I'd like to thank everyone who posted on here. Recently I've started to get bored with minecraft. I couldn't think of anything else to build. I have several mansions, an entire continent, a castle and a ton of other things I've built on the survival server I play on. But thanks to all of you I've now been inspired! The hardest thing for me is "finishing" the inside of a dwelling. Generally my structures look great from the outside and are empty on the inside. So I've started working on my new awesome storage spot! I literally just started it, so I don't have any pic of it that's worth while, but here's a pic of the mansion I'm putting it in

There is some very fine work in this thread. Thanks to all who showed off their storage rooms. You've given me something to strive towards. The level of dedication some of you have shown is jaw dropping. I wish I had the creative skills to match.
Space saving storage room taking advantage of trapped chests
I actually have another room as well that was originally my unorganized storage but I decided to try and challenge myself by getting a double chest of every block/item in the game (within reason)
Mine is quite simple and crude, but it's proven to be very effective. Definitely not as pretty as a lot of the others in here, but I'm satisfied with it for now. To the left it goes straight outside, the staircase on the right side of the image leads up to my room and the rest of the main house, the hallway straight ahead leads to more parts of the house that are in development, and straight to the right, out of the image, leads to my nether portal and my cave system. There are more chests near the front of the hallway where you see it open up slightly to the right.
I've also arranged so much glowstone because I've decided I don't want any torches at all in this room.
This is the exact area where I first dug into my mountain and I just decided never to really move my main storage area.
In the future I may decide to re-do this to make it look nicer but I would need a lot of time, a good idea, and of course a silk touch pickaxe so I can safely remove all of that glowstone.
Alright, so I quoted my previous post ITT to show what it used to look like and how far I've come. I decided that I had greatly outgrown this space and built a new storage room that should be much more effective for the long-term future, more neatly organized and much nicer-looking. I simply dug into the ground in front of my house, 3 floors deep. My old storage room has been stripped of its chests, but I haven't yet re-organized it into anything else (although I know what I want to do with it).
The ceiling is flat because I put a "green roof" above it that's 2 blocks of dirt deep. Above the redstone lamp is a redstone torch, which powers both the redstone lamps in the image and an equivalent one above to light the roof.
Top floor (no chests, but a row of furnaces along one wall; the room from the post that I quoted is through the double iron doors and to the right)
Second floor (first floor of chests, most of my main storage is here and everything is labeled properly)
Bottom floor (most of these chests are still empty, although there's still some organizing to do)
View from bottom floor
Also, on the second floor, there's a door that leads into the new potion room I built attached to this
When I saw the first one, I wasn't really impressed with it. The upgrade is extremely impressive! You did a really good job on it. I love the separate layers and making sure to keep it from looking too crowded!
Thanks for the compliment. It's a good way of showing how far I've come as a builder since my early days.
I've essentially retired the single player world that this was on though. I'm starting a new one for 1.6, but most of my recent time has been spent on my private server that I run. I've got another very nice storage room on there that I'm pretty happy with, when I have time I'll post a picture of that.
This is very cool but aren't you worried about fire?
Fire? Torches don't burn wool.
Unless you think the orange wool is lava. Which it isn't. I'll need to update this format anyway to take advantage of the hoppers we have now.

Made with Better Than Wolves Mod. When i took this, i hadn't put the Item frames yet, but there are 2 per chest, one on each side.
Those purple blocks on the walls look really nice! Is that part of a texture pack? I'm just asking because when I checked out the Better Than Wolves mod on youtube all the tutorials I watched seemed outdated, and did not include those nice blocks and columns. Could you please tell me what those are and how to get them?

No, those are just chopping blocks. There's quite a bit of info on the wiki, if you ever wanna take a look.
Here's another angle:
whats your texture pack dude? it looks awesome
Then you'll find your answer.
This is the room from the outside
This is what it looks like when the door opens (it opens up and down).
And this is the view looking back towards where the door is.

Just standard storage area for my base.
I tried to use hoppers for my farm and store directly to my storage room.
