Isn't this irrelevant seeing as they are based in Sweden? (Different copyright laws)
No, most developed countries have trade agreements with each other that permit this sort of thing. I remember when Sega had to use a different logo for the European version of the Dreamcast, because some company there already had a similar design, and when Nintendo brought Pocket Monsters to the US they had to change the name to Pokemon because someone already had the name.
I doubt Mojang can be held responsible for what its fans do though, but the fans themselves could be. (Not that that they will be, companies can decide if its worth the effort or not to pursue further legal action.)

It's really not like that will actually happen. The name 'Putt-Putt' is so widely used it would be ridiculous to sue everyone that has ever used that term.

I love how at the end of the letter it says they also sent it to Don Mattrick. You know, the guy that almost singlehandedly destroyed the future of the Xbox One?
At first, thought they were talking about the video game character, Putt Putt. They should probably change the name of there company to "Putt Putt MineCraft Noob Center".
I really freaking hate copyright and trademark infringement!
Seriously, the worst part is... Putt Putt is killing Mojang then trying to taken down in every single freaking name of videos or results, but instead... just use the name of 'Golf' that cannot be affected an infringing!
let me get this straight...Some one made a minecraft minigame and called it putt-putt then made the name putt putt a trade mark? then somthing about mojang using putt-putt some were? i'm really confused please someone clarify lol

Long story short: the term "putt-putt" is a trademarked term, and somebody (WHO IS COMPLETELY UNAFFILIATED WITH MOJANG) made a map called "putt-putt craft". As a result, Mojang received a "cease-and-desist" letter about it.. and the mapmaker didn't.
Corporate morons.... what I don't understand is this; copyright infringement is a serious thing to accuse someone of, so why wouldn't these idiots research their case first? Clearly just in it for the money/publicity/Notch's autograph....
Or they actually are that oblivious.

These are community maps DERP
So if we even make a picture, and name it Putt Putt, does that mean we will be sued?
