My game was a tad smoother when I changed to the snapshot. The only thing that really lagged my game was my farm animals. Other than that it feels the same. They still need to fix lighting glitches and other things.
There are a few bugs that can't be fixed(Unless a lot of things are re-done in the code), but the major game breaking bugs will be fixed. It is actually pretty stable. They just need to fix the rest of the major bugs, and actually finish it.
For some reason, my FPS is a lot higher in the new snapshot. I went form 30-50 to 75-120...
I think the merging is a better idea than keeping them separate. As is right now, the game is not very user friendly to set up your own server, and the way the game operates on the Pocket and Xbox editions is what I would like if I want to host a little server of my own. Now, I just want to make sure dedicated servers can still be used, but I think this all will work out to make everything much easier for everyone in the long run, they just need to perfect it a bit in the meantime.
I understand the merger and get why they want to do it, but I don't reallllly expect a flawless merge so I think 1.3 is going to be a little rough which is going to "ruin" the game for a lot of people who up till now have been mainly ssp folks. But I'm not going to have a full on panic attack... In the end they want to make SMP and SSP more fun, so they will work towards it.
I always play multiplayer even when I'm playing alone. My friends and I all have servers running 24x7 so we stop by each others servers and build, fool around and grief each other (when we know for sure there is a solid back-up). I really don't know how this will effect our dedicated servers. Sometimes I login to my server from multiple locations throughout the day to build or check out what my friends have been up to.
We also always play in creative mode and only switch to survivial to put on armor (i.e. the nano suit from one of the mods which lets you run really fast.)
My friends and I are all feeling iffy about the new version, but as long as we can still run a dedicated server and we can log in from different computers, I'll be happy. I'm planning on running the snapshot soon, so I'll see what I think of it before long.
That's impossible. Every real game has glitches no matter what.
You can't deny that running off of a server causes a RIDICULOUS amount of bugs. As it stands single player isn't even playable (obviously), but even if the major issues are sorted out we would still have to deal all of the synchronization issues.
The Server-to-Client architecture needs to be completely reworked and optimized.
In case anyone disagrees with me, please ride in a boat in singleplayer.
Whether or not these issues will be fixed remains to be seen, as we have heard nothing.

I completely agree, everyone seems to assume it will be fixed by the next snapshot, Mojang has had years to fix these multiplayer glitches, yet people expect them to fix it in 2 weeks?

Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Couldn't you just write a list of bulleted text instructions instead of making me watch another horribly narrated youtube video?

The only problem I really had were mobs riding in front of their minecarts.
As long as the bugs are taken out, and either
1) A dedicated server version is made, or
2) Multiple levels of security (i.e. singleplayer only, whitelist, anyone can join, etc.) for the merged form,
I'm good with it.
THIS is just annoying. Why do you NOT want the merge? Do you have any idea how many people want to play Minecraft with friends on PC, but don't know how to make a server, or CAN'T make one? You know what happens next? They look for a server, visit it, get griefed, they cry, and complain about how hard it is to make a server and blame it on Notch and Jeb_. They give them it, they complain, because of one tiny lag difference or one tiny poof in the pause thing.
Now, we all know that in Pocket Edition and Xbox 360 Edition we can join each other's worlds whenever. No port forwarding or junk like that required to make one either. It's convenient, right? Exactly. No complaints! (Except for the wifi thing on P.E. but they're working on it) It's easy, it's better, and Jeb_ is working his BUTT off trying to make the community happy. All these people are nagging about how the "mod API is too slow" or "emerald ore is useless" or "where's my allocator or whatever". When he gives them it, they complain.
STOP COMPLAINING and enjoy the game already! I admit I complain, but I don't lead an angry mob to Jeb_'s house or anything.
The point is, Mojang is trying to make the game more enjoyable. More fun. They can barely concentrate with you guys being the Navi's (Zelda) of today, and that's probably why they haven't done or fixed ___________ yet.

I DO!
(ssp= survival single player and no bugs or glitches and no lag.)
(smp= survival multi player bugs glitches and sometimes lag.)
Wait until its done, they are working on it.

You must be kidding.

EDIT: stupid automatic emoticon removal.
Praise be to Spode.
Now the coding for both of these is X.
Remember kids, when the mod crashes delete system32!
