the only negative thing to come from this update is wood slabs burn now which makes building a decent house with wood floors and a fireplace way more difficult than it needs to be
the system for fire needs to be change to be more realistic wood does not spontaneously burst into flames a meter away from a fire unless it is extremely hot. if they fix that it will more than make up for the change to the slabs
Wood does burst into flames if a bit of fire gets on it. That's why, just like in real life, you should put either a glass pane or metal screen (iron bars in this case) in front of the fireplace. At my IRL house, we have a metal screen that pulls shut and also glass doors that swing open.
On his twitter, jeb_ said "Sorry but I don't plan to add that" in response to the question of why stairs weren't added in the new woods.
I can see how the editable books would be helpful for map makers, but it means nothing to me when I can't design things (i.e. roofs) properly without stairs in the corresponding colors.
Too bad the books are done half-assed also. Anyone looking forward to having to delete/re-write 20 pages of text to edit a typo?
Don't plan to add that? how halfassed is that? No steps to match the new colors? Then why add them at all if he has no plans to do it properly across the board?
and once more for good measure, why do we still not have sandstone stairs! come on!
The books aren't really usefulunless you can copy them for MP servers easily (rulebooks). How about maps that we can place markers on... or a map that is actually useful.
Wood slabs in different colors is cool. Sure stairs are next, maybey even fences?
book recipie change is OK. makes sense.
Breaking Ice in The Nether no longer produces water
OHHH, Vechs is going to be mad if this is true.
I hope they change it back. I mean, what was wrong with using hard-to-get enchant for even more hard-to-do-things? Water in the Nether via ice-block didn't sound a weird thing. Only thing that should be changed in code is:
if (biome == hell && block == water)
{
water_max_spread = 4; //or what ever the lava spread is in overworld..
if (light_level >= 11)
water_evaporate();
}
if (biome == hell && block == ice && light_level >= 9)
ice_melt();
Edit: and by saying "change it back" I mean only that water no longer in the Nether thingy, not that you are able to mine ice with enchanted pickaxe. -.-
Having water in the Nether meant nearly an infinite source of Obsidian, which would make it too easy to get.
I feel books could use a sixty-four or thirty-two page limit instead of fifty. Multiples of eight are just sexy that way. The enchantment glow is a bit much, as well. (Honestly an eight page limit would be enough, I think...)
An ideal solution would be to have only books signed in creative mode glow. This way adventure map creators could have their map relevant info-books stand out, but player journals would be mundane looking.
Finally, editable books! Hell yeah!
And yay for wooden slabs actually acting as wood! <3
Also, I'm getting terribly curious about all that censored stuff. SO VERY CURIOUS.
Next minecraft suff?
Silk Touch works on Ice, Singleplayer Commands, Optional bonus chests next to spawn on new world, dispensers can place minecarts on rails and boats on water, and other stuff here is link http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Upcoming_features
thats so awesome, finally, no need for mods anymore, do you think we could be able to draw in them too???
that would be amazing, and store them in bookselves, but then you would have to meake them easier to create
Is there anywhere in particular to put bugs for this release? Just noticed that the "Starter chest" can have leaf blocks spawn over it, causing the items to be dropped on the ground.

These maps are super hostile, Their creator is evil (that's a good thing), And THE CAKE IS A LIE.---I use Map Generators! Bored of normal Minecraft? Try them!
ARGGGG!!! Wood is now rendered useless as far as i'm concrned. I am not going to risk my large wood mansions burning down in a fire! I carefully made all my wood structures out of half slabs which is more wood intendive but worth if for the fireproof benefits. Now wood is no good to build with!

i am so happy they added the new books.

Enter that and you'll score one hundred thousand rupees for us both, along with a spiffy card!

I'll hope they'll fix the lighting bug with the upside down slabs first...
Love the books though
Is Obsidian currently hard to get? News to me.
Also, is obsidian game breaking?
I always fail to understand you "water in nether is bad!!!11" people and your weird logic.
