How does this seem similar to something that has happened earlier this year?
The Bethesda thing? No, couldn't be!
This is actually what bothers me the most about this particular incident. The two are just really all too similar to pass off as incidental. People may champion Notch for being "transparent" on Twitter, but the reality is that saying things in certain ways in the public eye aren't being transparent, but instead aimed at shaming the other party or inciting anger toward them from their customer base/fans. The first thing I saw about that lawsuit was him saying Bethesda was suing over the name, which was blatantly false. It was their parent company's lawyer group making the suit, but saying that up front wouldn't have caused the internet storm that saying Bethesda did it did. Naturally, he had to "clarify" later as that wouldn't have held up to scrutiny, but the damage in terms of PR was already done.
So we jump forward to Minecon, and suddenly another seemingly out of nowhere attack appears on Twitter again. Now I'm not going to say he's outright lying. But let's look at this another way. Maybe he heard from someone that they overheard the Yogscast crew complaining amongst themselves that the con was being run poorly, which by all accounts, it was chaos for many people, and having had a decent amount of alcohol at the after party, took unneeded offense to it. The problem is that rather than talking it out, company to company, he went on the PR offensive and essentially threw them under the bus just like he did with Bethesda. With just a few vague accusations, they now had to go and publicly reply to try and recover thousands of subscribers and pray the idiots DDOSing their site would accept their side of the story and stop. It's a cowardly way to do business, and if he wasn't the owner of Mojang, any other company would likely have fired him for the potential public relations nightmare, not to mention legal ramifications it could bring about. I honestly don't give a damn about the petty fight; I'm still going to watch videos and play the game as I did before, but this should never have happened in the first place, and it's a shining example of how the face of your company shouldn't post both business and personal grudges on the same forum.
It's good that this has been resolved; I like Notch and the Yogscast equally, and find it hard to believe that either would do something like what had been mentioned.
Guys.. What the **** ?? i mean firstly.. i saw some dudes sayin like """"" I'll Stay on MOJANG's SIDE CUZ that that and that """""" i mean what the hell ?? it's not like the entire mojang team ****ed up with the yogscast.. it was just Notch who i really admire but come on now.. just ****ed up badly. and what the hell is up with all the hate flying from side to side ?? i mean they were drunk.. both probably.. probly notch could've seen some skinny ass dude wearing some glasses and a BIG(?) fat dwarf say something like **** YEAH !! and drunk as he was just tought it was the yogs guys.. so yeah lots of text here =P
I'm quite proud of Notch right now. From all the videos I've seen of him, he seems like a very kind, non-confrontational man. His beard even makes him look impossibly happy at all times. With the stress of Minecon, the culmination of the game he invented, it's not surprising to see he suffered some stress and said some things he regrets. But he spoke up and took the blame and apologized. That takes more guts than calling somebody out. Good on ya, Notch.
not sure if you realize this but it wasnt a rant as you put it, he was saying what he thought was said, the yogscast put out this post to disperse all the mis-understanding, i dont see how you wouldn't expect notch to act like he did. if someone walked up to you and said "F*** You" would you thank them? no you wouldn't (im not saying they did this is just an example with chocolate and sprinkles.. but sometimes vanilla ice-cream. or how about pepsi?)
Ok honestly, does it matter whos was more thought out or not?
If I was Notch I would be pretty stressed out about recieving threats and the sort from Yogscast fans. Not taking sides I just think someone has to defend the man who created this great game we all enjoy so much.
Now lets get back to playing, ehh?

Happiness is like peeing in your pants lots of people can see it but only you can feel it..
I'm actually kind of curious when saying "I apologize for being a ****" on a twitter page became an actual apology worth anything? For that matter, what was he apologizing for? He already apologized for pushing the issue online rather than in private and went on to state he still stands by his claims against the Yogscast, so...
Anyone have any tips on how to get my boss to make a twitter account? Being able to absolve my "dickish-ness" through that method would be far easier than anything else.
I have no idea whether or not the Yogscast people did anything wrong. I don't watch their vids and only have a vague idea who they are. I could hardly care less about all the videos on youtube or all the twats on twitter... or whatever...
Regardless of what happened though there's no way Notch could be in the right here. He simply should not have said anything about it online until he had talked to the Yogscast about it. As a game designer, I have a lot of respect for Notch. But, as the leader and "frontman" for a company he's really not done so well. If he was just an average con-goer comments like that wouldn't matter but as a representative of Mojang he has a lot of influence on the opinions of the community. He should really think more before making posts that could hurt the image (and possibly livelihood) of another party. He has apologised for being a **** but really it's something that shouldn't happened in the first place.
Did you even read the article? It says Notch already apologized and he wants to put the whole thing behind him like the Yogscast do. The Yogsast probbaly wern't even thinking about what would happen after doing what they did and like Notch said, was "stress-related". Anyway, this is no reason to stop watching the Yogscast. :dry.gif:
You mean his twitter statement (Article? Really?) which was pre-faced with the word "likely"?
Also LOL at all the people who are posting stuff like "so are you saying Notch was lying?" Is that the limit of your imagination? You ca't picture someone (a retard) simply being mistaken about something? He goofed, that's all. Not malicious, just dumb.
It's hilarious that when Notch posted these comments on Twitter, people were all over the Yogscast. Now that they have responded, everyones going at Notch's throat. At his point, you can't call Notch on anything. The people who are saying that Yogscast/Notch is a ****, are the worst of all.
Notch admitted he was wrong. He apologized and said it was a misunderstanding, he said he overreacted. Jeez, stop flaming him. Yeah, he was wrong and acted like a total ass. But now that he's admitted it, leave him alone. When someone admits they were wrong, stop hassling them. That's just rubbing it in at that point.
I'm not saying Notch was "in the right", but he admitted he was wrong. When HE admits, he doesn't need YOU telling him.
Regarding dropping f-bombs at the show - we apologise for this, but had rehearsed the whole show in front of the organisers and half of Mojang and they had approved it. We were given no guidelines or oversight in the weeks leading up to Minecon and there were ample opportunities at the rehearsal for Mojang to inform us of problems, such as being careful about swearing, which is pretty common in our youtube videos.
It's a child-friendly event that will obviously draw large numbers of young kids. Why the hell would you assume, unless explicitly told otherwise, that it's fine to swear in this context? Swearing and being unruly in public can get you fined by the police. (At least it can here in Melbourne, Australia.) You don't need to put a sign up for it to obviously be the wrong thing to do or even just against the rules/ law.
With some younger kids around, it was our priority to make sure everything was safe, as we have seen injuries in the past.
So presumably you were too busy protecting children from falling rubble to worry about the small stuff?
We were also unhappy and surprised that a week before Minecon, Mojang informed us that they had sold the rights to livestream our show and content to IGN – they hadn’t asked us, they hadn’t spoken to us – they just sold it... Hannah actually spoke with IGN directly earlier, and they agreed to take their video down and let us put the videos up on our channel, so a big thanks to them for that.
That's a completely valid complaint. But it's a little weird that IGN would just concede rights that they had bought and paid for.
We were not paid, and never demanded to be paid. We asked for some support, and Mojang said they could offer us two hotel rooms for the duration of the stay and a small boardroom to rest in. We spent a huge amount of money on flights, rooms, food and equipment for the 10 people that we brought along to support us, act as security, make videos/posts and generally help out. We also gave away 100 special t-shirts for free... we decided to eat the costs of attending and just have fun.
The funny thing here is that you're implying Mojang should have paid for more than the two hotel rooms and small boardroom to rest in, and that you shouldn't have had to pay for things like flights, rooms, food, equipment, or 10 people to come along and support you. Which is very, very close to what Notch complained about ("demanded that we pay them"; "acted like total spoilt divas".)

"I'd say it was me overreacting, and then falling for twitter peer pressure."
Now let's all forget this fiasco and move on, kthxbye.
