My friend and I were watching the first video, when we both noticed some odd (and kind of cool) behavior with the lighting as notch entered a cave carrying a torch. It seemed at first like the carried torch was giving off light. Then later it looked like the lighting was somehow adjusting to the darkness after a few seconds, and would flare up badly for a moment when notch placed a torch.
Then we re-watched it, and noticed the background around the outside of the monitor getting brighter and darker, and realized that it was the camera on the Android phone that was adapting to the low-light on-screen conditions in the caves and was taking a moment to adjust to the brighter lighting once torches were placed.
So, a little bit sad that that isn't actually a feature of minecraft... and this video suffers from the same problem, because as you watch, Notch is adjusting the brightness slider, and yet we can hardly see the difference because the camera pointing at the screen is dynamically adjusting it's own light balance to compensate for the lighting changes.
Guess we're going to have to wait for some kind of screencast,, or else we'll just have to wait til 1.8 comes out, to really understand what's so special about the changes to lighting.
my thoughts on this:
i hope the enderman doesnt break my house apart :ohmy.gif:
im preety sure he just hasnt gotten the npcs working yet...
and the skill thing sounds cool wonder what hes gonna do with it..
I WANT TO FIGHT IN A STRONGHOLD
and did anyone else see the watermelon slice?
1.8 and 1.9 IS GONNA BE AWESOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOME!
hunger is going to be horrible... correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't that mean that food will no longer heal health on the spot...? We have to wait until we are healed? *sigh*. The bow I'm have mixed feelings about, i loved the current mechanics, plain and simple. I don't like the whole have to hold it down then shoot idea. The brightness i am very excited about, the only reason i skip night time by sleeping and don't venture out in the night is because i couldn't see anything.Endermen look decent, not as scary as i expected though.Sprinting seems very annoying to use.Thats all i have to say /rant.

Noone is forcing you to update to 1.8.Just stay in 1.7.3 and let the rest of the world update to 1.8
Also the bow mechanics are better in 1.8 that is called realistic
a couple of weeks!? for not even all of the update? if anything delay the endermen, strongholds, and exp systems.
why those three?
endermen look like the drawings of a four year old.
I dont mind waiting for strongholds.
EXP needs to be different. one exp bar for everything makes it really idiotic. why should you get xp only for killing things anyway? I want exp for playing the game not combat. I want to level up for mining, woodcutting, building/crafting, and combat. honestly I avoid fighting in minecraft so I can enjoy it when I have to do it. now with this exp system fighting is required.
