How long do you think minecraft will last? Do you think It Will ever lose its popularity? Take The Year 3030, do you think minecraft will still be updating? Or Will Everyone Forget about it.
[EDIT] I noticed that 3030 is a way to far in the future. lets say 2025
By 3030? Well, most of us will probably be dead. Technology will advance but who knows how much? Maybe it could just be Minecraft without lag on the best render distance with shader graphics at default, or maybe even a Virtual Reality simulator where you get "survive", like kinect, but better detection with survival games.
By 3030 I can guarantee Earth is gonna be a desert-like wasteland, so if Minecraft is still in development by the son of the son of the son of the son of the son of the son of the son of the son of the son of the son of Notch or Jeb, they'll probably be more busy shooting bandit vehicles than programming.

Minecraft will lose its luster the same time Lego's does... which is never!

I think it's fair to say that as long as there is a technological civilization that can trace its roots back to this moment, then it's a pretty safe assumption that there's going to be something that can similarly trace its roots back to Minecraft.
Also, talking about the year 3030 is preposterous. The fact of the matter is that making predictions beyond pretty much five years into the future is futility in the year 2013. Things are moving far too fast. Virtually nobody on the planet has enough information to make coherent guesses about that.
But on the scale of the next three to five years, will there be a thing called Mojang and will it still be putting out updates? And will the modding community continue to grow---and the symbiosis between that community, the users, and the original developers continue to become more robust? Now that is an interesting question.

Minecraft will probably last for a long while. Not until the year 3030 though, we would have way more advanced technology and most of us would be dead by that time.

pretty much what everyone said in this thread.
lol, I love the optimism in this statement. Here, let me help:
Everytime I see a topic like this I think back to games that are old but are still played til this day. Minecraft of course will be played for as long as possible, Mojang are still doing their job with bringing updates and such, and it will continue on for a while. I can't really think of how long it will last though, perhaps forever haha or until a better game takes its place some how.
Well, minecraft is a pretty unique game. It is hard for another one to take it's place, unlike other games, such as CoD, where there can be many replacements, so I think it will last as long as until someone makes a better concept, or the sandbox-like concept dies out.

Minecraft could implode from all the updates. Some people could get tired of the overly detailed gameplay or an offshoot of Minecraft could divert the focus of online gaming.

And I think the answer is yes.

Only thing I feel hyped for these days.

"MOST OF US would be dead by [3030]"
Very much so, nirvam. Please stop the millions of these.

I think it will last for a long time considering that they're selling a copy every 1.75 seconds.
Useless things, the concept of our minds.
*facepalm*
C'mon dude, maybe, 20 years is reasonable but 1017.. *sigh*
