So today on my singleplayer world I found a slime chunk and I cleared out a 16x16x3 area at 5 blocks above bedrock for the slimes to spawn. Yet they don't seem to be spawning. I was wondering if I have to stand a certain distance away for the slimes to spawn or if there's a certain condition that the spawning room has to be in? Thanks.
PS. I know at least someone's gonna say "just find a swamp", but this slime chunk is under my house and it would be a lot more convenient to have a slime farm under my house.

Slimes have a rarer chance to spawn that most mobs and because your area for them is spawn is relatively small in relation to the amount of spawning spaces in nearby chunks around you it isn't very likely for them to be constantly spawning there. If you light up all of the caves in a 128 block radius around your house and the lands above it will increase the chance for slimes to spawn in your farm. You could also add more layers to the slime farm up to Y: 40 to get more slimes spawning. Finally, make sure that you aren't within 24 blocks of the slime farm area or else slimes or any other hostile monster won't spawn.

I've never found that answer very satisfying, either. You can't really "farm" them in swamps, because there, they share the same spawning conditions with everything else (specifically the lightning thing. Slimes in swamps still have to spawn in the dark, and if it's dark enough for a slime to spawn, then it's dark enough for a creeper, for example, to spawn as well. You could make the spawning floor with only a 1-block clearance but then you'd restrict it to only tiny slimes being able to spawn, horribly reducing your rates.) On the other hand, slimes can spawn in full light in the slime chunks, so you can just light it up and prevent anything else from spawning, ensuring you only get slimes in your trap. I've never gotten around to building a slime farm in my world, yet, but I do plan to do so eventually, and I plan to use a slime chunk. "Hunting" them in the swamps isn't really my cup of tea...
(Not that I need a slime farm in my world. I have so many slime balls just from clearing them out of the abandoned mineshaft below my base that I've thrown out stacks of the things, already. But then again, this is Minecraft. We don't do anything because we need to do it...)

Thank you very much. I think I heard slime spawning isn't effected by light in slime chunks, am I right?
Edit: The second I clicked post ironmagus's post came up xD
My first slime just spawned. And its a big one too . Thanks for the information guys! It really helped.

Couldn't have said it better myself

You think magic isn't real? Consider this: for every person, there is a sentence -- a series of words -- which has the power to destroy them.
