No. They are make-believe animals in a make-believe world
If killing animals for fun is cruel, don't you think breeding animals with their parents only to kill the parents and later on make the offspring breed with eachother?
It Is cruel but sometimes you just have to. Or you just want to waste your diamond sword and get meat while doing it.
On the other hand, you have to kill squids
Well yes, for fun, but at the same time, they're just pixels controlled by lines of text, it's more cruel when you kill an animal in real life, it feels pain as it dies, whereas minecraft mobs don't.
No. They are numbers in my computer and glowing shapes on my computer screen, not real animals.
I also don't think it's cruel to kill sentient beings in just about every other computer game ever written, either. Same reason: they're not real, they're just data on a computer.
I'd be concerned about someone who had difficulty separating real things and imaginary ones.
The only thing that bothers me is when, after hatching a bunch of chicks from eggs, I then bash the mommies for some meat while the kids balefully stare at me with their little 'chick' eyes.
Then again, I'm not one to really believe that hamburger only 'comes' from a plastic tray at the grocers. I do know the true story.
Depends. If I only kill half, 1/4, or 3/4 of an animal pack (because usually passive mobs are in groups/packs), I'll be fine. But if I kill ALL of the animals in a somewhat kind of group, I'll feel guilty...
If I'm on a roleplay server then yeah I try not to do it too much, but on a specific Dragon Block C server I play on it can be creepy pleasure to fire laser beams at everything in sight.
You are a minecrafter on a whole nother level, my friend
Back when all villagers got converted to zombies when attacked, my buddy had an infinite villager breeder and a zombie spawner... using these two things he created a farm that you could actually farm Villagers for experience
I'd be concerned about someone who had difficulty separating real things and imaginary ones.
Pretty much this.
Granted, I don't usually kill the passive mobs unless I need their drops or they pose a hazard--like a sheep dancing around me while I hang over the edge of a ravine--but that's just resource management.
I can already see it. Studies proving that killing animals for thrill in Minecraft makes you more prone to developing hostile and harmful behavior towards real-life animals and humans as the condition sinks in. This game is gonna get banned from stores in a couple years' time, trust me.
I'm dead serious on this one.
This game is going to get someone killed. Look what it did to Notch, he's just ounces away from dying of obesity and mental insanity.
Please for the love of god… never ever .. ever.. play grand theft auto ... please.

No. Why would I? I usually only kill them when I need their resources, mainly because I don't feel like wasting time killing an animal for no reason, and because I like to preserve them for farming later on.

Kinda sick now that you think about it, huh?
