Not downloading. After playing most of the snapshots, I can tell that the performance is nothing compared to what it used to be, and that there is nothing that really makes me go "OMG OMGO I MUST HAVE TEH UPDATE."
This is all a sort of wake-up call to the whole Notch/Jeb ****ed up i can't even log into a server i'm usualy just trying to troubleshoot it but if any1 has any opionions on this 1.3.1 canundrum it would be a nice way to pass the hours at least Diablo III is working fine cuz the updater pplz (lol) aren't doing jackshit (sorry if this looks like raging) but i'm fine i'll just do something else
Seriously? -.-
Okay, hope this gets into that thick skull of yours.
Once you update to 1.3 you can ONLY play singleplayer unless there is a Multiplayer server compatible for 1.3, Because almost all the server owners haven't updated their server yet because Bukkit has updated to 1.3, so in that case you either need to wait for them to update or downgrade.
But you can just wait if you want All those new features will make me not play Multiplayer for weeks maybe!
I like the new content. Performance seems to suffer a little. I'm seeing lots of bugs with the mobs. Animals push each other through walls, then rubber-band back to their correct spot. Single player seems to lag like a high ping server.
After getting a taste of trading in 12w27a I talked our SMP compound teammates into gearing up... we stockpiled production on goods like raw meats and tripled our wheat farming! We then made a Nether Portal in our basement. In the Nether we tunneled to the right location about 100 blocks and made another portal but didnt use it - we went back to the overworld to the corresponding location near two villages and made the overworld portal (so the right portals were linked).
Once we had our 4 portals (2 overworld & 2 Nether) we built a rail line between the nether portals and BAM! we had our wormhole! We could just go to the Nether and take the train then pop out of the Nether right by these two villages that were far away.
Today we got the update and guess what? We stuff our pockets with our goods and head out along our carefully crafted wormhole trade route and never spawn in the Nether! With our inventories full of tradeable goods we plummet into a buggy void because of a rush to market!
I went back and tried all the snapshots... and found that either we:
1) Stay at 1.2.5 until they fix things (most likely)
2) Go to 12w27a and lose all our signage (which hurts cause we have like 50 chests all labeled)
3) Go to 12w30a and lose the ability to access stacked chests (with 50 chests they're all stacked, duh!)
4) Go to 12w30b or later and simply avoid Nether Portals (making the journey to villages on foot rather than all the stuff put together in the first place!!!)
ugh!
Seriously, in my opinion, if you just fix the signs in 12w27a we would have a temporary version that would make me happy for about 3-4 weeks while you sort it out.
Good one though, plummeting our group thru the world with our inventories filled to the brim headed to trade at the villages via our fancy pants wormholes... you got us good. Congrats. Nice one. Classic. Stellar. Go pat yerself on the back for that one fellas. Really.
Thats a nice trade route you got there!
If I were you I would just build a rail way from your base to the villages in the overworld, and keep it that way untill maybe a 1.3.2 comes out that fixes all these bugs that only some people get. Besides, it would be mighty fun to ride that thing!
AAAWWWW COME OOOOONNNN!!!!!!!!!! I CANT PLAY MINECRAFT NO MORE!!!! it just gives me a black screen
i tried everything i know

You can't log into the server you normally play on if they didn't update to 1.3.1 yet, obviously
honest opinion from someone who
1. has tried most snapshots
2. has a "decent" computer
3. and also from someone who has a crappy computer (5-15 fps)
how is the performance affected at all?
also any real difference between this and the previous snapshots?
I have a slight increase in fps once everything is loaded on a 4 yr old pc. I run about 30 fps when things are loading, standing still with no major chunk updates going on I will even see 90's for fps. average in the 40s-50s I would guess.
So far, so good! I like the change in the Creeper explosion damage. The new texture of the gravel looks decent. I am VERY glad there were some good changes to the enchantment level requirements. The experience orbs from mining is kind of nice. The only thing I was not thrilled with was, when I first played after implementing the updates, I respawned on top of my mountain (instead of inside my house, which is inside the mountain) at night, getting lit up by spiders!!! Oh well, small price to pay, I guess. Still haven't found any emeralds yet, I explored the extreme hills a little, but didn't get any yet. Next up on my to do list, go check out the temples! All-in-all, good job by the developers!
I seem to recall, yesterday everyone super excited for the 1.3 update when Sacheverall posted it was coming in several hours.
Everyone seemed happy, but impatient. For the past month since Jens tweeted the plan was to release 1.3 on August 1st, I've seen many people (even experienced players) complain that it was too long of a wait. Saying that 'they wait so long to update but with hardly anything in the updates'.
Today, I look and see 80% of the community whos responded to this forum, have been complaining about this release. Many said that Minecraft 1.3 was rushed too fast, where Jens just wanted to get it over with. However this was not the case. Jens himself said 1.3 was the longest patch in Minecraft. It took four or five months for them to fully complete this.
To all you saying the merge was unnessesary:
The modding API has been planned for quite some time now. Over a year already. As soon as Notch gave the development of Minecraft to Jens, Jens said the first thing he is going to work on is the Mod API. He was planning to release the modding API in 1.3, but then realized that would take too long, and that he would just release 1.3 so the community could get the newer features faster. The Mojang team then decided that the Mod API would require every client to be a server. This is because the mods will, instead of being mods, will be plugins. Which if you haven't heard of, is like a mod for a server. Normally developed by Bukkit. So if the plugins are for servers, then everything would have to be a server.
Aswell as that, there are many other benefits for the merge. It will let the Mojang Team kill SMP and SSP bugs way quicker, for they will not have to update both the client AND the server; there will only be one.
And last but not least, ALL mods will be for server. This means that you wont find a mod that says "ONLY for SSP! NEVER for SMP!". ALL mods will be for SMP, which gives people who play on servers the benefit.
For all you saying 1.3.1 is too buggy and laggy:
In the past few snapshots in the 30th week of the year, the Mojang team was killing major bugs. By the prerelease, there were still some minor, and rare bugs which haven't been fixed yet. This might include world not generating properly, which is still rare, but happens.
If these bugs get too drastic they will probably release a 1.3.2 down the road. The same goes for the lag issues.
Me, myself, I have luckily found none of these bugs, and Minecraft plays smoothly still. But if your computer is crappy, theres nothing you can do about it
To all you whining you want to go back to 1.2.5:
As I said yesterday before the release, aswell as in a topic of my own, I gave all you clear directions to backup your 1.2.5 jars in case something happened. However, not all of you might have seen my post, or payed attention to it. Which is not your fault. But you can always use a program that lets you downgrade your Minecraft versions.
For all you telling the complainers to STFU:
While people complaining and whining wont get them anywhere, and I may sometimes agree that it becomes annoying, they still want to play Minecraft and enjoy it aswell. But hey, lag happens. Thats just how life is. You just deal with it untill it gets fixed.
I tried to reach everyones veiwpoint on the matter, and came to the conclusion: Minecraft 1.3.1 may have some annoying aspects to it. But you can't do anything about it. You just deal with it untill the matter gets resolved. You just try to enjoy the game as it is, not complaining about it. That wont get you anywhere.
I hope I was of some help here, and that everyone may calm down now!
Lets just play Minecraft and enjoy it without complaining! ^v^
why cant i turn on the bonus chest? and whats the adventure?
bonus chest is in the more world options when your about to make the world, and the adventure doesn't let you destroy blocks for a more RPG type mods and other uses.

Just gonna stick with ole' reliable 1.2.5.
