HI guys! I'm planning to start playing on a faction server created by some friends at school, but I have one huge problem. I don't know how to fight in PVP situations! Normally, I don't usually partake in PVP fights, but on this server, I will have no choice. So, I'm asking for advice from all of you PVP pros. Can you give me any tips on how to do well in fights with other players and in factions in general? Thank you in advance!
Alright, I'm a bit of a ninja now.
Don't make a house. Just live in the caves and trees.
Find diamonds and someone else's nether portal, and make a bunch of enderchests.
Chances are the spawn will have an enderchest incase you die.
Eat zombie flesh to survive, if you find a village DO NOT GRIEF it.
More tips later.
i suggest useing your sword to block creeper explosions, and if cornered in a battle then spam left and right click, the right click will block and reduce damage taken and you cannot attack while blocking, so try to alternate very quickly, also as some other have said above, carry a potion of instant heal around in your hotbar to heal quickly if low health, also if you have a fire resist potion then try to carry around lava to kill/severely injure other players (if allowed) and armor is your friend! Try to create an XP farm that has no risk to your armor or sword so you can enchant them,
The low ground is the best ground in melee situations, however, the opposite is true when talking about ranged combat.
When in melee combat, spam right and left mouse click. The hits and blocks will deal and reduce damage you take. However, the right click will slow you down, so make sure you don't need mobility inside that situation.
Try to avoid melee combat if you're going head to head, as this type of combat can always go 50/50. Instead, use a bow to keep an enemy at relatively short distance from their melee range. Remember, you don't need to hold down the bow all the way when wanting to shoot.
Stealth is best approach, whenever possible, get the jump on your enemy. The extra damage they take at first will harm them severely and will almost guarantee you that kill if they didn't have any other allies.
When entering a fight always have your food bar as high as possible, the extra regen during combat can prove useful.
Disengage is probably just as important as engage. If you find yourself in a tight spot you have two options:
1. Sprint while jumping, for them sprinting jumping, and trying to hit you is going to be harder for them then it will for you by just sprinting and jumping.
2. If you think a fight won't go your way, but want the kill try walking backwards while hitting the guy ahead of you. To me, this is very effective as for whatever reason your input of where you want to hit extends farther than where your hitbox actually is when walking backwards, making them trying to kill you much harder.
Hope this gives you some idea on how to do some basic combat.
1. Build a secret, small base that no one will found. Make it underwater or in the middle of no where. Make it safe and secure, and build a farm in there. It will help you to survive a lot of time inside the base.
2. Loot and grief other bases. Maybe you will find useful stuff.
3. Make an alliance with someone, but don't trust him too much. Don't tell anyone where is your base.
4. Never go in open places. Any one can find and kill you. If you found mountains- go between them, even if the way is longer. My suggestion is making secret tunnels.
5. Equip yourself with the best weapons and armor.
6. Diamonds and valueable stuff must to be stored in ender chests.
7. Brew tons of potions. They can always help you.
8. If you see some one's name, go away or sneak, so he won't see you.
9. When in combat- spam the left button. Use potions. If you are away engouh from the target, kill it with a bow. Full drawn bow with enchantments can deal lots of damage.
10. Grief spawnpoints and destroy beds (make the original spawnpoint full of lava or surrounded with obsidian).
11. Use mods like AutoSwitch. It is great in melee combat.

These tips sound good, but I won't be a horrible griefer or use hacks. I don't work like that.
On top of everything the others already said, try to confuse your enemy! Don't count on it working 'cause it won't on a lot of pros, but if you can get even a couple of cheap hits in from behind them or behind a rock, that's a lot better chance of you winning!
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
"Sometimes, I just wanna give up, say 'I'm done with this mess' and go to bed. But you know what; you can't shrug off your responsibilities. You got to pull yourself up and meet the challenges head on. That's the only way you're gonna get ahead in life."
Sure, I got plenty of tips. I can give tips on the fighting part, but as for faction wars I never field tested it, so use them at your own risk!
For the combat:
-When fighting, do not hesitate to draw your enemy into another fight with a pack of enemies.
-Wear the same kind of armor and weapon that everybody else is carrying, other colors can catch an enemy's attention.
-Whether or not you're paying attention and watching your enemy can mean the difference between life and death.
-Kill mostly whoever is alone to prevent attracting too much attention.
-Being debuffed should help you out by forcing you to find harder.
-Don't run or jump until you're at the enemy. Doing so will drain your hunger bar quicker.
-Always wear armor.
-Fighting multiple people at a time is easy, even if they're a team. Just be sure to move around so that one hits the other.
-Consider a free-for-all-more-than-two-player as a chance to escape if it's too hard.
-Lag spikes can save your life and jeopardize someone else's.
-Keep harmful potions on you, they dispose of an enemy very quickly, even in Protection IV.
-Monsters, Creepers especially, are dangerous. You can use them against the enemy if you can lure them.
-When arching, it's recommended you get used to the physics engine first to predict a shot before you take it.
For faction wars:
-When in doubt, empty the magazine.
-Always scout an enemy's base before raiding it.
-When raiding, try attacking underground and finding a way in via that.
-Creepers are just as effective as TNT itself, more so because you don't need a cannon.
-Never fight alone.
-Keep your head low. If someone knows you exist, it's only a matter of time before they get you.
-Don't trust anybody. Prime rule.
-Always keep a hidden base. Making it underground might give you an opportunity to escape.
-Living in the Nether is dangerous, but not as dangerous as the Overworld.
-Redstone tricks and traps can come in handy in the case of a raid.
-While you're being raided and you try to escape via a Nether portal, light a block of TNT before leaving to hopefully prevent the enemy from following you in there.
-Fall damage is the best way to kill an enemy.
