People need to stop whining. You all sound very ungrateful right now, as most games won't update at all after it is completed, and you don't see anyone complain. But on MC forums, we always find a way to complain about one thing or another. To people complaining about the lag, that is only because they just merged the SSP and SMP. Obviously this will get better, because they really just left SMP to fend for itself for a very long time. Just give it time, and in the meantime stop whining on an internet forum and get some outside time into your life...
*sigh* You obviously haven't thought much about your post before you clicked the post button.
First off, 1.3 is not fine for everyone, many people are having issues with latency and FPS drops and poor FPS in general. This is NOT, I repeat NOT the fault of hardware, connections or anything like that, the problem is solely in Minecraft. Minecraft uses a lot of resources which decreases the FPS a lot and the new SSP-SMP merge made single player use an internal server to function on which introduced the latency problems from SMP. I agree plenty of these threads are garbage but some do have an ounce of truth thus they deserve to be posted. Besides, the whole point of a forum is to share your opinion. Sure, some people are idiots and their opinions make you want to jump of a bridge onto concrete, but they're still entitled to their opinion and it's highly rude to tell them to stfu.
Secondly, yes three months went into this update but that doesn't mean it was enough and that they don't deserve constructive criticism. If you read the forums a bit, you'll see plenty of issues introduced with this update. For that Mojang does indeed deserve constructive criticism (not hate of course, if you can differ the two). And don't get me started on the last paragraph of your post, that was unecessary and simply idiotic.
tl;dr: Put more thoughts in your posts before you click the Post button. Also inform yourself better before saying incorrect information.
Have a nice day, Mihajlo.
Don't waste your time on the immature. Basic psychology, they look for what appears to be the winning side and jump on the bandwagon copy/pasting quotes and bumping bad posts without bothering to investigate for themselves. It's best to ignore them.

An intelligent soul, could it be? All jokes aside, sure it's best to ignore them, but someone has to shine some light through them sooner or later, right?
I have 1.2.5 and 1.3 havent played 1.3 yet as ive been waiting to se what the general thoughts were on it. But I would say give it a chance. Rome was not built in a day and neither was minecraft, although from the amount of bugs im hearing about it sounds like it was.
While I have noticed a slight increase in annoying bugs (particularly relating to mob behavior and of course the infamous lighting bugs), and I notice chunks loading slower like they did in SMP before, I have experienced no significant decrease in performance (I don't know what kind of FPS I got with 1.2.5 because I never bothered to look, but I just booted it up and measured 60-70FPS on average outside in the rain). I have a decent computer (8gigs RAM, NVIDIA GTX 460 video card) so I don't doubt it may run slower on older computers, but I can't explain why even some good computers are running Minecraft so poorly now. Fact is, some people are experiencing problems, but that doesn't mean everybody is. I personally love this update, I think the new features are the best we've gotten since Beta 1.8 (yes, even better than the official release), and the slight increase in annoying but not game-breaking bugs doesn't bother me. I definitely am sorry for all of those who have experienced major problems. It sucks that they can't play it. But I certainly wouldn't call this update "broken". Also, I do think that some people should invest in updating their computers. The fact that you can actually play a fun modern game with such old machines is impressive. 90% of all modern games couldn't run on some of your guys' computers, and if upgrade your computer now or soon it will serve you well for 5+ years, especially if you don't routinely buy new games or use it to run memory-intensive software. Trust me, it's an upgrade worth investing in. And yes, I do realize it's not realistic for some people.
Also like it or not, the SSP/SMP merge has made things significantly easier to code and update for Mojang, and while maybe they could've done more to fix bugs and improve performance before the update, this merge should make it easier to do so in the future. I think given some more time, Minecraft could ultimately end up being a fairly stable game. The potential is definitely there. Minecraft will never be perfectly stable, especially considering that it runs on Java, but they're making progress towards that goal. Maybe having an update that caused so many problems for so many people will even push them to discover and fix the roots of some of the stability issues faster!
For me is broken. Because I have a bug that closes Minecraft randomly (not a regular Minecraft crash, the window closes and nothing), and I spect lags of 5 segs every 1 min.
Anyway, chunk loading, world generating and world loading is now faster.
"Other games don't update at all"
Well yeah 1.3 was a content upgrade but a big big game stability downgrade. Do you prefer new content you can't enjoy because the game bugs and lags or would you prefer a game which runs smoothly?
"To people complaining about the lag, that is only because they just merged the SSP and SMP.
Obviously this will get better..."
Wow of course it is beacuse they just merged the two modes. I'm sure that it was tough for u to figure out...
And how can you be so sure that this will get better? Since Minecraft Beta not much has changed regarding SMP.
Normally you would stabilize SMP and then you could think about merging it with SSP. Why the other way round?
Several games release almost bug-free, and when they update, they only fix bugs
I really hope that they fix the bugs that we now have. But the main problem is that Mojang have a great history to fix the bugs or: never, or after several time of they appear.
Again. I really like the new things (new books, new apples, tripwire, and more) but the merge is annoying me, because is hard to play. Even The Yogbox pack with 1.2.3 is FASTER than 1.3.1.
Anyway, for all of those (personally exasperating) people who say "you don't propose any solution" (this is a regular discussion, not a bug fix discuss). You can use SSP for 1.3.1by Exalm if you have problems. Is some unstable, and the author incentives to find bugs
First thing i have to say is this is a pointless thread but since i cant just post that ill add something else: Minecraft 1.3.1 sucks for you and some other people, all this BS is not neede don the forums.

DOWNGRADE? Really? THAT IS THE DOWNGRADE? THEY ADDED HOW MANY THINGS? And you say it's a downgrade. Are you an idiot? THEY ADDED THAT.
Think before you speak in reality.
Oh, and some bonus TOP-SECRET INFO: YOU CAN FIX BUGS!
You forgot the other side of the equation. They added a few minor things to the game. Now subtract the crap. Remember, this is stuff that used to work before the update. When you take away features from a game that I like, that's a downgrade.
mobs don't work.
chunk errors in loading terrain.
spawners are derpy.
blocks lag when you try to mine them.
Furthermore, these problems manifest constantly. The new features don't compare because they're corner cases. How often do you encounter emeralds? If I really hated emeralds, I could play the game without ever having to deal with them. I can't avoid chunk errors. I cannot avoid the new broken mob AI.
These are things that used to work. Mojang added bugs that weren't there before. Mojang obviously knows how to make a game that doesn't work like this. It was called Minecraft.

I think you are going to love my Survival Let's Play series on YouTube! It's called Spaceboot1's Garden. I make pretty things.
honestly i don't love or hate this update i'm neutral on it. as for everyone posting hate and saying how they should have waited to update, think of it like this how much of the community was pushing for a major update? and practically begging for a release sooner? also remember saying you hate it and complaining about how bad it is won't get far. you'll get alot of hate for it. the main thing that annoys me is i've seen alot of threads for it and against it. we don't need a million and one threads for it...... also every update this big is bound to have alot of issues but now that mojang can track computers and see how it runs on slower computers bug fixes will affect a wider range from this point on.
1.2.5 I had 20-30 frames, 1.3.1 I get 60 - 100 frames.. I guess I am special!
The internal server works amazingly better than just loading up my single player world via client. + LAN PARTIES!!!!
As for the multiplayer worlds I log on to, they are all bukkit servers, they lag terribly, but that's only because 1.3.1 bukkit is only in dev build stage.
Honestly though, if you are so easily angered by bugs, learn Java and fix them yourself, I am pretty sure Mojang wouldn't hate you if you created your own bug fix patches and put them up for download. I guess you can't really listen to me about Java, that's not the language I code in.

Might be just me but the only issue I've hit is terrain sometimes not appearing until I get near it, which was nothing Optifine couldn't handle.
He said, btw I used to play with about 15 fps in the lowest configs, and now I can play on fancy with about 30 fps
