The idea is that you criticize during development so that the people who make the games know what to change. For instance, gravel now looks EXTREMELY bad, why is there not Nether ores yet and Single Player Severs don't have reason. If you want to show your friends something, build it on a server or give a map download.
So what your saying is:
'The idea is that you tell jeb that his game sucks and that he shouldnt develope it anymore and his taste for textures is sickening?'
If you really feel that way I can asure you that I can go twitter jeb right now and tell him how you feel...
And they never promised nether ores.
Once theyre done the server/client and 1.3 THEN tell them if its bad or good. Otherwise youll never know what the full version will be like because your so stuborn that you dont want to see how Mojang developes their games.
Im sure once 1.3 comes out you will think likewise and agree that its good. The merge will kill almost every SMP bug and alot of SSP bugs because Jeb wont have to update two.THAT is the reason why theyre merging the two together so there IS a reason for it
I read emerald and Ender Chests and immediately flipped out.
I WUV YOU MINECRAFT! KEEP UP THE AMAZINGNESSSSSSSSSsssss... *large explosion*
Oh I suppose that was one of the new TNT traps XD.
Look forward to villager trading too! Everything looks amazing! Fix the bugs and I'll be right with you...

Define Cute (choose 1): A) Creepers Aerbunnies C) Herobrine. If you chose A): You appeal to destruction and to stereotypes. If you chose B): You are a perfectly normal person, and enjoy the Aether Mod. If you chose C): Please leave the planet now before you set off a nuclear warhead--no one enjoys mass murders, however nice they might seem to you.
Oh no! They actually added a new ore! Why would they do that? To me, it ruins the concept of minecraft that has been there since the earliest versions... I mean, why not use gold to craft coins or something like that. Also Changing gravel's texture was wrong. It's just ugly. And wait. It is now uneffected by gravity. SERIOUSLY?!
Well, other than that, it's a preety good update, especially the pyramids and the ender chests.

Okay I'm going to go ahead and say this, because nobody has seemed to really touch upon why the merging of SSP and SMP was done not in the best way...
So, the merging of SSP and SMP in order to kill bugs and update the game at twice the rate, plus giving them the ability to implement the long-awaited modding API, seems to be a pretty good idea. But, it isn't really done in a great way. If you're like me, you like playing a single player game because it offers privacy, and I'm not talking about building cities with penis-shaped skyscrapers, but privacy in the sense that you can safely (more or less, damn creepers ) build a house and put diamonds in a chest without worrying about someone hacking or whatever and stealing your stuff or blowing up your house or griefing. Now, I understand that there are protection plugins aplenty, but there are other things about single player that make me enjoy it more than multi player. For one, (and if you are or ever have been an admin on a server like me, then you'll know what I'm talking about) you don't have to deal with little kids whining because you won't give them a free ride in a video game. Another thing which I am going to miss dearly is the fact that you can actually pause the game in single player. I mean, come on, if you're playing a game and you have to get up and do something (believe it or not, some people actually do ), pausing is a VERY useful feature which has been in existence pretty much as long as video games have been around.
Another thing which I will touch on briefly as it doesn't have much to do with MC, is this is the same thing that I feel is wrong with Blizzard's recent highly popular game Diablo III.
Going along with this, MC seems to be going in Diablo's direction as far as the single/multi-player.
With all that said, I propose something that in my mind makes a lot of sense, and seems like the most logical solution which will satisfy the maximum amount of people: In the options, create a button labeled "ONLINE: [ON/OFF]". There, it's as simple as that. When the button is set to on, the server.jar executes and the world is basically turned into a server, opening all connections and allowing people to join the game (I also think it would be cool to have an option to set the max. amount of players able to join the server, but that's besides the point). When the button is turned off, all currently connected players will be (and it will be up to the server owner to notify his/her players) kicked from the game, then all connections will be closed and pausing will be enabled again. So, basically the way it will be set up is that the entire game will be processed client-side, and the only thing that the server.jar will do is handle the connections and non-host player interactions with the world. I understand that it won't happen like this right away, and it will take time for the game to reach this, but I hope it will. So that when you switch between server and singleplayer, the game won't really even lag too much, since all that is being opened is internet connections, and disabling the pausing feature.
'The idea is that you tell jeb that his game sucks and that he shouldnt develope it anymore and his taste for textures is sickening?'
If you really feel that way I can asure you that I can go twitter jeb right now and tell him how you feel...
I feel as though you don't fully realize the purpose of these snapshots. The purpose actually IS to criticize development. I think where this statement might have confused you is the word 'criticize'. This does not mean that you should flame Jeb if you don't like something, it's more like constructive criticism, something I hope he can handle . The reason they are releasing the game's dev content early is so that we, the community, the source of the revenue for the game, can get a hold of it and tell them what we do and don't like. Just like what I said earlier in this post, I don't like the direction he is taking the merging of SSP and SMP. So, I made a post saying so in the hopes that the community will back me and through some freak incident the word gets to Jeb and he realizes that the community isn't pleased with this and he can change it so that we are happy. Because to be perfectly honest, he isn't developing the game for himself. With that said, I also provided a possible solution to the problem that I find has been posed. I feel as though this is a perfectly acceptable thing to do.
All in all, the features are summing up to be pretty awesome, what with the villager trading and pyramids with their loot and tnt traps, large biomes, biome-specific villages, more detailed terrain generation (a BIG thank you for finally tackling the somewhat shoddy terrain gen btw ^^), and other various things like that.
P.S.: I apologize for the extremely long post, I tend to get carried away sometimes ^^.
Okay I'm going to go ahead and say this, because nobody has seemed to really touch upon why the merging of SSP and SMP was done not in the best way...
What do you mean 'done'? it was never done. They havent finished it.
Jeb and the Mojang team NEVER asked anyone to test the client/server, they only included it in the snapshot (no idea why tbh)(theres not even a way to join someones world yet)
The reason why they didnt ask anyone to test it is because they are not finished it. Once they finish it then they will accept the criticizement. The community will tell Jeb what things they dont like (example, they might want to play single singleplayer for less lag)
then Jeb will most likely make it so you can get that choice.
They havent announced anything about it except the fact that theyre working on it. Once they finish it they will mold it the way the community wants it.
If you're like me, you like playing a single player game because it offers privacy,
One fact that has been brought out several times by Mojang is the fact that it will be 'private server' or 'local server'. You will be able to keep all youre diamonds in a chest and people do NOT have the ability to join your world. YOU have the ability to invite the people to join your world. Hence if you want to invite your bro or friend to play with you/ show off your diamonds to him YOU would have to invite him, not he just come in a join and throw you diamonds into the lava of the nether. You will NOT need any plugins/mods to keep people from joining. If lil kids join your world and start complaining then its your fault for inviting them in. The pausing game issue IS a bug i repeat IS a bug. Dinnerbone tweeted it and I will find it if you really want me to. He said it will be fixed (idk how maybe like a thing that paueses everything within 10 blocks from you)
I agree with the idea you have of an off/on thingy. Then people who hate the idea can play their lonely little singleplayer game and people who think theres no real point in making huge awesome epicness in MC when no one really can see it (besides making a server, which requires a whole load of crap) willactually have a reason to make it (like me)
The purpose of snapshots are for people to test the game and report any bugs. Not telling Jeb if his game is falling or flying.
When Notch developed the game, he didnt even use snapshots, he just randomly updated a thing with a whole bunch of stuff, which is still here today and everyone seems to be fine about it. When/if jeb retires (i hope never) im sure everyone will be perfectly fine with the features, like the same with everyone being fine about notch's stuff.
And jeb himself really loves the new texture for gravel (tbh it looks like something off a little kids game)
But anyway....
They havent included anything else with the client/server merge yet, but probably next snapshot or the next one after that they will.
When they do people can tell them what they do and dont like.
In the end 1.3 will be a pretty big update with major changes, along with 1.4 with the API, and im 100% sure that everyone will be happy with how its being developed and how it will be developed in the future.
I LOVE EVERYTHING IN THIS SNAPSHOT! Apart from the fact that there is NO single player anymore fml and that it lags my Minecraft down to 10 fps from the usual 60 and the fact that for some reason I can't record Minecraft anymore. hmm
I've noticed that the testificate textures aren't loading correctly. They all look like the default farmer but when you trade with them you can tell that isn't their profession. Anyone know a fix for this?
What do you mean 'done'? it was never done. They havent finished it.
etc etc...
I meant 'done' as in the way they have done it so far. I am fully aware that they haven't finished developing the update. I am also of the opinion that what better time to critique their work than when they are still developing it? If you think about it logically, it would be alot easier for Jeb to change some stuff around while he was releasing snapshots instead of creating a whole new update with the changes people ask for.

...it will be a 'private server'...
I was unaware of this, I must have missed it on twitter. This is a fair point, though I was just throwing out examples of why someone would want to play single player over multi player.

Just a little side note, I don't play minecraft really to build anything epic, just to play survival and explore my world, which is mine. This is actually another thing I forgot to mention as a reason I don't particularly enjoy multi player. I like having a world that is mine and mine alone. Most admins nowadays will section off areas where you are allowed to build and not allowed. Granted, on some servers avoiding this just means walking for about 10 minutes into the wilderness, but on more popular servers, you could walk for hours ad hours and still find people to bother you. Anyway, continuing on...

I actually am going to have to disagree with you here. While part of the purpose is for people to report bugs, it is also to discuss what you do and don't like about it. Like I said earlier, wouldn't that make sense? That way they can do more without having to make a whole new update to include the changes that the community asked for. I can criticize/critique the game all I want. Whether or not Jeb listens, well, that is his own problem.
As for what you said about him eventually adding an online option similar to the one I have mentioned, well I certainly hope so.

have any of you found a good seed since this new update ive been trying to find a pyramid and a village that are close or atleast on the same map. if you find one please post the seed.
I used the seed .... Wait for it... It is "amazing" and "epic" and truly astonishing!! And if I have missed out any other superlatives commonly used on the seeds forum, feel free to add them in.
It is: 1
I will repeat it for clarity and to reduce complexity: 1
That's right. "1".
Generate with Large Biomes ON and you will get this (pics have coords. The seed if you forget it, is '1')
The maximum legit level is 3 unless more were to be added by the player.

What about Water/lava/milk buckets, do those stack at all?
I'd test this myself but I'm worried about the level corruption part, my precious saves. >.<
64 bukets in one stack.
