I would love to know what the best level is to enchant JUST a infinity bow. I have been trying lvl 30 enchants for a while and I figure it isn't the quickest method. Thanks for any help!
It's gonna be pretty tough to get just Infinity on a bow. As the level cost goes up, the chances of getting infinity do go up, but so do the chances of getting multiple enchantments. The table below shows percentages based on data collected from one million trials per level (culled from the spreadsheet on the wiki's Enchantment Mechanics page):
As you can see, any level which gives you a particularly good chance at exactly one enchantment, also has little or no chance for that enchantment to be Infinity. Any way you choose to go about it, you're probably going to have to try several times. By multiplying the probabilities together, I find that anywhere from level 20 on up is about the same, at approximately 8 or 9%. It looks like the absolute best bet is level 22 at roughly 9.26%.
Just enchant a book until you get an infinity enchantment then merge it with your bow using the anvil.
The problem with that is that getting Infinity on a book is even more rare than getting it by itself on a bow, by about a factor of 10. Even at level 30, there's still only a 1.2% chance of getting Infinity. This is because books can receive any enchant for any item, while items themselves can only receive enchants from their particular "class" (i.e. bow enchantments on bows, tool enchantments on tools, etc.)

Thanks a ton! Definitely the best answer I've ever seen.

Ah, that makes more sense, I must have been really lucky then.

You think magic isn't real? Consider this: for every person, there is a sentence -- a series of words -- which has the power to destroy them.

I got my first (and so far, only) silk touch book from a villager librarian in my trading/breeding system.
