The only 1.3 update I hate is the server part. There is a reason why singleplayer has more benefits then multiplayer. Multiplayer is laggy but you get to have fun with your friends on the bright side.
Singleplayer - You can't play with your friends and have as much fun but at least you get to experience a no mob or anything lag
As long as the lag gets fixed. You will realise this is one of the best updates in minecraft.
Mmm... Multiplayer get more benefits with this update. Several bugs were fixed. But singleplayer got the bugs from SMP.
I like the new things. In fact. I love Minecraft now, except for two things: the generator and this new merge. Even the generator is some better with Large Biomes... but with the merge :/
I personally think this is one of the best improvements Minecraft has had. The new items and such are useful and interesting, I haven't really had issues with lag, and I think the idea of merging single player and multiplayer will have great benefits towards the game's development as things move forward. So, I think I'll stick with 1.3.1 thank you very much.
Again, I like the new things but the merge :/
Is true that merging will make new features faster, isn't really the best solution.

PS. No, described machine is - sadly - not mine personal...

Bahahahah. My crappy laptop that's 4+ years old runs the game faster, and the poor thing is a dual-core with integrated graphics.
I think this is the best minecraft update ever... and not for the improvements, but for the game's future.
Think about this: before this change, for every new functionaly they wanted to add, they had to do it in the two implementations, multiplayer and singleplayer, which is duplicated work and, therefore, a major waste of time, also this generates different bugs in both implementations which create a big (too big) stability gap between them (a collateral effect of maintaining two versions of the same software).
Merging both versions is the obvious solution, especially in a language like Java, designed with multithreading in mind from the fist day, and in a time where most of the computers have multicore processors.
Of course this kind of big changes in the base code always leads to tons of new bugs to fix, but most of them can be quickly and easily fixed when the software it's tested enough.
Take in account that a Java software run in a great variety of systems with different hardware, different software versions, different configurations, and even different Java Virtual Machines (OpenJDK or Oracle, 32-bits Java in 64-bits OS, etc) so it's impossible to find all the possibly bugs that can appear from such a change for a limited betatesting team; the only solution (for Mojang in this case) is being brave, release the new version, expect the worst and prepare as soon as possible a bugfix update with the collected information from the users.
From now, when they fix the major and medium bugs (which can be expected in two updates at most) they can speed up development, work on better performance, fix minor bugs and graphical glitchs and all of us will have a much better game in both game modes.
BTW, I always thought that minecraft had an horrible codebase and Mojang should get rid of it and rewrite the necessary parts.
Mmm. I'm rightalright agree is some aspects. But the problem is that they release the game. I mean. The game is a Release, not a Beta, not a Alpha, no more. So, the releases have to be with almost all the bugs fixed, even more with this large change on the game. I don't care to wait more, if they release a bug fixed version :/
Exactly. MC update 1.3.1 is all "Bahahahah" and "Bahahahah" only.
Unfortunately, it's not the people which PAID for the game are laughing. And personaly, I think that good update from decent company should include a little more that just "Bahahahah".
For guys that say "My performance actually increased", Your 1.2.5 Minecraft might be MODDED thats why it is laggy in last update.

I quite agree about the trading (Due it is unbalanced like 10 emeralds for a diamond legging to 26 emeralds for a piece of coal wtf?)

I do agree some redstone circuits is pretty much fu*ked up right now.
I call for a stalemate at the FPS lag and boost.

Pretty rare post...
But, with the trading, I really don't care. But I still unknowing tha value of a single Emerald.
Other things except merge are ok
I agree that this should've happened before but better late than never, we don't know why they decide to do this now but I'm sure that, to do it at this point, it shoud have reached the point of inevitable.
Unfortunately, in the software development, this kind of design mistakes are very costly, but not fix and live with it is much worse in the long run.
Anyway we will see how they handle the situation, I hope that they release a bugfix patch in a week and expect it in no more than two weeks.
But, with the trading, I really don't care. But I still unknowing tha value of a single Emerald.
Other things except merge are ok
Agree.
Isn't really clear.
For me the value of emerald is a piece of redstone since it is not that rare and quite common to find.
And Mojang should have fixed the lag and glitch in SMP before merging it. I'm quite intelligent at computers and merging. Right now, I'm building my highway for my server (not a public one) and can't build it properly because of the internal server error bug. (For those who are wondering why I am building a highway: HEIL HIGHWAY!)
Ah, yes. Almost forgot about. "issues or viruses" argument.
Well, mentioned PC is the machine that is used to process HUGE amount of 3D HR multi-channel seismic and other geophysical data in real-time. And it works juuust fine. Smooth sailing. No problems at all. To make the things even funnier, quite substantial number of various pieces of software used in this process (which in terms of complexity of things that have to be done are lightyears ahead of MC) are writen in Java (OpendTect, SeaSeis, various extensions for Fledermaus / DMagic and Oasis Montaj) - and I don't even remember when last time I've seen "hs_errpidXXX.log" produced by one of them.
So "issues or viruses". I see. Of course.
However, their must be very, very specific and specialised issues or viruses that activate solely for Minecraft and goes completely idle when something else is operational.
Oh, did I mention that about half of the dosen of aforementioned Java apps works according to the same logic and routine that Minecraft is working now - creating and using local servers when launched? It's a real miracle, I suppose, that none of this "issues" or "viruses" ever occured during this time. Must be darn good pieces of malicious software. Clever and a little spooky, even.
Is it modded? If not: If you are running on Windows 7: Control Panel->Programs->Java->Click Java button next to general->Click View-> Type in to the empty box below Runtime Parameters : -Xmx1024m
Run minecraft then lag should be reduced.
Minecraft and Games is not affected by virus. Java is.
Okay so i'm sure everyone reading this probably knows of all the issues 1.3.1 has come with, and if you enjoy single player like I do, drop your game back to the last playable update, 1.2.5, because as for now its the only way you'll enjoy your Minecraft experience.
It would be nice to see Mojang actually step up and fix the issues multiplayer has, because now, 1.3.1 single player has the same exact issues as multiplayer, and i'm not one who cares about mods or plugins, and I really don't care for multiplayer either.
For some desert and jungle temples, and tripwire hooks, yea, 1.3.1 is definetly not worth it one bit, unless you enjoy the issues that multiplayer has always had.
For me the biggest problem is the short view distance. I used to see jungle trees and hills in the background now it's all fog and too boring to play, major snorefest. The long view distance is what made Minecraft unique.
Another problem is water can't update fast enough to move mobs effectively.
I love the " my frame rate is faster" comments. Hello? it's rendering a lot less grafix and updating half as much. Without the SMP garbage max fps would melt your computer. I swear 90% of the comments here are made by mods under alt names.
