O-o Never see that kind of chat on the server I'm on lol.
Last time I was on the server I play, I believe the discussions I had revolved around car insurance.
if you ask me, a lot of it has to do with age. In the above scenario, there were me and a few others discussing Car insurance and stupid drivers and biking, while the rest of the players were, just saying "laaag" every few minutes.
I think XBOX opened the floodgate for noobs who are like "ZOMG HUROBRIN IS REAL AND PVP FUR LIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!", I know a friend who honestly thinks Herobrine is real. It's sad.
Someone I know can't even pronounce it right. AND HE BEILIEVES. MC is like Justin Bieber except less haters. In some ways it sucks and in some ways it's pretty good but it's not something to get obsessed about.
It's been popular for the last 3 years, why would it just go away in a couple months? Although I love the game, I find it annoying when people constantly talk about it, most of the time being complete newbies...
The game itself won't, but the majority of the fan base will lose interest and newer players will start picking it up. That's not to say all the old players will go away, but extremely "dedicated" fans like that tend to be a minority.
I agree, then. When starting a Minecraft channel, you now have to think "Why would people watch my channel over other MC channels?"
I know right?
People who are famous in minecraft ussually do something original, skydoesminecraft has squids, antvenom has the professional pro veteran play, sethbling finds the secrets in minecraft, the rest?
i haz diamond, I can do minecraft videos now, ugh, such stupid people, minecraft has too much potential, it can become better and better yet, but the more popular it gets, the more stupid people thinks they can do minecraft videos, and they don't even know that Herobrine is NOT real, sheesh, while I DO have a minecraft channel, I try to be as original as possible, I'll probably not become a big one, but I'll be happy because I have fun doing it, and I know I'm being as original as possible, personal things aside, people out there becomes TOO obsessive in minecraft, and unless they know their limits, and control themselves, minecraft will lose its shine, and fade away like a leave in a windy day....

The twilight warrior.
Master of darkness and light, bound to no element, this entity is ruthless, cruel, but fair, when he looks at you he sees your whole soul, and if your heart is tipped to the darkness, or to the light, run, and hope he doesn't think you're worthy....
Basically maintream minecrafters is what I can't stand. They barely actually play, and when they do, they are horrible but mostly talk about it and watch it on youtube. They are the kind of people who believe in herobrine, don't know any crafting recipe from memory and only use stone tools. Hate those people.
Easy now pal.
I use stone tools in big builds because I can easily fill my inv with them and go to town.
What's wrong with liking minecraft. I love it. It's a great way to kill time, it serves as a creative outlet, it connects people. Sure there are people who talk nonstop about it and think they know everything...... but you probably have an ipod or even a CD player (Old school(Not really)) Go about your business and do what what you want to do. There are plenty of decent people out there to play with and things to build.
People are obssessed with it because its cheap easy to play and gives plenty of hours of enjoyment. Why pay fo a new console when you could get your kid minecraft. They wont care what they're doing as long as they're doing something. Its simple.
For people who haven't done much in their life its easy to get lost in minecraft because you feel like you've accomplished something.
You could also get lost in redstone spending hours just building something gimmicky like a door bell jingle or a farm, or something ridiculous like a TV.
Minecaft build what you want, where you want, when you want for cheap....... How can you not be obsessed?
Same problem, everyone in my school thinks MInecraft is all about being an amazing miner or PVP'er. No one plays survival, every computer room is filled with people mining in creative with a pickaxe or doing random tnt explosions. In my school you can barely get a computer at lunch unless you sprint because all the Minecraft fans have found it. Before the Xbox edition everyone said 'This game is crappy, its all pixely and un realistic', now everyone loves it.. how does that work?
I dont get a lot of things our generation to, but I guess that is an entirely new subject.
This. Pretty much this.

Typical response from a typical PC user. Sure, as if the "floodgate" wasn't already blown wide open.
Well, it is the only game besides StarForge (Picture Minecraft Battlefield 3 graphics with no blocks) that allows you to dig into the terrain and mine freely. plus it is multiplayer. Mods make the game so much better, I have over 100 running on my server, its pretty fun, Minecaft was not really designed to be blocky, but it is the easiest way to create destroyable terrain, google StarForge if you want, It will compete EASILY and mabye win against minecraft......
A lot of people are obsessed with Minecraft due to the many possibilities, addictive gameplay, frequent updates, and modding support.
I didn't see an actual answer in this thread so here you go.
I've always wondered the same thing. Minecraft is an awesome game, but then again so is
Terraria but you don't see a million Terraria-themed custom maps on first person shooters that
aren't even vaguely related to it. If I remember correctly, Minecraft even had a few episodes
of some Cartoon Network cartoon dedicated to it.
I guess because it's a rare case of an Indie game which is practically as well known
as, say, LoZ: Skyward Sword or Super Mario Galaxy, so then the fanbase turns into
a bunch of hipsters bent on taking over the interent, kinda like what happened with
My Little Pony.
I think the real question is Why not everyone be so obsessed with this game?
But seriously, the separate aspects of the game may appeal to many different kinds of people. Whether you like action, (combat) building, (creative) or plain old surviving (survival), nearly everyone can find some part of the game that people enjoy. I am not an extreme gamer, but Minecraft seemed like a good game when I bought it back in it's early stages. And I can't stop playing it, it has just such a magnificent concept.

You didn't play in 2007-2009. New roblox sucks, old roblox was the best, that's why I quit 3 years ago.
