Currently I have only finished a small part of the building so far, I think it's looking good so far but I would like to here other peoples opinions on it. Here's a couple of pictures of the current progress.
Currently what I need help with is figuring out a design for the windows of the building. There are 8 windows total and I plan to make each window have a different design made out of colored glass. The windows are 16 blocks tall and 6 blocks wide, here's a picture of how the window looks currently. If anyone has some suggestions for some I designs I would like to hear them.

Right now I have an idea of a building that I want to make but I'm having a little trouble deciding which blocks I want to make it out of. I was hoping I could get some opinions on some of the ideas that I came up with or get some ideas from other people. Currently I have almost nothing built because I need to figure out what blocks I'll need for it. Here's an idea of what part of it will look like.Currently the wall is made out of blue, light blue and magenta stained clay, if I stay with these colors I'll most likely add some purple in and make the roof out of either cyan or black stained clay. Another Idea that I though of was making the wall out of blue, magenta, purple and cyan stained clay with the roof being cyan, blue, or black stained clay.If you have any opinions on the wall or have any ideas for other blocks that could make it look better feel free to tell me.Moving on to the inside of the building, I was thinking of having the inside walls be made out of a mix of white and light blue stained clay but I'm open to new ideas for that also. I thought that the floor might look nice made out of either clay, qurtz or a mix of both. Tried out a few different ideas but I'm not sure if I like any of them yet. Some of them you can't really tell the difference between. The problem I'm having with the floor is later on once I have more of it built I plan on adding glass windows to the floor and have a lava pit underneath of them. So I'm having trouble coming up with a floor design that looks good and will work with having the windows in it.Sorry that I don't have too much built yet but it's hard to build it when I don't know what to make it out of. Currently all that's built is the front door of the building and a little bit of the floor. The buildings total size once it's done will be around 100x120 blocks wide and around 100 blocks at its tallest point.Another thing to remember is that I want to build around this once it's finished, so I would like it if it wasn't too hard to make the surrounding buildings go well with it once it's finished.Feel free to post your suggestions or ideas. Remember that this is being done in survival mode so don't suggest blocks that would be to hard to get a lot of.
For the floor, I like the 2nd and 5th pictures the best. (Picture #5 looks like sunlight streaming through the window to me) I would outline the glass floor windows with the darker floor color for contrast.
As for the rest, I like the shape of the arches. My personal preference would be to use something like stone brick for the frame of the building. Then use the stained clay to fill in the gaps. I think the stone brick looks more "sturdy" or something and you can use slabs and stairs to round out your windows even more. In my opinion, stone brick also seems to contrast well with most colors either light or dark.
Depending on how tall you make your structure, using a dark color on the inside of your roof can make it seem even taller. (Just my opinion) It seems to me that looking up to a black ceiling makes it look farther away and more mysterious than something bright like red. I suppose it depends on what you're going for here.
Please post a picture of your build once you've finished. I'm interested in seeing what you come up with.

I liked those two also, I figured the inside would be a bit to dark if I used something darker than that but wanted to see what people thought.

I might try that out but I'll have to see how it turns out, it might make the building seem a bit brighter than I want it to be if I end up using to much stone brick. I'll have to try out a little bit later and see how I like it.

Not sure if I'll need to make the inside look taller, most of the inside will probably be around 40-50 blocks tall with some parts reaching aroun 70 blocks tall.
I plan on posting pictures as I build more of it so that I can get opinions and ideas as I build it. Haven't built any more yet since I'm still working on making a large enough flat area to build it at. I think I'll do some more work on it in a couple of hours since I spent almost 12 hours with almost no breaks flattening the land for it.
Did a little bit more work on it today, currently the section I'm working on is getting close to being halfway done.
Personally I don't like the light blue too much, I might end up replacing it with stone bricks and seeing how they look. The side parts are a bit plain right now but once I finish them they should look more interesting. Currently running out of a lot of things, almost out a diamonds for shovels, almost out of clay blocks and out of lapis for coloring the blocks.
Been a couple of months since I've played Minecraft but I decided I wanted to try working on this some more now. I decided to change what blocks I'm using because it felt like the building was kind of boring looking to me, did I little bit of work on it with obsidian, coloured clay, coal blocks and the new coloured glass. Wanted to get some opinions on what you think about the new look.
Also need to work on digging out the area underneath of the building for when I work on building the lava lake underneath of the floor. Fortunately there's a large mineshaft underground which makes it so I don't have to mine as much. Currently I only have a little of the underground area mined out.
From the outside that looks really nice. I suspect, though, that those walls and roof will be too dark on the inside though. You'll need some lighter contrasts on the inside and not just the floor. Maybe some light-colored interior columns along the walls.

Worked a bit more on part of the design, might have to use somethingother than coal blocks for this part since can't tell them apart from the obsidian.
The one pillar that's still mising obsidian will be about 7 or 8 blocks taller. Most of the building won't be much higher than the pillar is going to be
Also are there any easier ways to farm squids other then just randomly swimming around in the ocean?

Yeah, I noticed that a little when I went to try building a small room in it. I'll most likely have a different wall for the inside of it. Just going to have some problems with rooms that are near the any of the windows.
Well, you look like you're already beyond my ability to make things looks nice, but I'll offer my meager suggestion anyways:
I'm a big fan of tile floors. I especially like alternating solid-stone blocks and solid-stone slabs. I did have a tile floor that alternated three colors of clay (the grey-dyed clay, I believe) that looked really good in my eyes. It alternated like this:
12121
31313
12121
31313
12121
I'd take a screenshot, but I can't at the moment.

Haven't done much work on it recently, was busy working on killing the ender dragon.
Anyways I thought I might try out replacing some of the coal blocks to make the building look a little less dark. So far I've only tried out some stone bricks, not sure what I think of it yet.
That looks good but maybe you should use something other than clay so you get a variety of textures.
Do you have any suggestiosns for what to use? I thought about trying out some of the new wood blocks but decided it was too risky because of how much lava is going to be around.
Edit: Tried out how the one section would look with iron bars and how it would look with just glass.
The color contrast from replacing the coal is good. The stone, however, tends to add a medieval flavor which may or may not be what you're looking for. Not sure if there are any alternatives, although the smooth facing you've gotten from the clay might go better with smoothstone.
PS The chest and furnace collection that snuck in the last shot is very appropriate. It says "working minecraft build!"

Well the obsidian adds a nice texture so I would say keep doing what you're doing.
The funny thing is you posted this five minutes after I had my first death on my world and it was while I was mining obsidian. After I get a new pick I plan on mining some more obsidian.

Gonna try out the smooth stone and see how it looks, also while I was mining in a mesa biome I figure I might try out some of the white and light gray clay that I found. Planning to have some screenshots up after I'm done afking at my zombie farm.
whenever building stuff in survival just find where lava and water meet underground and use the infinite cobblestone supply to fill in bits that don't need colour
Been a while since I've done work on this, anyways just did a little bit of work on it.
I'm going to need to come up with 8 different designs for the windows. If anyone wants to suggest any ideas for them the windows are around 16 blocks tall and 6 blocks wide.

In that case I should try to remember to also use this design when I get around to making a barn for my animals.
