No water biome plants, mobs or anything other than water
Why this insistence that oceans/rivers etc; are all empty and have nothing to offer? Why this resistence to creating fun and interesting water biomes?
What can I do to get an implied/promised feature (that actually had something to do with my buying the game in the first place) actually implemented?
What is the reason Jeb has to justify this? Water is an important part of the world, plus it has potential to be interesting and this update was specifically about updating and improving biomes.
One thing I can assure you of: plenty of players that bought that game based on the potential to explore interesting worlds are thouroughly upset by this wasted oppurtunity
Even after a pre-release. People still complain.
Oceans were not promised to have life in them. And what are you looking at an ocean in real life any way? Water and Rocks, sure the Minecraft ocean has no fish models but it has fish in it. ( Like Kingz said )

People need to learn this lesson... Just because you WANT a feature does not mean it is IMPLIED and does not mean it is PROMISED. So just because you want a feature, do no assume it will be added because you want it. That is a fallacious and rather stupid thing to do.

Uh....ok
I bought this game based on potential to explore the limitless, vast world and......I'm cool with it.
Sure, I'd like to see some more play on ocean environments, maybe some sort of danger like any other parts of the world. But it's not some "insulting" factor. I find it kind of silly to be so offended by the developers' decisions. Or are you on their team? Are you the one that plans update content?
(That being said, drastic changes always make me throw my hands up in frustration. So many changes when all I want to do is stick with a single SSP world but it always ends with me just starting over.)

"Wow, nice beard bro..."
"Yeah, it's made of AWESOMENESS!"
What do you see when you gaze out into the ocean? Water. What's in a river? Water and rocks.
What do you see when you look out at the plains? Grass. No, you don't see any mobs. Yet, there are mobs in the Minecraft plains. Why? Because that is what the game is about: a fun, living world to explore. Plus, take a glance underwater and tell me it's just water and rocks. Without lying. Go ahead, make my day man.

Can you tell me what was promised that is in the game? Oh right, Notch promising something and something being a good (and implied, simply by the existence of oceans/mobs etc;) feature are not the same thing. Plus he actually did claim to be working on living fish mobs. More biomes were never promised, but it was a great feature. Why do you think that ocean biomes not being explcicitly promised as an upcoming feature somehow makes it not a bad thing that it wasn't an included feature? You want to know what was promised? Game improvements. What about water biomes is not an improvement? What about not having water biomes is not lame?

Nobody ever suggested this in this thread at all, a good feature that fits with the theme of an update being added is not a crazy concept. Plus, Notch promised living fish years ago.
Well, I can see too many of you are more concerned with "looking like true fans" than you are with actually enjoying and improving the game. Just a bit of adivce, ignoring a flaw in something just to fit in with it's fans doesn't make you some sort of hero in the eyes of Mojang
Living fish were in fact promised by Notch years ago

Lol, I love it when kids like you come to the forums. You said in your post that mobs and plants for oceans were "implied" and "promised." I will give you that a fish mob was promised, but that was a promise of one single mob. Your only line of thinking for why the rest were "implied" or "promised" is that you thought it would be a cool feature and you expected it to be in when you bought the game. That goes back to my post about how because you like the idea of the feature you felt it was going to be added, and now that it hasn't as of yet, you feel cheated when you really shouldn't. Is the idea of improving ocean biomes a good one? Yes, they need improvements. But does it being a good idea mean it is 100% going to be implemented? No, especially when you take into account that whether or not an idea is "good" is a subjective subject, so while you may think an idea is good or fun, Mojang or others might not, so just because you think something would be a fun idea does not mean everyone agrees and does not mean it will be added.

i think oceans n rivers ARE meant to be boring. i'm ok with the oceans becuase they simulate the real world too. Anyway, what would u like to add to the oceans?
"Living fish were in fact promised by Notch years ago" < squids
also notch no longer even works on the game you can kiss anything he ever promised goodbye im 90% sure

Wow you are using words that make no sense. You know what else was promised? Coral but Notch said it was to hard to make. I have no idea what you are trying to say. Not everything they say goes into the game, red dragons? Lolnope. Please make this easier to read.

Barstar. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on update 1.7. Let's be patient. I think we will see most of what you want in future updates. I think at this point it is important not to give the impression of being nasty to other fellow forum members. Sometimes opinions can give the wrong impressions.

and visible fish and treasure chests and junk and gold... It would add some flavor to rivers if they added small ore deposits underneath the sand in the rivers. In Oceans there could be countless things. Sunken cities and temples, treasure chests (again) ships, Kelp lots of visible fish and I know they already added "Deep Ocean" But I would like to see a truly deep black Ocean where you cant see the bottom or at least areas in deep oceans that spawn massive MASSIVE trenches, like the marianas trench or whatever its called... They can do a WHOLE lot with water biomes... Also, I know its a mod already but they should bring finite water back as an option.

In the Halloween Update, Notch said he would add fish as a sea creature;[1] however, he had limited time, and was thus only able to add them as an item.
Dude it's ok. I would like some sea life or some underwater coolness, but you don't have to hate on mojang for it. They will get to that soon.
Quote from Jens bergensten (Jeb) »
There have been three main problems we have wanted to address:
Too large oceans
Too uneven/random biome placement
Not enough variation
The solution to these problems have been,
Tweaks to add more islands and checks to avoid huge oceans
Biomes have been put into four main categories: snow-covered, cold, medium, and dry/warm.
Biomes will avoid getting placed next to a biome that is too different to itself (sometimes this still happens, but it’s very rare now and not all over the place)
We’ve added a whole bunch of new biomes…
… and most biomes have uncommon/rare variations that you may run into
We’ve also added a bunch of new terrain features, such as new flowers and trees
As you can see it says nowhere that they were going make underwater life or better ocean biomes.

Am I the only one who thinks that people who complain have WAY too much time on their hands. It's a game. They are under no obligation to update it, to add new features based on popular mods, no obligation to make modding easier, no obligation to make customization of visuals easier (resource packs), and under no obligation to bow to everyone's whims. The best thing about Minecraft is that you can play it to your own liking. The creators have given options to have mobs/no mobs, cheat/no cheat, and added NPC villages to have useless (most of the time) trades with. I think if I had to put up with the complaints everytime I added or fixed things in a game I would quit making the game. Too many complainers on the forum are writing "I wanted", "I expected":, "I was promised", and the answers are all the same: If you don't like the game as it is provided then either mod it yourself or STOP PLAYING. No one if forcing anyone to play a game. If the game was purchased before this update then you have already recieved what you paid for. Any updates are freebies and people should not complain. How about Minecraft go like Microsoft and charge you for the update when a new version comes out? Would people like that better? I know I wouldn't. Minecraft is a cool game and has tons of potential because they allow it to be customized. Be happy with what you have.

Baseball, then Minecraft.
And plants, fish, actual currents, water flows from high points to low points to the ocean...
