Hello, everyone. Today I would like to talk about the subject of criminal justice.
To all the admins and ex-admins out there, what are some of your favorite methods of punishing ne'er do wells and general bad guys? Personally, I have enjoyed shoving them in a second, inescapable Nether I call "The World of Hurt", but I'd love to hear some other ideas.
Ifnits their first strike, I jail them...but they get to keep all their stuff and the only way out is though a very challenging parkour course. If they fall in lava they die and lose their stuff. The second and third strike is a kick, the 4th though 6th strikes are temp bans, and the final, 7th strike is a permaban, courtesy of the ban hammer.

I preferred to judge on severity. If they were just really rude, they get a blindness or something else removable. If they attack other players or grief, they get put in a world of Hurt. Hacking is just a boring ol permaban, excluding xrayers who were stuffed in the World of Hurt as well since they were unable to mine there anyway. I'm thinking of reopening my old server soon, and I wanted to have new ideas for punishments. My brother and I like the idea of jailing them in a big fish tank and giving them water-breathing and night-vision. Already have the tank built and everything, and I plan to have it by my sleeping quarters in my home when I get it started.
Is this too extreme, to turn players into decorations until they ragequit? I wouldn't do it to nice rule-breakers.

It depends on the severity of it. I'm ok with minor swear words, grinding is allowed (except to server property), but if it involves hacking/racial or slurs against anyone they get perma'd.
That fish tank sounds like a good idea, just make sure no noobs can fall in it. I did that once, the jail had a pressure plate on the outside. I had to wait a good 15 minutes before my friend bailed me out. Now the jail has no pressure plates.

It's the thought that counts, like attempted murder.
I like putting nausea and Blindness on them, and then disguising as a creeper and following them around for a bit.
Or, I have something called the "ImpossiParkour" where halfway through the course you step on a pressure plate that retracts the blocks in front of and behind you, making them have to fall and die.

Ever hear of something called running away? Its like running towards them, but without the confrontation and death.
If they glitch with blocks,I toss posion potions at them in vanish. If they hack, I will fill their house with silverfish, empty half their chests, and make them rage.
After they rage as much as they possibly can, I just ban him to add insult to injury. Hackers beware.

I had another idea when I found a plugin that lets you place fake players.
Make a prison full of players who have been banned, with names and descriptions in front of their cells.
Oh don't worry, it comes with a lid and filter as well as a little decorative castle, plants, and a treasure chest with a dispenser below that drops a random item inside every day (daylight sensor) to hopefully keep players from getting TOO bored and leaving fast.
Also, what about the idea of just simply muting them and setting them to adventure mode to live as adventurers?
In my old server we'd just dump them on a continent with zero resourses for food and had their spawnpoints changed to this immense and endless desert. After that theyd be banned.
If I ran a server, my punishment (for mild offenders) would be to teleport them into a cage at spawn, with a lever just outside which, when flicked, dumps them in lava. After a few IRL days, I would let them free, but if one single personwanted them dead before then, they would just flip the lever.
Oh but there is! Hackers, who should just be perma'd immediately in my opinion before they cause harm, aside, tempbans could easily be replaced by prison time or time wandering the world in adventure mode, vulnerable to attack (or simply being buried) by other players. My friend keeps telling me we should have an arena they must finish challenges in in order to return to the world unbanned. This brings me to another idea that makes me need to ask a question to you guys:
Any of you guys know of a plugin that can set certain players to hardcore and not the entire world? It'd be an interesting way to give players who violently bend rules and disrespect others "trials".

Oh yeah, I almost forgot. When you spawn on my server you look down at the jailed players. Just as a little reminder not to break the rules
(Though I might /effect <<user>> 20 100 100 if it's not too severe.)

Haha, that sounds evil! Sadly, I can't imagine managing to gather 24 rule breakers at once. Maybe if I advertised on PMC...
