You simply will never get mod support for snapshots. They are so much in flux that no mod developer is going to waste their time on trying to build a mod for them. Sometimes the MCP guys watch snapshots to try and identify new classes added by Mojang, but even that isn't very serious.
I think you need to look into finding another way to play Minecraft. Assuming you are using a more modern computer since you are using Java (hence Mac OS-X, Windows, or Linux), you can create multiple user accounts on those computers. It is beyond the discussion of this thread to say how that is done, but I would suggest you create multiple "users" on your computer and have separate installations of Minecraft, one that has the current formal release of Minecraft, one for all of the mods you may enjoy, and then still another "user" for these weekly snapshots. Doing something like that is nice especially if you have incompatible mods you like to use, and you don't need to worry too much about "manually" swapping out the files. As long as you are logging out of those separate user accounts on your personal computer when you switch from one version of Minecraft to the next, there is no performance penalty nor do you even need to buy another user account for Minecraft.
I do this for testing mods myself, and especially for mod development, but it works real nicely for testing weekly snapshots like this as well.
I want this SO badly, but I have a Mac, and it wants me to put the minecraft_server.jar in a "server" folder, and I don't have one! HELP!
Don't worry! I didn't have a server folder either. Just create a new folder in your minecraft folder and name it server. Drag your server.jar in there and it should work. Though I am on a PC and don't have access to my brother's Mac at the moment to test this.

I'm having fun with this snapshot. Usually I'm terrified of fighting monsters but, I'm staying on Easy and did some caving without switching to peaceful like I tend to do lol. I died a few times, one of them by pure stupidity (I went afk thinking I was paused). But I got five diamonds and full iron armor, and am leaving the village I spawned in to search for oak trees and sheep. large biomes is neat, but resources are more difficult to acquire if you don't spawn in a forest. Been using the logs from the village farms for wood. I do notice that the compass seems to be buggy. It's not pointing at my spawn point. Will check back some pages to see if anyone else had this issue.
I tried making a world in Minecraft and of course it loaded up and did the usual but it said let single player worlds can act as servers and my brother tries to connect but there is no world showing up for him D:
This new "multiplayer singleplayer" crap is stupid. If I wanted to play mutliplayer, I would. I want to play single player but it doesn't feel like it is. I love how it has a console so I can talk to myself and when I pause and want to log off, it says, "Disconnect". Probably the best one is when I want to spawn something via Toomanyitems, it spits it on the ground, just like multiplayer!! To even play SINGLEPLAYER I need to use Hamachi. How unnecessary is this I mean really. The reason Xbox multiplayer is the way it is, is because it's the only way multiplayer would work, plus it is greatly simplified this way. The computer version was completely fine before and we don't need this. This is the worst update ever and it's ridiculously stupid.
Now I start getting this pop up when I've been running Minecraft for a few minutes: net.minecaft.server.MinecraftSerer as an application. So I get to play SINGLEPLAYER with Hamachi and this open, taking up space in my dock now? That's lovely especially since this applet seems to be slowing down my computer quite a bit. Another thing I love: I was just kicked from my own SINGLEPLAYER world. I wanted to spawn some torches via TMI instead of a full stack. I kept right clicking and I probably clicked like 15 times. Then I get kicked for "spam". I even had to op myself in order to spawn items. Is this even my world anymore? I can't pause my own world anymore and therefore I can't manually save via pausing anymore. I have to type in the save command.
Any one else getting, for the lack of a better term, "lag issues" when playing single player?
Things like arrows comming out of your chest rather than the bow (also lacks the sparkle when you fire a fully drawn bow).
Your dogs falling through the ground when they follow you (seems to be just a graphical issue as they dont suffocate).
Enemy mobs hitting you before they should beable to, also they tind to "skip" around a little when moving.
And other things you often encounter when playing a server?
I really hope im not the only one.

Yep. Multiplayer has always been more laggy than singleplayer, even if you're the only one on the server. Now that singleplayer is multiplayer, it will probably always be laggy.
I really wish Mojang would post something about this SMP/SSP thing, and get all these complainers to SHUT UP! Theyre going to fix the lag if you give them a chance....
I dont think I can read these forums anymore because I just get so mad when people are complaining about something that Mojang has hardly touched on yet.

Yeah I don't really think so. I've never had a problem with any update until now so it's not like I'm someone who just complains about every update. This multiplayer singleplayer is a horrible idea and needs to be removed.

I've been trying to get this to work since 12w18a. Basically, my girlfriend really wants to play with me so i've been tinkering around with trying to get her to connect to me.
The problem: We both have the newest snapshot installed (properly), I've created the map (single-player server), but every time she enters my IP address, it tells her the connection is refused
Extra: yes she is on my network, I've already tried turning off my firewall, and I know she's entering the correct IP address
Can anybody help me? she really wants to play :/ Thank you in advance!

Do you have a router? If so, you still need to port forward even if they are on your network.
Maybe I can help:

Version 2.1 now updated for MC 1.6.2

I would survive 32 days in a creeper apocalypse.

Yep you need to use Hamachi. Google it and install it. You will need to run it while you play Minecraft now. Isn't that wonderful?!
If only MCEDIT was still around....

Atleast wait for Mojang to finish it
