Wow, this is the most captain obvious thread I've seen here in ages.
Seriously.. why does such obvious crap even need to be posted?
Just because it's being worked on doesn't mean it's coming immediately?
Wow, really? NO ****.
They are working on it? It could be out in a week? Or maybe a month? Or longer?
Wow, really? NO ****.
Unbelievable.
Woah, woah, dude, I think you this close to a homicidal rampage. I thank the OP for creating this thread, because in case you haven't noticed, the recet update section is being flooded with "WHERES MY THIS?!?!"'s and "WHERES MY THAT?!?!"'s.
Serioulsey dude, calm down. Im kinda scared.
How often do they break when an update is released?
How often are there incompatibilities due to there not being concrete platform for all modders to build off of (better than wolves vs forge, for example)?
So rather than fix something that would have made the majority of it's customers happy (yeah, us mod users are the majority. Deal with it), they add things like wells with no use, a whole new biome complete with a useless creature and a host of shitty new blocks.
If they just make the API, the effing modders would do all this crap FOR THEM!

Mods are MODIFICATIONS and are not a part of the actual game. Mojang had not promised mod API until recently (recently being that last few months, quite a bit shorter than mods have been around).
And what if they don't want the modders to do that for them? What if someone made a mod that was and idea thought up by Mojang, but it wasn't implemented properly? There was a baby animals mod, but Mojang wanted them to have big heads instead of completely different textures. There was a pistons mod, but Mojang gave them a more defined texture and gave two options for the pistons instead of one.
It's your choice to use mods. Mojang wanted to work on what was going to be in the ACTUAL game.
One more thing. The things you said about jungles and cats and decorative blocks and etc. being useless... That's your opinion. Some people like roleplaying. They want a cat as their pet. Some people like building. They like having new blocks to build with.
And desert wells... Are being worked on.
Edit: Basically, what I'm saying is, Mojang is not in charge of mods and what work and content goes into them. They're more worried about what THEY put into the game. They're just making it easier for people who want to use mods.
Edit2: Please don't think I'm one of those avid Mojang supporters who will protect them no matter what. I will admit, they have made some ridiculous choices (not letting Silk Touch pick up ice, the villager texture (well I think it's pretty weird anyways :/), and the boss battle was a bit rushed...). I just feel that they don't need to be pressured.
A perfect example of this is the "Legend of Hobo" episode 6. People were begging for the episode to come out, but Bashcraft didn't have a sound designer. To put the complainers in their place, the entire episode had sounds made by Bashur himself.
Mind, it was pretty funny, but without the professional sound, it didn't seem the same. This is what happened with the dragon battle.
Now, Notch wasn't being pushed around when he was making the fight, but he was rushing through it. No dragon noises, the dragon doesn't do any damage when it hits you, and you get FAR too much experience when you kill it. Seriously, 100 levels? For that easy dough kneeding?

That's all well and good, assuming this was still a beta and not a full release. But I'll let that poor horse lie.
A modding API, stable SMP and game balance should have been priority #1 before launch, not riding the pine months after launch so that players can have a kitty.

Aaah, you've got me there. I totally agree. The whole armor and blocking thing was really OP. I believe I stood next to a creeper and let it blow up. I had full iron armor on, and I only took 2 hearts, or something ridiculous like that. If I had blocked, I would have only taken a heart of damage.
I'm glad they fixed THAT part anyway.
Edit: But people would complain about lack of content anyways. That's how the Minecraft forums are. Most of them want more content or want things removed just because of themselves. You can't please everybody, I suppose.
I don't think so. Baseless fanbase conjecture, more likely.
Don't forget how long the Nether was just a useless place except for Glowstone for many months. But it did get updated with Nether Fortresses, Magma Cubes, that nether mushroom potion stuff, etc.
A mod API has been promised repeatedly. I seem to recall Mojang saying that 1.2 wouldn't have a lot of new content because most of the effort would go to working on modding API. Well, it didn't.
But also don't forget that the Bukkit team is part of Mojang, we we have them to thank for 1.2.4 bugfixes. With Jeb working on new features and the Bukkit guys working on bug fixing/API, it seems we'll be getting the best of both worlds.
"WAAAAH WHERES THE MOD API?"
"RED DRAGON IS NO IN GAME WTH NOTCH"
"OSHUNS BORING ADD MONKEYS"
Mojang is WORKING on all of this stuff. They are not giving up on this stuff, as far as I know. Just be patient. You never know, mod API could come out next week.
It's as simple as that.
As far as you know? Oh well I guess we don't have to worry, guys, algebraicAT333, our resident Mojang expert, who lives with them and documents their progress thinks that red dragons are being worked on.

Who are you exactly to say that they are not being worked on?
Sorry that was rude.
They have tons of different things that everyone wants them to work on all at one time.... the choose to work on everything at one time getting little by little done.
Correct me if I am wrong but most of the people that complain about things not being done quickly enough tend to have no idea how to program and what it takes. Coding a program is very difficult to do you can add one feature test the hell out of said feature put it into a multiplayer format and have it break or break something else. Granted java is not the most sophisticated programming language I would love to see people take the time to learn to program something from the ground up... and learn how much of a pain it can really be.

If they just make the API, the effing modders would do all this crap FOR THEM!
Once the API comes out, there is going to be screaming and bitching about features it is missing. It doesn't even matter how hard Mojang tries to be nice and include nearly everything that all modders are doing at the moment, there will be somebody who doesn't like it and some "community" of players who feel left out.
Don't expect the API to be a magic bullet.
On the positive side, do expect that you will see a whole lot more people getting into the modding game where the bar will be lowered in terms of how hard it will be to get started in modding Minecraft. If that implies we will be seeing people adding crafting recipes which make a stack of 64 diamonds out of dirt and cobblestone on a crafting table, I think that will be far more common. Those kind of mods will become very common.
All I expect out of it is a stable, update to update platform so when Jeb tosses out yet another update, I don't have to wait 3-4 weeks for my mods to update.

Yes and you don't know, so as far as you know (not far at all), they actually aren't working on half the crap they "promised" either, and let's be honest with ourselves here, they aren't. Shut up.
The reality is that Mojang (Jeb and the impotent AI guy they hired) are working on kitties, minor tweaks to the interface, and introducing bugs into the game, not adding anything Notch made an offhanded comment about a year and a half ago. Perhaps the one thing they are adding that Notch was actually serious about is the API.

Mentioning Notch just made your comment worthless. He is only approving what goes into the game. He is not in charge of WHAT the content is, Jeb, Jon, and the rest of Mojang is.
And no need to get rude, saying "shut up" and all.

I simply hope they add some of these things, promised or not, there's so many cool features they could add. After the API they will probably pump out tons of content.

Don't be dramatic. It takes 3-4 days at the very most for mods to update. Hell, mods like TMI update <6 hours after the release.

Waahh too many people complain about failure to deliver!!!!
After all, not delivering almost a year after it was promised... is not a sign of incompetence [/EndSarcasm]
The same applies when new releases introduce more and worse bugs than the bugs that get fixed.
