Hey everyone, I have made a prototype Airlock on my redstone testing world. This is the one I will be using on my challenge LP shortly. I hope you think it fits the post nuclear advanced airlock theme.
WATCH IN HD
Please leave some comments, or constructive criticism. This took me a total of 2 hours to make. Would have taken less time, but I had a problem making one of the chemical bath blocks retract. And I also spilled water all over the interior wirings(Derp...). So it slowed me down a bit.
@Cheese Master
You could find string in dungeon chests, I believe? Not sure. Anyway, you could make wool out of the string for beds. Not efficient but doable.

So can you make a grass farm to harvest non-contaminated mobs since there are no "Grass seeds", the only way to make grass is to branch it down into a tunnel.
this is a good challenge its just that.....how r u gunna get a shelter on the first night?! and how r u gunna make a cobble house coated with smooth stone house on the first night....and how r u gunna make a fresh water source for ur airlock on the first night.... i think its its good it just needs some revising...
um go underground

every day 5 creepers are killed for just 9:99 a month you can save these magical creatures
please call 555-6584 to save these creatures
A Geiger Counter simulation would be integrated into the item cleaning water conveyor. It would randomly cycle to use a piston to push random items into lava as you dropped them in to clean them. The result would be a 'test' to destroy contaminated items.
Going to give this a shot, I built a pre-apocalypse home that I plan to include in a fraps'd video, getting destroyed by the blast as I try to survive. It will be like a video diary-type thing.
Soon as my friend and I sort out the issue with my private server.

If Facebook, Myspace, and Twitter were all destroyed, 90% of teens would go insane. If you're one of the 10% that would be laughing at them, copy this into your signature and hope it happens.
Damn, I did something like this several months ago. Lost the map, but I had a sprawling underground fallout shelter of more than 50,00 square meters floor space spanning 4 floors. Could safely and effectively house 32 inhabitants. It had various farms at the lowest level, a cafeteria with seating, plenty of bedrooms, and a main foyer that spanned 2 floors, similar to how Fallout's shelters were constructed. Even had running water in all the bathrooms and an rudimentary airlock with falling-sand doors, all nearly 30m underground.
I want that map back.

What's it like this time of year in Logical Fallacy Land? I hear the weather is always nice because the weather is always nice.
An interesting idea.
How long after a nuclear apocalypse is this going to happen though?
After six months, most out doors areas are not going to be majorly radioactive. They should actually start dropping down to normal after 1 year.
Water by itself can never become radioactive. Only contaminants in it will make it radioactive. And boiling it would help get rid of the radioactive dirt in it.
Somewhat.
Underwater nuclear tests have proven this. Water absorbs radiation.
All things considered, water is one of the few things that will be resilient to a nuclear apocalypse.
Also, in a few years, farming is possible, it all depends how close to the blast you are.
Rebuilding of civilization is not exactly an impossibility. :smile.gif:
Just curious how much real life nuclear apocalypse is this based on, and how much is the sillyness of Fallout 3. :smile.gif:
This is an awesome challenge. A few questions though.
-Can you play on peaceful?
-It would be very hard to collect coal. How can you get it before the apocolypse?
-If you die and the fallout shelter is not directly over the spawn point during the day, do you get a time limit to get back to your shelter? What Penalty is there?
-If your armour still has time left on it, can you decontaminate it?
A lot of stuff in this challenge would be a lot simpler if you got more time to prepare.
Realistically speaking, if you haven't built a fallout shelter before the nuclear apocalypse then you will be dead. Giving the player something like a 10 days to prepare would both make this a bit easier and it would allow make some of the difficulties like growing clean grass underground simple to do.
A smart player would try to seal in as much clean resources as possible behind a 3 block thick dome before the 10th day.
This would also make it simpler to make the above ground structures as you would not have to find a way to decontaminate the room when the air trapped inside is clean.
Then it wouldn't be much of a challenge, would it?
Good idea, like the principle. Might have to give it a go on my next save. I was already in the middle of building a base inside a mountain (multiple sets of iron doors, smooth stone on all sides, etc) in my current spot, but I ran out of steam.
I've been thinking on a revised rule set. (Not Original Poster.)
Rule 7: You have a 5 day period before this apocalypse where you can prepare. Drops are legal, and the surface world is safe. This SHOULD allow for you to get the supplies needed to be safe when the apocalypse hits. Fair? Good.
Rule 8: Food from contaminated animals is OFF-limits, due to the radiation making it unedible even if severely washed.
Rule 9: Your walls MUST be atleast 3 blocks thick, with smoothstone on the first exterior layer.
Rule 10 (Optional.): Tree's on the outside produce radiated wood, making it impossible for you to harvest their bark, making getting a tree farm early on all the more important......
Hope you like the revisions, not mine once again, hope you enjoy them! Feedback appreciated. :biggrin.gif:
