I feel sorry for you Paril, for getting flamed so much. You did a FANTASTIC job on this, but it's just that my pc can't handle :\. My pc never handled 3D programs that don't use java well, and .NET framwork stuff is what my pc fails even harder in. I'll see as to what I can do to make it work! Again, you did a fantastic job creating this program, and I hope it will be popular around all skinners (or perhaps, the biggest part)!
I know. It's to be expected though, people like to feel like the programs they use are better. Add me on MSN or Skype, I'll help you get it working.
this is better. It allows you to view player and mob skins, and edit them with the editor you are comfortable using, and as soon as you save, it automatically changes in the program :DPS there is a link on the word "this" in my last post
It's not bad - it's nowhere near advanced in terms of 3D painting, however. As for automatic changing in the program itself, that has been planned as well.
And? I don't see his skin program anywhere here, unless I missed it. I didn't use any prior art except for SkinEdit, so I'm not really ripping anybody off. 3D painting has been around for ages. Martin did it in q2mdlr over 9 years ago. Your point?
Have you actually TRY it? It's meant for texturing, not picking from a bunch of pre-made parts...
SkinCraft is completely different in terms of usage ideas.
well, I use novaskin too, it's the same thing, has pre-defined positions, and a gallery with other people works. Maybe I'll give a try on this one, but just think of this, what would you prefer? Download a program or just go to a website?
But good work anyway. Couldn't have done better myself

have you even compared the two??? no, you are obviously blowing smoke.
and I don't want to create a constant connection from my IP to a server anytime I want to edit something.
Well done, Paril, should i ever need to make some skins, i'll probably download and use this, also, dont take anything the haters/flamers say seriously, its like like the PC vs Mac or PS3 vs Xbox360 Flame wars; "my console/program is better than yours just 'cause its the only one i've used, so im gonna disregard yours as crap without even lookin' at it", its like that, so yeah, dont believe the haters and keep up the good work.
I tried it. Its an interesting concept, but I still prefer SkinEdit. Kudos for having the knowledge to program something like this though. I don't see any need to flame, plenty of that in this thread. I'm not sold on it, and I'm not sure I like the idea of the application accessing the net to upload.
Now something I would like to see, and I imagine you could use this program as your base to make it...
a texture editor. See a 3D block of coal or cobblestone/etc, and paint it directly. I haven't seen one of those yet, and I could put that to good use.
Why do they always post the awkwardly unused utilities on the news, when there's things like SkinEdit?
This program fixes some of SkinEdit's problems and shares the ability to draw directly onto the model, like with Nova Skin.
It's also only four days old (since public release), so... I'm not sure about the "awkwardly unused" thing. :/ It seems to be doing well for such a short span of time.
Guys,
Sure, there may be a better thing to make skins on. There also may be other programs similar. But telling him "This has already been done by SomeRandomDude and it's like, 100000000x better!" doesn't help the creator a lot, does it? I mean, what are you accomplishing when you say that? It's not like he's going to remove the program or something if it's already been done.
Anyways, this program doesn't look too bad. I personally don't make my own skins, I usually edit them, but I'm sure some people will like it. Well done!
It's unfortunate it's built with .net 4.0, otherwise I might migrate over to it from SkinEdit. Why that's the only reason holding me back is I use Ubuntu Linux on my two computers and Wine has issues with .net based programs, especially .net 4.0.
I don't know if Mono is as far along as .net is right now but it wouldn't hurt to consider it so us non-windows users can mess with it. Still, it looks incredibly well built and is an interesting way to design player skins.

Several. I encourage you to check the Minecraft wiki (http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Editors), which lists nearly every editor available.

Great job by the way Paril! Nice to know many people are still contributing to the minecraft content!
