It's GOLD not budder (which is a drug if you were unaware).
Diamond or GOLD. Diamond is great for tools and if I get enough GOLD I can make the Tower of Pimps

My favorite is nether quartz. It has a nice texture, is used to make multiple redstone items, and gives a ton of exp when mined. Also, as I'm sure you are aware of now, it's called gold, not "budder".

I don't know why but when I find lapis I feel as good as when I find a diamond, even though I don't even use lapis. It just looks nice, it has a different texture and I like it.
Iron.
Also, don't call gold "budder" if you don't want to start a flame war. I like watching Sky, yet still hate the fact he calls gold "budder".
Edit : Just read the thread about why you shouldn't call gold "budder". Well... that's weird. I... agh, nevermind.
Butter is a milk product, not a mineral, I think gold was the intended word. But any way, mine would be a contest between iron and diamond. I use both a lot and have pretty good stockpiles of them too.
GOLD, not "budder."
But I'm going to have to go with iron, it's the key element to getting diamonds and is used most frequently in crafting recipes (out of the other minerals, not counting redstone. )
Off topic: Looks like this OP just walked up to an aquarium full of squids and started poking the glass...
On Topic: I like Iron a tad bit more than diamond. It's a pretty common ore for tools and armor. I tend to use diamond for more special cases, like enchanted weapons, picks, or items made from diamond. I generally follow the rule of "armor out of iron, weapons out of enchanted diamond".
My favorite mineral? Hmm. I do like diamonds, because of the fact that they last longest, but if you were to get Unbreaking III on an iron tool of the same type, it would last just as long, if not longer. Gold (not budder, whatever that is) doesn last very long, but is the shiniest, but that's just for aesthetics. Emerald is extremely rare and extremely useless (unless you have a villager trading station for both cases) and silverfis can spawn in the biome they're found in, so probably not emerald. Lapis lazuli? Pffft. Don't even get me started. I would probably says iron for amount of uses, diamond for durability.

Why squid army?

You think magic isn't real? Consider this: for every person, there is a sentence -- a series of words -- which has the power to destroy them.
Also, assuming you mean ore instead of mineral, my favorite is Lapiz Lazuli. It's a nice aesthetic block that looks really great as a floor.
Mine would be emeralds because I really like green, and they're hard to find \o/
