Forum viewers! Well, I've just mined enough Obsidian on my mining grounds and I made a Nether Portal, I could hear all the weird sounds when I get close to the portal and it kinda freaks me out. :blink.gif:
You see, this is my first time entering the portal, so, How Do I Prepare Myself? do I need to bring plenty of food? Several swords? An iron or a diamond pick? 2 stacks of armor? Do I have to do something before I go to the Nether? I can't really decide and my mind is messed up! I really need some help :tongue.gif:
And please, if you also have tips on how to survive in the Nether and not to get lost I would be happy to read it, and I don't mind TLDR comments if you will ever post one
Anyway, please help me! For I can't wait to enter the portal, thanks for reading!
Well, seeing how your going to the nether, and you can easily die you should bring the following items:
Full stone tools 1010-20 obsidian
64 dirt
1 flint/steel
full leather armor
2 buckets of water
3 additional pickaxes with the stone tools
The obsidian creates a back up nether portal, the dirt to travel over big caves, flint and steel to light/relight your nether portal, buckets of water to kill blazes, and pickaxes to mine through nether fortresses.
OP: as long as you dont mess with the pigmen you are for the most part fine, blazes, lava, and ghasts are the only other things to worry about, good luck :happy.gif:
Well I consider bringing 1 stack of melons if possible if not maybe bread and if its your first time I consider bring the armor just 1 set,try torches in the nether its dark and may help you get back to your portal, your portal you should make a base for it cobblestone or better is good ghast can blow portals up but cant break cobble and iron picks are ok stone too,and you should also bring a bow and a couple of arrows to fight ghasts and blazemen or blaze.Oh and beware of magma cubes which are like slimes but magma and stronger.
OP: as long as you dont mess with the pigmen you are for the most part fine, blazes, lava, and ghasts are the only other things to worry about, good luck :happy.gif:
Yeah, me and about five of my friends went nether venturing once, and found a blaze spawner. Water+Blaze=Profit

Alright, thanks for the tip :tongue.gif:, but are there any important things a pigman drops when they die? Or is it just useless rotten flesh?
Bucket of water don't work.
And you need LOTS of cobblestone because ghast can't destroy it.
EDIT:Pigmans drops gold nugets.
workbench and chest is useful.
(make base WITHOUT BED made out of cobblestone near portal)

Useless flesh, but they also drop gold nuggets, get nine of those and you can get a gold bar when grafted together, but get situated first, then maybe make a trap for them, thats always fun :tongue.gif:
All you need is diamond armor, iron sword, bow, some wood for crafting,2 full stacks of arrows, diamond pickaxe,a chest and some cobble for a temporary base.
Food wont be a problem since there are zombie pigmen.
After getting stuff in the nether go find a stronghold or brew poitons or enchant stuff.

Don't even go NEAR the pigmen! they only drop cooked porkchop and gold nuggets. (you can get gold nuggets by placing 1 gold ingot in any slot in a crafting table) Which you can get easily from the overworld.
And if you attack them, every pigmen in 32 blocks will become aggressive and swarm you! They're really fast and do A LOT of damage!

Small guide:
When going through DO NOT MOVE!
Hold shift and make sure your on solid ground, not over lava lakes., after that make a small hut of cobblestone, then proceed placing crafting stations down, put some flint and steel in a chest with some spare tooks and resources (like saplings, dirt, some extra cobble) dont bring anything diamond-y in there, its not needed.
Make sure to have enough obsidian for a back up.
For markers, place cobblestone as like a breadcrumb trail.
Also, dont hit the pigmen, kill ghasts with arrows or deflect there own fireballs, dont destroy blaze spawners.
Make sure you have some survival kit though, and enough food, make frequent trips back to base with glowstone, netherach, soulsand.
After that, setup a little tree farm and some wheat (doesnt need water) and when you've got netherwart make a farm ( just place it on soulsand)
For more advanced, make a XP grinder out of blaze.
Thanks! But, how do I find soulsand, is it near Nether Fortresses? Do you find it in lower layers or higher ones? Damn, I sound like a noob, sorry for that D:

soulsand is located randomly around the nether in patches, but in the nether fortress there is ususally a nether wart farm, with some soulsand, that will get you started on a nether wart farm :wub.gif:

-bring cobblestone. plenty of it ( lets say.. 5 full stacks?) you need them to build a house around your portal to prevent it from being deactivated by ghasts
-sword (iron or better) you need these to fend yourself if you accidentally agitate some pigmen or if magma cubes start attacking you (you could also use swords to deflect ghast fireballs)
-bow (and arrows) you will need these to fight off ghasts and blazes
-armour (iron or better) so you can fight of zombie pigmen
-food (of course) bring some food! porkchops, steak, chicken, zombie flesh whatever! just bring food!
-chest (storage) this could be used to store things you obtain in the nether (nethercrack, soulsand)and to store your essentials.
-pickaxe! you will need this to mine nethercrack and netherbricks (if you find a netherstronghold)
A bow for ghasts and blazes(unless you can't shoot straight)
Arrows
Multiple iron swords. (If you die you'll lose the diamond.)
A completely new set of armor
Buckets (for getting lava)
Multiple shovels and pickaxes (don't get your best since you might be slain)
Cooked food
Cobble stone if you're going to make a base. (I would suggest this if there aren't many Hostile mobs near you at the moment. Be sure to make it near the portal.)
Flint and Steel (Not to make a portal, but instead maybe a line of beacons to guide yourself back to the portal.)
What NOT to bring:
10 obsidian (Don't make a portal while inside the Nether. I did it once and I teleported 1000 km away. No Joke! It took me days to get back! And I consider myself lucky!)
Diamond of any kind (unless your stupid you probably wouldn't want to lose your diamond collection.)

If I ever die of some tragic event that includes losing various limbs, my last words will be "Niblets, Wiggle them."
DON'T USE DIAMOND ARMORSET/TOOLSET
Iron is good replacement.

Don't bother bringing torches. You can just light the netherrack on fire for light. Don't worry, it won't spread.
