1) The video says that the kid played Minecraft "everyday for about an hour". If that small time spent on a video game could cause adverse psychological effects, I'm sure the majority of people on these forums would be pretty messed up by now =P
2) The kid didn't bring any weapons related to minecraft whatsoever, so blaming his actions on Minecraft is sheer ignorance on the parent's part.
Just because MAJORITY of crime rates fell down doesn't mean they don't still happen because of Call of Duty, and there are likely plenty of bad acts related to Call of Duty that do NOT get in trouble with the law. Yes, it seems Call of Duty brought people into less heinous acts, but they still do things the law doesn't care about but are still bad.
Both lines in the graph could be ENTIRELY unrelated.
guys bad news a Satie site has posted the minecraft blame they may attack this site so watch out.
Could you please explain that so that people who don't know what you're talking about ... well, will know what you're talking about, and what to expect?
What is a "Satie site"? In what way do they (the owners? the users?) attack sites? Why would they target these forums? Is this something that should be brought to the attention of the forum admins?
I'm just going to throw out another theory about the lack of icepicks that isn't quite as...nefarious(?).
Maybe they don't sell ice picks anymore because they don't sell blocks of ice any more.
A somewhat valid point although block ice is still available if you look for it hard enough. And I suppose the same is true of icepicks. I'm guessing you've never bought a bag of cubed ice at the store and then been caught in traffic on the way home. That bag of little individual cubes can become a block of ice... especially if you happen to live in a place like I do where the temperature can nearly reach that of the surface of the sun. Arizona can be a very unforgiving place. But I digress... I realize that maybe icepicks were a poor analogy but the point remains. Blame is distributed based on the politics/agenda/religious beliefs of the blamer and more often than not the intent is at the very least misguided.
So some kid brings a gun, a hammer and a knife into school, and it gets blamed on. Game which doesn't have guns, hammers, or knives. Sounds like ignorance and a refusal to accept responsibility for leaving a gun lying around where their nine year old kid could find it and kill themselves. And how did they get the gun to school without anyone knowing? Did the parents want him to take it? I think they gave him cod or something and are too embaressed to admit it. So they play it on an innocent sandbox game.
I'd probably get into trouble for saying what I want to about this, so I'll just cut out the details and say this: it's really easy to bring dangerous items into public schools. (I don't know that from personal experience, but I have seen it happen.)
Insane people always have something to blame it on. Like the dark knight rises theatre showing, the guy who shot everybody said that he was "the joker" This was not minecraft's fault
It wouldn't be easy if the access to dangerous items was regulated strictly :/ Like, why would a civilian need a weapon of any kind in the first place?
Wouldn't need weapons for self-defense if weapons were illegal in the first place. Just look at Iceland or Denmark, weapons are illegal and people are not even locking their doors at night. On Iceland there are only 700 police officers and none of them are armed.
Too bad guns has been legal in the US for so many years now that everyone got one, so if it was made illegal it would take decades before no civilians owned arms without special permissions (Like for hunting).
I agree with you, Guns should be illegal. Period.
I thought you where talking about the knives and hammer that the kid also where brought to school.
In times that I have visited I have witnessed 1 shooting, (back in 07) and have never gone back in fear.

I live in Australia. Not 100% sure what the laws says.
Someone in my family has guns (not saying who) and they keep them locked up and said the police come and check to make sure people can't get into them sometimes. I've seen so much on the news about gun shootings in the USA and it does not want me (or many other people around the world) to go the USA. The shootings and the bombings always get to our news. Here you must have a license to have guns and they must do security checks on you. And like a said the police may visit. And I don't think you can have the guns in public (like a shopping centre).
On another the news is more violent than minecraft.
I think we should not allow this discussion to turn into a philosophical debate about what is a weapon, who should be allowed to have one, and whether the use of weapons is a cause or an effect of a violent temperament. We're talking about a specific situation involving a specific court case, a specific kid, and even, from what I could see on the video, a specific edition of Minecraft. For the sake of not getting into a flamewar, let's keep it there.
Their is a thing called Peaceful mode still right? And here is the thing, the guns and stuff are NOT in vanilla MC. In all, this is about the parents fault. Because how does a 9 year old have access to a handgun and bullets? Just lying around? As for the 1 hour thing, I highly doubt that. Probably for hours on end. Oh, and here is another "shocker", you might not be sane if you think that it is ok to brings weapons into school.
I was 9 once, just like that kid. I played cartoon-type games just like that. I knew that it was a bad idea to bring weapons to school and bring your virtual reality into the real world. If I was a adult of this child, I would cut video games cold turkey on him. Only until he is 16 and then I might consider, but then again, he could just go play on a PC if he can. :/
Most of us seem to forget something here: These days its easier to blame a their childrens violent behaviour on games/movies/misc then take the blame themself. Its easier to says your child got violent from a computer game then admit you we're being a bad parent by constantly having strict rules and the like.
According to wikipedia Hitler became the mentally unstable dictator he was because his father was strict and regularly beat him. If parents don't let their kids loosen up and play the games they like without strict rules then we'll have mentally unstable murdering reincarnations of Hitler running around our country.
