I have a problem with my cannons, the arc is too low.
I've tried replacing the launch block with a cake, slab, full block, and my original slab was the best. Cake was the same. Adding more tnt (to the back) made the arc even flatter and the range lower. Taking out blocks in the back resulted in a slightly higher arc but dimished range. Maybe this is because the tnt jumps *away* from my propulsion tnt, but my propulsion tnt should jump forwards too. As of now, i can only get 200 ish blocks with 28 tnt, but increasing the arc should make that more.
hmmm... If we had a picture I could give you a specific solution, but if you need more arc, place the removed back TNT in the front, AKA have a shorter rail with more layers. That should solve your problem.

it shoots a triple tnt shell as it falls and makes it hit that layer of glowstone changing its direction and allows it to hit the ground before explosion :smile.gif:
the cannon if you are interested:
what do you think?
I like it! It seems to have a good spread pattern. what happens if you extend the cannon to launch a 5 shell shot?

i'd add more rails, but i'd need a delay and rewire all the redstone. this gets an arc of about 15 degreess

I don't know what kind of arc you are looking for, but changing to a full block launch system will make a 30 to 45 degree launch. It is a little complicated to get between 15 and 30 degrees (because of the lack of a 3/4 block). I would try detonating a fuel TNT in front of the Missile TNT to force the missile upwards a little bit.

I just completed my cannon its similar in design to Zirumhero's champion cannon but the wiring is probably completely different and its a bit fatter (I think) at the moment it supports 8 TNT in the engine per shot and shoots 2 TNT at a time and can be reloaded several times (I'd recomend only 4 times before getting rid of the sand)
Here is a video:
That looks awesome! I like the spread. Also, very clever with altering the TNT in mid flight with that platform. This would make for an excellent defensive cannon, Thanks for showing us your cannon!

Ok, today I built a wonderful vertical cannon without your help, but I wanted to make a smaller version with half amount of TNT and the shell was too low and destroyed this cannon. How can I build it smaller with the same range?
To improve TNT efficiency (use half the fuel TNT for the same range) you need to get the fuel TNT closer to the Missile TNT. One of 2 methods can compress the Fuel TNT.
Pre-explode some TNT and use its blast to compress the lit Fuel TNT
Or use pistons to compress the TNT.
Good luck with your Cannon, I would love to see a small hidden vertical cannon!

Im having some troubles with cannons and hoped someone could help me, I've looked around the web and forums and cant seem to find the answer.
I've built a 'standard' 9 block cannon, but I'm having issues with the tnt falling into the firing position. It seems fairly random as to when it works or not, sometimes its perfect, others 1 or 2 blocks will shift slightly to one side as they jump when armed, and as a result don't fall into the slot for them, instead lying on top of the cannon, exploding and taking everything apart. The same is true of the projectile itself, which sometimes goes into the slot and lands on the slab to be launched, but sometimes misaligns and sits on top the cannon.
I've tried all options I can think of to stop this, but it continues to work perfectly sometimes, and go haywire at others! Any advice would be appreciated!

The TNT blocks generally hop North-East (according to the sun) witch can set them on top of the cannon. What you need is a "guide rail" above the redstone to ensure the TNT stays straight. Usually just add another layer of and solid block above your redstone wire and you should be golden.

Since absolutely nobody I talk to can say my name right . . . DOH-mee-SHun!!!
Anyhow this is my latest cannon. If anyone has a good name for it that would be great but for now it is the TacCan
The canon fires two TNT shells supported by a 11T engine. The shells go where the glowstones are. The design is somewhat like the Jolly Creeper with the three 'engine' TNT in a line style.
The current max range is about ~220 blocks, the dimensions are 13x8x7 (LxWxH). It is also a same plane cannon. I'll post more if people are interested.
Wow, haven't checked this thread in a long time since all my MC time is spent modding now. It looks like some people are still using my rangefinding world (did someone ever fix the file corruption on that?).
All the links on the OP that pointed to the original alpha thread are down :sad.gif: .

Eh, I am still using it but I got junk all over the world now after over half a year...
Like all TNT cannons, this was built more for fun than for any real purpose. However, this cannon does have an advantage over normal TNT cannons: aiming. The advantage over Ethoslab's 360 cannon is simplicity.
Note:
[I have smooth lighting off for 2 reasons- easier to count blocks, and I'm used to this way. The texture pack is Nostalgiacraft, I like the old textures.]
With very little training, you can consistently aim this cannon up to 50 degrees left/right, depending on the direction it is facing. Let's begin.
First, start out with a 9 by 4 base.
Next, bring up a 1-high wall around 3 sides of the cannon base. Add 2 half-slabs onto the front, and place 2 water source blocks in the back.
This step is a bit longer than the others, but it's simple. Cover the 1 block high ledge in redstone, then make a layer above it and cover that, except for the frontmost block. Replace that with glass.
Add 2 glass blocks in at the back as well. Don't forget the buttons!
Next, we start on the timer to ignite the projectile. Make the path as shown:
Add 8 repeaters to it, each on setting 4. This ensures that the TNT detonates exactly as it hits the ground. Add redstone as shown:
Now we load it! Lets start out with the cannon firing straight. The loading process for this is slightly different in that you skip the middle row:
Next, do the top row and the projectiles:
Here's the view from the firing location.
By this point, you're certainly wondering, "Okay, how do I aim this?"
You do that by only loading certain sides of the cannon, and choosing which side to place the projectile in. If you're shooting straight, place both projectiles for a larger blast radius.
Here's a final view:

hey all!
it seems that there will be dragons soon in minecraft, and it seems that they will also be very powerful.
so, i thought that we should try making a cannon that would be able to kill them, to defend our castles against them.
because all our cannons are made to kill ground units, we never tried killing air units with cannons (except there is an anti-ghast cannon)
anyone up to such challenge?

However the dragon will tear through any blocks...that might be a problem.
