE, diamond tools, diamond armour, the nether, the end, and everything else in the game, and leave us only with a big biome in which we cannot do anything without waiting for a couple of hours. Minecraft, in general, is not realistic. So why is jeb trying to make it so?

If you check out this thread you may find that Mojang had a different reason in mind instead of realism. http://www.minecraft...solution/Also that board has the ultimate solution imo.
I don't play SMP, so I don't have neighbors. You also keep assuming that people who want to be challenged only play on one world. I think an assumption with better logic would be that players who like the challenge of survival probably play new worlds more often than players with a different opinion on surviving. I tend to only play one world for a while because I have other real life crap going on. But I do love to start new worlds because of the challenge.
And here is a biology lesson: the bottom of the food chain is a very important part of the chain. Without the bottom the top fails. Wheat is at the bottom, with cookies, bread, renewable meats, and leather ascending the chain. If krill wasn't floating around the ocean, then whales wouldn't eat it then make HUGE craps that fertilize the under water plants. Then the herbivore fish would not have food AND there would be far less oxygen in the ocean. Then ocean life fails...
You don't play smp, so this only comes down to choice. You have admitted choosing NOT to use it as well. So your complaining about something that does not effect you.
Therefor you are complaining for the sake of complaining.
Also biology would also dictate that cows and pigs would also need to graze or die, wolves would need to eat or die, and skeletons couldn't move since they lack ligiments. None of these would be beneficial to game-play, and neither is this.
YOU HAVE SAID YOU DON'T USE IT. YOU HAVE SAID YOU DON'T SMP. YOU HAVE SAID YOU DON'T NEED IT. WHAT EXACTLY IS YOUR PROBLEM?
And here, let me provoke your mind : I think diamond armor is a bit overpowered. It makes dying something beyond unlikely to happen, and for single player survival makes things too easy. But you know what? I DON'T USE IT. I NEVER have / would of / will post this idea, or support it, because even though I think diamond armor is OP for single player, I don't think everyone should need to put up with my "questionable" idea, when I very much have a choice NOT to use it.
And you guys continue to ignore this fact, that you have the choice whether or not to use it, yet this removes the choice for everyone else.
- snipping is so you see that I quoted you, but I don't turn the page into a wall of text. -
You are the one complaining about the nerf, not me. I have yet to complain about anything here. I offer a counterpoint to your complaint. I've no need to complain because the nerf falls into my backyard, as opposed to the other side of the fence where your opinion lives. With the current change, I can feel challenged when I start new worlds, as before where I could just draw a skeleton into sunlight and have oodles of free wheat.
You also are the one who brought up the food chain and used it as a weak vehicle to drive your even weaker argument. The point of a food chain is to illustrate the nature of how one thing relies on another thing. You gave me a strong tool with which to hammer my point; things like enchanted armor can rely on wheat to happen, thus strengthening the need to make wheat not so readily available. I am not sure why you thought I meant there is a scientific root for which bonemeal should be nerfed, but I didn't.
If you got pulled over by a police officer for speeding, would you argue that you think the speed limit is only for those who feel the need to not speed? I dare you.
Even an open ended game like minecraft has rules to abide, and this new rule adds challenge. You said so yourself that it adds difficulty to starting players. We keep arguing, but you just keep regurgitating my opinion with the air of a holier-than-thou crusader for players starting a new world. I say let those players be challenged; let them appreciate more what they have when they begin to thrive.
About your diamond problem: consider my mind not provoked. I think it is wishy washy to not use diamonds because you think they're over powered, but you think bonemeal is mana from heaven.
You are the one complaining about the nerf, not me. I have yet to complain about anything here. Lies. you've been complaining this was OP. I offer a counterpoint to your complaint. With the current change, I can feel challenged when I start new worlds, as before where I could just draw a skeleton into sunlight and have oodles of free wheat. You and others have admitted to NEVER using bone meal in the first place. This is like somebody who has never snowboarded complaining about snowboard equipment. Also the nerf GREATLY effects new spawns (me, since I make then occasionally, along with many others). I'm repeating this like a broken record : If you don't like it, don't use it (which you have been doing anyway.)
You also are the one who brought up the food chain and used it as a weak vehicle to drive your even weaker argument. This is not weak. It does not influence you since as you have admitted, you do not use it to begin with, but it makes life harder on me and others. also the food chain still exists. new spawns constantly worry about their next meal, those established just take out stacks of meat. The point of a food chain is to illustrate the nature of how one thing relies on another thing. You gave me a strong tool with which to hammer my point; things like enchanted armor can rely on wheat to happen, thus strengthening the need to make wheat not so readily available. What are you smoking? Wheat =/= enchanting. I can't even get an enchantment table that way. wtf are you smoking, bro? Does wheat give xp? not that I know of. even if this was the case removing the xp would be a better idea. I am not sure why you thought I meant there is a scientific root for which bonemeal should be nerfed, but I didn't. I mean you want to treat FARMING like a science. Thats cool by itself, but don't crap on everyone else by insisting something you don't use needs to be nerfed.
If you got pulled over by a police officer for speeding, would you argue that you think the speed limit is only for those who feel the need to not speed? I dare you. Does not compute. You are implying bone meal is cheating, and it isn't. And you don't even play on multiplayer servers so there is 0% validity to this. You are complaining other peoples are doing stuff easier than your preferred method. You need help.
Even an open ended game like minecraft has rules to abide, and this new rule adds challenge.NEW rules also change the fomula AWAY of what people are used too. You said so yourself that it adds difficulty to starting players. This is not positive, or wanted. It only limits starting food options too less ideal methods, and increases the likelyhood of an unpreventable death by starving. and ideally difficulty should curve, so starting off is easy when your new, and when you CONTINUE it gets hard. We keep arguing, but you just keep regurgitating my opinion with the air of a holier-than-thou crusader for players starting a new world. I could very much say the same for you (You have yet to answer why you can't just ignore it, like you have been doing before this snapshot. Controlling much?) I say let those players be challenged; let them appreciate more what they have when they begin to thrive. Yep, controlling. This reminds me of when someone said people should starve if they aren't 100% efficient.
About your diamond problem: consider my mind not provoked. Big surprise. I think it is wishy washy to not use diamonds because you think they're over powered, but you think bonemeal is mana from heaven. So by your argument, you are wishy washy. Ok.
I'm starting to find this hilarious.
On another note, if you listen to anything in this post, look at the thread titled "bonemeal solution". I'm eager to see your "opinion" on this.
On another note, if you listen to anything in this post, look at the thread titled "bonemeal solution". I'm eager to see your "opinion" on this. ---- I want to see your post for that too cecil.
Also adding more clicks to things doesn't make it challenging it's an annoyance. There was nothing wrong with the previous bonemeal as it hasn't affected you and others who are on your side shouldn't be affected by it either if they don't use it. The "bonemeal solution" thread has the nerf applied to when dispensers distribute bonemeal not by hand. Also you have used borderline flaming posts( The way I see flaming is personal insults especially bringing RL in it ) to try to counter the annoyance just extra clicks.

Oh, no, don't send angry people at me!
I mean, I'd of course love any feedback on that thread, whether they agree with me or not. That's how you test the quality of an idea, after all.
But don't send people who are angry my way! That won't end in quality debate for anyone. :(((( <- All the frowns
Though I won't pretend I'm not pleased that the thread is up for consideration here.

Superpop is so underground, he lives with a Diglett!
I am eagerly awaiting whatever adjustment is made to the current adjustment as bonemeal. I have full confidence that Jeb and Dinny will be able to find a way to even everything out, since there isn't really a precedent for them wrecking things and then walking away. <3
There's no doubt that bonemeal is an awesome item, but I don't think it's so incredibly awesome that it lessens the enjoyment for folks that don't have or use it, and it is for that reason (among others) that its functionality should be retained.

There's "Survival Mode" and "Creative Mode". In Survival you have a hunger bar. In Creative you have no hunger bar. There's a big reason for this. It's called surviving. If you can just go and make instant food with bonemeal, you might as well have no hunger bar at all.
Make a wheat farm that's larger than 1 block so you can feed yourself.

----
I want to see your post for that too cecil.
