The idea of Redstonepower getting PSlit up to all line would be.. cool...
and bothersome as power 15 wouldn't all that much anymore.
For my House with Swimmingpool that'd mean i would have to put a reapeater every 6-8 Blocks instead of 16 >.<
finaly i hope there are features besides differnt light levels for this block i am hopeing for other stuff like it emits redstone power unless it is in a certain light level and the normal planed way
Definitely looking forward to this. That new repeater type also looks good, it looks useful for mapmakers, just like the daylight sensor. It would make it way easier to make multiple switches for one door.
I just had an idea, it would be cool to have it so that at night, redstone lamps turn on!
You can test the stuff already (13w01a is out)
And that idea is very easy. Just a daylight detector and a NOT gate(redstone torch)
EDIT: This is my "Mathematical Dessert" post
Exactly my point when I said that.
And is it just me, or did the Minecraft forums stop posting news of new snapshots? Because, you know, I would like to know about it on here, as I don't directly go to Mojang.com as much as I do this site...
i've recently checked minecraft wiki, and according to it the light sensor is definetly being implemented in the next update. so i guess im kinda looking forward to it. and also accordiing to the wiki, they're probably adding the nether ore. if you want to know more, just go to minecraftwiki.net and check it out yourself.

/\ A bit dead right now, support would be greatly appreciated /\
Also the link is broken, click the one below. I will fix this soon.
can confirm after testing, the light sensor responds only to daylight and varies in output by time of day.
correction, it will respond to other lights but cannot power itself and will allways respond to the brightest light source
Actually, you were right with the first statement:
Which is good, because like I said before, if it detected both, light would screw it up at times, like if you wanted a door to open during the day, it would always be open if you had a torch near it.
Hopefully they add a separate block light sensor later on (it would detect non sky-light).

The hopper is a pretty cool idea, however I hope they work on it more.
For instance, It can be connected to and from a furnace, however it only recognizes the top slot, and if you have a hopper below it, it will take it from the top slot. (EDIT: actually, it sends things there first, then moves on to the others when that is full, but a hopper below will remove anything)
If they added some logic to it, it could be amazing;
1. A hopper above the furnace will put a smelt-able material in the top slot (smelting) if it is free.
2. A hopper on any of the sides will put a burnable material in the bottom slot (fuel) if it is free.
3. A hopper below the furnace will accept any smelted materials, an pass them to its output if one is available.
If they did that, you could place ores/wood in one chest, and coal/planks in another, and it would transfer them to a furnace to smelt.
However, it seems like they will be made of iron, and there is not yet a way to make items travel upwards....
you can attach a chain hoppers (and chests or any type of inventory if you like) to each other to move items, but hopefully they add pipes, conveyor belts, or something instead.
EDIT: Also, if the redstone block is like a redstone torch in block form, why doesn't it provide any light like a redstone torch does? :/

Is this light sensor analog (output decreases strength the less light there is)? It had better be analog. It bugs me that while redstone is almost perfect for analog circuits, no redstone mods seem to have any of them.
I would like this feature, and to me it seems like something needed. However, like many things Mojang adds, it probably won't work as well as it should.
Like how the implemented sticky pistons but removing sticky piston chaining (severely limiting the uses of pistons), the Daylight detector/light sensor whichever it is will probably be not as useful if there are not both a daylight detector and light sensor - meaning a detector to measure the sky lighting and a separate detector to measure non-sky lighting only. If it detects both, and you have it outside near torches, it will always be on. Daylight and block light are separate values with separate meanings, so they should have somehow separate detectors- either by crafting recipe (such as spider eye for light detector and ender pearl/eye for daylight detector) or an in-block setting.
Although, I find it impossible to tell the Minecraft devs anything, I find it very frustrating. They keep adding features that I am at first excited for - upon release I am greeted only with disappointment because of poor or incomplete implementation.
My favorite feature out of all of them in the last few major updates (and the only one I 100% liked) would probably have to be 3D items, and that wasn't even new code, just used again for items dropped in the world :|
I don't see how anyone could find use in a non-sunlight detector. From what I've thought of, all of the possibilities for a non-sunlight detector would be possible through another way. For example, if you wanted lava to flow near the detector to activate it, you could just use redstone repeaters instead.
To me it seems like they should work fine since they don't detect normal lights.

I think this block would come to major good use in Adventure Maps, like people have to activate the Light Sensor Block to continue the map, activate traps, etc.

yes the light sensor dose indeed decrease in strength when there is less light. so early in the morning you will get a very week signal, and then when you get to high noon the signal is at full strength.
I love that we finally have this in vanilla but I wish it was a night time detector instead (only providing power at night) or could be toggleable between two states. Yes, I know this can be done simple by sending a piece of redstone to a block with a torch on the opposite side but wouldn't it be cool if this worked at night?

I absolutely LOVE it. Everything about the 1.5 update is gonna be sweet. I don't understand the new redstone updates much so I'll have to tinker with it.
...huh? I think you may have mistyped...

plz don't discriminate about my spelling i know it sucks but i try my best

Yeah this was in NiftyCraft by Rolf even.
Yeah, I thought so too. But the terrain generator hasn't changed in the snapshot.
No, Jeb's not a troll. It's probably just terrain that looks like old generation.

I can't get it to respond to other lights. What steps did you take to make it respond to other light sources?
Help us at soartex.net!
To me it seems like they should work fine since they don't detect normal lights.
Personally I'm pretty excited about this feature.
It should also be used to speed up farming!
