Are you still, in all seriousness, suggesting that farming cows is "difficult", as opposed to a simple "time sink"?
What in minecraft gets the label "difficult" or "time sink?" Exactly what line did leather farming cross to become a "time sink", and not any other type of farming?

Are you perhaps taking my post in the context of someone else's? I have no memory of suggesting it's the only time sink in the game; in fact Minecraft is perhaps the very definition of a time sink!
My point was that there's little to no difficulty involved, only time - very little skill is required on behalf of the user to breed cows. That was in response to RSV's belief that all this is about "difficulty".
Given this, you can see that each user's opinion will vary according to how much leather they want and how long they can stand clicking on cows. Cost in time versus reward in fun. At present, I doubt you'll find very many people who consider mass production of anything involving leather to be worthwhile.

You're just jealous 'cause the voices only talk to me
It's I just can't believe people find it hard/time consuming to get a good/huge
amount of leather. You need six wheat and six cows (unless you feel like running out of cows) at least for maximum time efficiency, considering an average drop rate of around 1 per cow, which is still twenty minutes, to make a single bookshelf.
1. You don't need very much for cow farm, just need a couple of fences. A couple? Alright, let's see you try to fit two dozen cows in a "couple of fences".
2. Make a big enough wheat area (and it's not really hard to do so.) and you will get enough wheat for the cows. And as a bonus, bread.
No you don't need to be overkill about the size of your wheat farm for this. Time. It just keeps adding up.
3. Just drag two cows, the rest is exponential. It's more difficult than you might think. If takes too long, night time. If you run into elevation, frustration. If there aren't any cows near your house... well... you are sort of screwed.
4. Breed cows then return doing anything you want, and for "anoyingness" this is in the realm of opinions. Cows being annoying is not an opinion. It is a fact.
5. I just don't just sit there waiting for the cows to grow, I just return to building mining. Have fun waiting for cows to grow when the chunk isn't loaded.

It's hard criticizing ideas when one is tired, so you'd better appreciate it when I criticize yours.
I say allow more automation of cow farms. Something like having them reproduce if you throw wheat on the ground in front of them and for that to only attract adult cows.
Hopefully then, with a little ingenuity we could set up an automatic dispenser to cause cow breeding to take place without user intervention and at the flick of a switch it could lead the mature cows off to an automatic slaughtering machine. You would have to build it of course but that is a lot more fun than spending ages manually feeding wheat to cows. And you'd need to wait for it to breed enough cows but you can do other stuff in the meantime without having to check back every ten minutes so see if your cows can be bred again which is really tedious.
this is exactly the way it works for better than wolves, with improved ai so they always try to pair up. shoulda been done like this from the start imo, here you can build some sort of trough, wire up a dispenser, or just stand in/over the pen and drop in the wheat, whatever. makes so much more sense than spamming them one at a time while they mindlessly stampede you.
My problem is that most of these people are lazy, and they have very, very weak arguments for changing the recipe back.
Also don't tell me what to do.

You know I'm pretty sure this was on page two before you decided to bump it again, so don't say you want this thread to die because you're putting quite the effort to keep it alive.

Actually, the whole recipe change thing was dropped about 20+ pages ago and the rest is debating ways to make leather slightly less painful to balance all its uses.
But that is besides the point. The point is that we should all stop posting in this thread because discussion of the OP or related topics isn't really happening and it is ridiculous that the thread had been bumped up again for little to no good reason.
Actually having to earn your way to the levels would already do that.
You can't realistically say that making it easier to get the materials to make an enchantment room won't make the game easier. Xp and enchanting has already been nerfed a lot. 1/2 the amount of bookeshelves are now required. You get Xp from everything you do. The Xp you received from each action has been increased. The Xp system is mostly flat-line now, instead of being only exponential and Xp maxes out at lvl 30.
Enchanting adds a new teir to your weapons/armour/tools. it shouldn't be easy to get.

Or, why isn't everything consider a "time sink" in MC. What about mining? Everyone branch mines. What about woodcutting? Gathering 100's of the same materials for your house? Making the same tools over and over after they wear out?
Hey how about we all just start using creative so we have no more "time sinks." Everything will be instant gratification.

I can if it's coupled with an increase in actual enchanting difficulty. The balance of other stuff shouldn't have to suffer for the balance of enchanting (where the bookshelves are still a laughable initial cost for the future returns.)

Except that isn't what people here are suggesting...
Anyway, I made my point and I'm quite tired of attempting to have a logical debate against all of these never-ending, weak, half-assed arguments. From what I can see is that the vast majority of the community is either in support of the change, or doesn't care and wants this annoying thread to die.
So, I'm going to stop commenting and give them their wish.

I just want to say, before we let this thread die, is that reverting the change hasn't been the actual topic for a while. It was all about how much leather should drop to balance it for all uses. You're arguments at times were as equally weak and half-assed with both sides of that not being swayed.
Anyways, this thread should have died a weak ago if it weren't for people bumping it when nobody has posted in days. Well, good riddance. I'd say trying to have a debate was fun but the non-circumspect arguments weren't.
For gods sake, quit moaning. If you want a cow to drop leather every kill and a pig to give you enough meat to last a month the make your own bloody game. Personally i like to work at a game and not have it all given to me on a plate (pardon the pun). Many aspects of this game are already too easy and welcome a tougher challenge.
I have 2 double chests of leather and cant use it fast enough.
Two large chests of leather? That's 6912 leather. That's four large chests worth of wheat considering average drop rate, which is outlandish in of itself. I'm seriously starting to doubt the validity of your claims.

Mostly moved on. May check back a few times a year.

Like a normal minecrafter who isn't some kind of cubical hippy.
I am going to go set a cow on fire.
