Notch doesn't make the sounds and don't worry. C418 send him a bunch of new sounds. It's in the stickied discussion page of 1.8, but I'll post the list here:
Great ... a reason to shut off my sounds. WTF? The existing sounds were fine, except for the rain... it should be removed.
I actually liked the rain sound. I guess the sound itself wasn't that great but it added ambient noise. There is a massive lack of ambient noise in minecraft. Rafe's post has good ideas, cave dripping sounds, if done right, would be really good. If done not so good they could just make the paranoia worse lol.
Things like bird or insect noises, and wind gusting through leaves noises. Perhaps wind could be another weather feature, where sometimes it is windy. In caves I can think of water dripping and better running water noises. In deserts wind could be the "howling wind" noise, maybe even sandstorms which inhibit vision (rare like thunder storms)?
But what then if your clothes and backpack gets all wet :ohmy.gif: just like, you got 5 stacks of cobblestone, then when you're finished running 'round, you got 5 stacks of water :ohmy.gif: neh but just kidding, is this really that much fun? For a thread to be created? Seriously if running around in minecraft rain brings you joy, you should seriously try to find a green mushroom with white dots to get a life.
I don't see what the problem is. The rain in MC isn't a nice polite little shower, its a torrential downpour. It sounds just like what it is.
(Have you seen the size of those raindrops???)

It's also not a sideways storm. No rain sounds like that in real life so don't tell us it sounds like it should. It's painful to hear, nothing that is going to take more than 1 minute should be so painful to hear in a game.
this is soooo nice... i love it.... sadly im not really down for running this while on minecraft. either way this sounds real nice might use this to sleep with cause im starting to get a bit tired.

You must not get that many rain storms then. A lot of storms around here sound like they do in MC (high audio quality obviously though)

i've been outside a lot when it rains, but the sound has never been so annoying and high that it's annoying, and it hurts my ears...

If only we had cave water dripping

Maybe random gusts of wind

Thats what I was thinking lol

What?
Have you ever been in a rainstorm?
Your speakers must be broken or something. Pain is the last thing I think of.
Ah well, I just mute it when it rains, not that hard, and be more aware of creepers.
