I'm not trying to hate or anything, but you said you eventually grew to like potions and enchantments, so why can't you grow to like this snapshot?
Also coal has never been difficult to find so charcoal doesn't really nerf it that much. If one is at the level where he or she is killing wither skeletons, gathering coal is also not a problem for them.
What you said about gold and cats, however, I agree with. I want to know what you would like for them to add though. Would you want stuff like what the industrialcraft and buildcraft and better than wolves mods provide?
I've got a chest full of coal. You want to tell me that it's difficult to find.
What I want added is what Mojang wants to add. Don't think about me, what is it that Jeb or Dinnerbone want added to the game that may have been put aside? I know Dinnerbone was working on something...can't remember...
Honestly, you're just reversing your point. You said you were done, no? Then why are you replying to everybody? Your arguments make no sense and they're repeated over and over. Using cookie-cutter responses is not the way to win an argument.
Good riddance, see you in hell.
And you're respectable? I've shown nothing but respect to everyone here, including you. I'm trying to hold from tearing into you right now because I'm tired and also I'm trying to be less "pushy" and "arrogant."
I read the first two lines of this, and I have to say, you are a coward. You lie in the past long gone, using it's shadows to quench your thirst, for there you were strong. But since everything is going away from your comfort zone, you suddenly have to retreat, and to keep your rule, you try to bring others with you, so you can be the lord of flies. The only reason a "veteran" would say something like this, is because they are a coward, and regret all that they have done. Think of it as Vietnam. Tons of people went there to fight, and those who came back were proud of what they did, regardless what happened. They proud for what they did. You just took all of your badges and medals, your purple heart even, and threw it all away like it was dirt. I'd like to say, if we lose a cowardly king, so be it, so a new one may take his place to better this kingdom.

I don't understand your reply. You implied in your original post that the addition of charcoal and wither skeleton coal makes coal useless, and then reply to me by saying coal has always been easy to get, which implies that the addition of charcoal and skelli coal did not affect the rarity of fuel for furnaces. I don't understand why you brought up charcoal/skelli coal in the first place if you then go on to pretty much say they do nothing to affect the rarity of coal.
And are you saying that the devs didn't add things they wanted because they were tending to the community's needs? I don't follow any minecraft suggestion forums or anything, so I have no clue if the new features (except daylight sensor and redstone block) were in high demand from the community. Maybe they were; I don't know. And the fact that you can't remember what it is that dinnerbone wanted to add to minecraft that he did get to because he was adding other stuff doesn't really help your argument.
I'm willing to admit you're right (not sure if this a topic one can be right or wrong on, though) if you can give me some more proof

What? How? What?
Gimme a sec...Alright okay. I'm not cowardly. I still hold my badges and my trophies because they are what define me. I rule no kingdom and have ruled none. I bring no man with me, but rather push them forward. Real strength is knowing when your time has come and that is what happened me. Veterans aren't appreciated as much because those of us who have fought and died and respawned now live in kingdoms with giant pixel arts and buildings the size of small towns. My badges are my own and if going back is cowardice, then I have not learned life's greatest meaning.
To return to a past long gone is to show the greatest respect for your roots. If you toss them aside like used tissue, then you have no respect for yourself, your kin, or your kingdom.

Going loopy from lack of sleep, can't make straight arguments. Send me a PM in the morning.
Going loopy from lack of sleep, can't make straight arguments. Send me a PM in the morning.
It's fine. I'm not here to convince you to come back to MC. I just wanted to know more/inquire about your argument. I can't make you play MC more. Just do what ya wanna do. Have fun with whatever you do in your free time
I hope you also do realize that Minecraft never was an official sandbox. Notch never said it, and Jeb never said it. This game has always been an RPG, and a FPS, and a whatever-the-heck-you-want. You are just making it something you dont want. Sad to see when someone leaves over a little box.
Coal has almost always been useless for me (charcoal much?), unless I use mods. I can't think of anything in vanilla minecraft that charcoal can't do the same as coal.
Coal is much easier to get than charcoal, I don't know why anyone would spend their precious logs on it.
However, now it seems that the time has come for me to say "STOP! I'm not taking this anymore." because of the latest snapshot, 13w01a. In this, a new item was introduced that made me finally have had enough of these weekly updates. That item is the trapped chest. Now you may be wondering, what's the problem with a chest that has a redstone circuit? Nothing at all. The problem I have is that now Minecraft is no longer a sandbox, finally being shoved into the generic RPG stereotype.
Minecraft is not being turned into an RPG just because a couple of RPG elements are added to it. It just gives the people who want to play it like an RPG the ability to play it like one just like how restone lets you play and build complex machines or how decorative blocks let you play it as a creative game. The things the add give people more choices to how they want to play the game.
Minecraft, to me, was a game where you went mining and crafted things. These mechanics seem to have taken a backseat as more "decorative" blocks have seemed to fill in the gaps. Clay pots, heads, Redstone blocks, Trading, the End, all of these things I believe, while nice, are unnecessary.
I don't know about you but I still do a lot of mining and crafting when I play Minecraft, nothing prevents from doing that if I want to. Like I said earlier they add those new things to let people have more choices with what they do in the game. Clay pots and heads can be used by people who want to make decorative things, the Redstone block is useful for redstone engineers, trading and the End are for people who want it to be more like an RPG.
Creepers being afraid of cats was just plain dumb. You make the scariest creature to ever be made...and he's afraid of a houscat. Nice going. To counteract this, they buffed creepers and gave them the ability to charge while jumping. That doesn't swing for me, sorry. You can't replace the fact that you "neutered" a dangerous mob then try to fix it by giving it super abilities.
Creepers the scariest creature ever made? I assume you were joking. Creepers weren't buffed because of being afraid of cats, they were buffed because before you could just put on a bit of armor and walk up right beside a creeper and let it explode and it would do almost nothing to you.
All this would not have bothered me so much as the many additions and removals and replacements that have happened through the months. We lost the gold apple, replaced with a weaker one. Then the old one came back, so now we have 2 gold apples? On top of that, apples now drop from trees and zombie pigmen drop gold nuggets effectively turning the Gold Apples into fairly worthless items as well as making gold even less valuable. Mushroom stew went from being able to fill up your entire health bar, to healing 4 hunger bars, then to 3 hunger bars. Charcoal is obtained by cooking log and wither skeletons drop coal. Now coal is worthless. Iron golems can spawn in large villages and be killed to get iron ingots which had gotten a spawn boost when Full Release 1.0 came out. Zombies can drop iron get and you can also trade for it from villagers. Iron is worthless now. Slimes spawn in swamps and Witches drop glowstone, glass bottles, and redstone.
Who cares if the golden apple isn't some super rare item anymore, before they let you be able to make it almost no one would ever see one. It was a useless item because even if you did manage to find one you would never use it. As for charcoal and wither skeletons dropping coal it's not like it makes much of a difference, coal is so common anyways that it's quicker just to mine it. As for iron from zombies their drop rate is low enough that it doesn't make much of a difference. When I sit at my zombie exp farm I get maybe 2 ingots per 100 zombies killed if I'm lucky. I do think that they should reduce how much Iron golems drop though. It's actually a lot nicer now that slimes spawn in swamps now, before you had to mine out a large area underground and light up all around it to try and get some slimes to spawn.
A while back, there was a post. A lot of the players were saying that Minecraft is a Medieval RPG game. Even when I pointed out that Minecraft had no theme, the forced into that corner. How many servers do you see with Medieval themes? Plenty. How about a modern approach? I can count them with two hands.
Does it matter what people think Minecraft is, why does what they think affect what you choose to do. As for the server thing out of around a 100 servers that I've seen only one ever had a theme.
Rarity: Now here is where I tear into the current version with a razor and magnifying glass. Iron was far rarer back in the old days. Now, you can get iron armor in about 5 minutes if you're good enough. (I got lucky in 90 seconds). You'd be lucky if you found a full set of iron armor before Full Release 1.0. To add to that, zombies drop iron tools, skeletons drop enchanted bows, Zombie Pigmen drop gold nuggets, Witches drop glowstone dust and redstone, Wither skeletons drop coal. There is no value in ANYTHING anymore save for the beacon block and emeralds.
Iron also wasn't used as much back then, now you use almost half a stack to make an anvil, over half a stack if you want to make an iron golem, over 1400 to make a full sized beacon. The tools zombies drop are useless anyways, they drop with around 20% of their durability left add that to the fact that they rarely spawn with a tool and then they have a low chance of actually dropping it you almost never get anything while killing zombies. Unless you actually have a zombie pigman farm or a looting 3 sword you won't get gold all that quickly, it would be quicker to just mine for it if you don't have those. Wither skeletons dropping coal isn't going to get you much, I spent two hours in the nether hunting them with a looting 3 sword and got around 2 stacks of coal. You could easily get nore then that in 10 minutres of actual mining. These drops just give you more ways to get items if you don't feel like mining all day for them.
The problem I have is that everything that was non-renewable is now renewable. Gold apples? I've got a stack of them. Nothing is special, nothing is sacred anymore. How would you like it if, say, they decided to make diamonds easier to obtain by making them spawn near lava sources? I wouldn't like it because its devalued that way. If Jeb were to remove apples and gold nuggets and make gold apples found only in Mineshafts, wouldn't you be thrilled at the challenge? I would be.
It actually makes those items useful now, it means you can use it because you know you can actually get another one. What's the point of having an item that you'll never use? As for the diamondsif it meant I could actually look for diamonds in caves instead of just digging endless 1x2 like it is currently I wouldn't mind. Personally I would dislike it if he only made them spawn in mineshafts, it would mean their I pointless item that I'll never use again.
It's that feeling of power, of getting that super special item. Because these super special items (Gold apples and Mushroom Stews) are now gained by all, I feel cheated as a gamer that things are becoming easier to acquire. Enchanted books, while nice, are currently the newest item to devalue the game a little more. No longer slaving at the enchantment table, just make a bunch of books and you can have a Super Sword in a short time.
So because other people are able to get those items it makes them worth less then they used to be, seems kind of selfish to me that you think an item is worthless just because other people are able to get them. On one of my worlds I had to enchant over 20 diamond picks just to get fortune. That's almost 60 diamonds wasted just to get one enchantment. The books give you the choice to save your resources instead of having to make a ton of tools that you don't need. The books take more time to get all of the enchantments you need because you can only get one enchantment per book. Add in the fact that you could end up getting almost any enchantment it gives you low odds of actually getting the one you want but the reward for this is it lets you put what you want on your tools. I think it's pretty balanced.
Sorry, not all of us have state-of-the-art machines with several gigs of storage.
Minecraft doesn't require a state of the art machine. I have a 13 year old computer that is capable of running Minecraft at 20-30 fps on max settings, maybe your computer has a problem with it.
Minecraft has definitely seen a significant performance drop post 1.2.5
Wanna know what's cool about the upcoming update though? It's focusing on improving the performance of MC. And I whole-heartedly agree with you, it has been dropping, but atleast I can run max setting with smooth lighting at normal render distance. Perhaps this update can push the limit...
Okay, now that I have a bit of rest, it's time to tear you guys a new hole because I'm sick of getting mine ripped.
The reason I am not leaving only because of Trapped Chests. Where will it end? WIth a new snapshot coming out weekly, more content added every several months, where will it end? I respect Mojang too much to allow them to fall into the Pit of Lost Souls, constantly trying to please everyone. Enough with the updates, I have had my fill and Jeb should take a nice, long vacation. I would love to have to got several weeks without a new snapshot showcasing all the new content being added to 1.x.x. If you tell me to not use the snapshots, you've completely missed my point and should go back to the target range
You all have to realize that Mojang has other projects like Scrolls and 0x10^c. You mean to tell me that they should just work on Minecraft and only Minecraft? That's very selfish of all of you and I frankly don't like that because it makes us seem like hungry wolves who only eat baby flesh and nothing else.
Jeb and the entire Mojang team are fantastic. It's time for us to realize that they are not about just Minecraft. They are human beings that have dreams, hopes, desires, and aspirations. I don't want them to try and please me by adding random content (while some of it IS useful) and instead go back to doing what they do. When I started out, I saw great things. Now, my time has come to say I have had enough and I would like to see something different. I mean, Final Fantasy XIV? Pokemon Black 2 and White 2? Do you guys really want Minecraft to be around forever, eventually adding EVERYTHING that comes to our fancy? Are you really going to put that kind of stress on a small team simply because you can?
Mojang, take a vacation and don't update a snapshot for a while. You deserve it for all the joy you have brought me. Don't worry about me, the player because I have too much respect for the Developer to force them to do my bidding, it's just not right.
I have had my fill and don't want anymore. Is it too much to ask them to stop with the updates?
I don't know about you but I still do a lot of mining and crafting when I play Minecraft, nothing prevents from doing that if I want to. Like I said earlier they add those new things to let people have more choices with what they do in the game. Clay pots and heads can be used by people who want to make decorative things, the Redstone block is useful for redstone engineers, trading and the End are for people who want it to be more like an RPG.
Once again, do you truely, really need everything they add to the game? Why can't some of these additions remain as mods?
Creepers the scariest creature ever made? I assume you were joking. Creepers weren't buffed because of being afraid of cats, they were buffed because before you could just put on a bit of armor and walk up right beside a creeper and let it explode and it would do almost nothing to you.
Yeah, Iron armor or better. I dare you to try and hug a creeper with leather armor on. However, getting Iron armor was the reward for having that creeper defence.
Who cares if the golden apple isn't some super rare item anymore, before they let you be able to make it almost no one would ever see one. So, if every mob dropped every item in the game that isn't already dropped, you would still use this argument against me? It's just having that special item that makes you feel powerful. Without that rarity, the game feels stale and you feel like you're playing a regular game. It was meant as something to work towards, without it, what are you going to work towards now? I know, you say wither, but what if Nether Stars become craftable? What are you going to work towards then?
Unless you're going to light up an area to prevent mobs from spawning or are cooking a large amount of items.
Actually it means you're intolerant of the beliefs and opinions of others or stubbornly unreceptive to new ideas.
Does it matter what people think Minecraft is, why does what they think affect what you choose to do. As for the server thing out of around a 100 servers that I've seen only one ever had a theme.
I choose to leave because I have had enough of the updates. I don't want anymore cake, get it away from me!

I don't really mind the drops so much, just the fact that there is SO much iron now. I play for half an hour and have about half a stack of Iron BLOCKs. I would like to see just a little cut back in the spawn rate.
It actually makes those items useful now, it means you can use it because you know you can actually get another one. What's the point of having an item that you'll never use? How does increasing their availability make them more useful? I want to be able to search for them and be rewarded for my searches.
I'm not selfish, I'm just saying I don't like it. I am a person and not a machine cog. I have my own likes, dislike, and ideas. They are just not for me and I'm sorry to have to say that, but it is time to let the game be taken out of our hands and be put back into Mojang's because a lot of community input goes into it these days. Have you ever asked, What would Mojang like to add to their own game? If you didn't ask that, you are the selfish one. I actually like the enchanted books and wish that they remain usable on all items (Infinity I Dispenser anyone? It doesn't work, but hey, it's right there)
Minecraft doesn't require a state of the art machine. I have a 13 year old computer that is capable of running Minecraft at 20-30 fps on max settings, maybe your computer has a problem with it.
Yeah, I know. Vista and the fact that it's an emachine.

Sad to see someone willing to eat everything up that's placed in front of them and not saying when they're full.

I'm willing to admit you're right (not sure if this a topic one can be right or wrong on, though) if you can give me some more proof
Well, the fact that Wither Skeletons drop coal, while rare, still means that Coal is no longer non-renewable (I know the game is technically infinite, but it's too big to grasp so I consider things I've loaded in as Finite if there is no way to obtain more than the set amount)
I have to give credit to you about doing exactly what you want, going back to a version you like without all of the new additions. You customise your game to your needs; it's a logical thing to do.
I don't not like all of the new additions, it's just that Trapped chests bother me to no end whatsoever. It's like, I would have preferred it if it stayed a mod. How about something more interesting like Trapped Crafting tables? Now THERE's a surprise for you.
My point: Who forces you to install the weekly update?
Who forces you to install any new version?
I use MultiMC, keep older copies of MC.
If there perhaps comes something up in the future that i might not like, i'm not going away and whine about it on this messageboard, i just stop updating the game and not be bothered with the new stuff i don't like.
No, I'm not forced to, but I would like for people to say Is this what I really want? Is this what Mojang really wants? I think that they just add most of the stuff to please us players which isn't what any game should be about.
I am not whining, I am simply turning my back to the future while remaining an active member in the hopes that one day something rekindles my desire to update and I am once again part of the major fold.
It's hard to be an individual when many of you guys are like "OMG y u h8 neew miEncraft? Jeb is Awesomest and he can do no wrong. U r whiner and stoopid for not liken game that is awesome." I simply tossed in the towel is all, nothing more, nothing less and did it without throwing a fit like "WHY JEB U ADD THESE USELESS THINGS!?" Trap chests were my end point and having that end point is a marvelous thing because you know what you like and not what you SHOULD like.
Once again, do you truely, really need everything they add to the game? Why can't some of these additions remain as mods?
Personally I haven't used much of the new stuff added since 1.3.2 but I know that other people like to use the new stuff and I don't have to use it if I don't want to. So I don't see any reason to not have it in the game.
Yeah, Iron armor or better. I dare you to try and hug a creeper with leather armor on. However, getting Iron armor was the reward for having that creeper defence.
You know after checking the Wiki I realized that creepers weren't really given much of a boost, on easy difficulty they now do less damage then they used to, even on hard they only do 33% more damage.
As long as what they dropped makes sense then I still would. If chickens suddenly started dropping obsidian or anything like that I'd be against it. For me finding a rare item like cocoa beans, golden apples and saddles before meant that I'd just throw them in a chest rather then waste them. Without that rarity I'm able to use the items how I want and not have to worry about not getting them again. As an example now I can make cookies out of the cocoa beans and use it as food. As for working towards something I work on making my village bigger. As for the Wither it's just an annoyance you just go to the nether and hunt wither skeletons for 3 hours with a looting 3 sword. Then you fight the Wither and it's not a challenge, you can kill it with no armor or potions without to much difficulty.
I don't really mind the drops so much, just the fact that there is SO much iron now. I play for half an hour and have about half a stack of Iron BLOCKs. I would like to see just a little cut back in the spawn rate.
There is actually pretty much the same amount of iron now as before I did a couple of checks on worlds generated back and Beta and ones generated on the most recent version and it seems like worlds have roughly the same amount of iron as before. The reason it seems more common is more due to the fact of how many more caves there are now, it's just an endless cave system underground now, so now you're able to just walk underground and see iron everywhere. Personally I agree with you that it needs to be a bit rarer to balance for how many caves there are now.
I'm sorry to have to say that, but it is time to let the game be taken out of our hands and be put back into Mojang's because a lot of community input goes into it these days. Have you ever asked, What would Mojang like to add to their own game? If you didn't ask that, you are the selfish one.
I'm fine with it if Mojang stopped paying as much attention to the community input. I've never asked what they wanted in the game but neither have I ever asked them to put something I want in. I'm fine with just about anything they want to add to the game. Although I have seen what you mean by people being selfish. If I remember right Jeb wanted to add horses but a bunch of people complained that they didn't want them added.
Personally I think that the Mojang team should stop updating the game once they think they added in all that they think it needs.
Personally I haven't used much of the new stuff added since 1.3.2 but I know that other people like to use the new stuff and I don't have to use it if I don't want to. So I don't see any reason to not have it in the game.

The reason it seems more common is more due to the fact of how many more caves there are now, it's just an endless cave system underground now, so now you're able to just walk underground and see iron everywhere. Personally I agree with you that it needs to be a bit rarer to balance for how many caves there are now.
Huh, I thought Iron got a major boost in spawn rate because of the introduction of Iron Golems? Oh well, you learn something new every day.
As for caves, I could go either way. I just hate ravines, they should spawn a little bit less but however you should have a higher chance of finding abandoned mineshafts near them.
Also, a little bit of community input is okay, more than...maybe 30-35% is slightly detrimental as many players have differing ideas, sometimes not wanting to get in harmony with each other. And we could have had horses!? Man...I would have named it Seabiscuit and fed it...sea...biscuits.
You could argue that because there are clearly defined quests, objectives, and an ending that it's not a sandbox game at all but just another RPG. However you chose to say that because they added a trapped chest it's no longer a sandbox.... I don't get it.
I'd argue DayZ is more of a sandbox game than Minecraft. There are absolutely no defined goals, objectives, and there is no end of the game. They built a world, gave the players some tools, and a whole lot of freedom.... enjoy it as you see fit. Just because Minecraft has some stereotypical RPG elements to it doesn't take away from the freedom and open nature of the game.
Minecraft is a great game and I happen to enjoy almost all of the updates. It's too bad you can no longer see the forest because a few trees are blocking your view.
I am still here and I still love Minecraft.
Well I actually started playing before alpha.
On topic:
OP. You should try playing Minecraft from the beginning, aka you must learn it all over again. Forget all that you know and just start up a world and play it slowly step by step while learning all the new tidbits.
Trust me it is still fun, and dont listen to those who say bad things. The forums have turned into a hate pile.
Actually, I had made plans for doing just that. I got sidetracked, then sidetracked. Well, now I have a reason to go back. I have a set of conditions to "beat" before I upgrade
1. I must collect all the ores
2. I must build a nice house. No wood shacks or dirt huts
3. I must spend at least 1 hour in the game. No speedruns here
4. Bonus: Try to get a block of each ore (Not coal of course)
5. Bonus: Craft every recipe in the version and make a nice museum display
I've got a chest full of coal. You want to tell me that it's difficult to find.
What I want added is what Mojang wants to add. Don't think about me, what is it that Jeb or Dinnerbone want added to the game that may have been put aside? I know Dinnerbone was working on something...can't remember...
And you're respectable? I've shown nothing but respect to everyone here, including you. I'm trying to hold from tearing into you right now because I'm tired and also I'm trying to be less "pushy" and "arrogant."
It's fine. I'm not here to convince you to come back to MC. I just wanted to know more/inquire about your argument. I can't make you play MC more. Just do what ya wanna do. Have fun with whatever you do in your free time
Coal is much easier to get than charcoal, I don't know why anyone would spend their precious logs on it.
Creepers the scariest creature ever made? I assume you were joking. Creepers weren't buffed because of being afraid of cats, they were buffed because before you could just put on a bit of armor and walk up right beside a creeper and let it explode and it would do almost nothing to you.
Minecraft doesn't require a state of the art machine. I have a 13 year old computer that is capable of running Minecraft at 20-30 fps on max settings, maybe your computer has a problem with it.
Wanna know what's cool about the upcoming update though? It's focusing on improving the performance of MC. And I whole-heartedly agree with you, it has been dropping, but atleast I can run max setting with smooth lighting at normal render distance. Perhaps this update can push the limit...
I feel like I'm the last one.
Sad to see someone willing to eat everything up that's placed in front of them and not saying when they're full.
Well, the fact that Wither Skeletons drop coal, while rare, still means that Coal is no longer non-renewable (I know the game is technically infinite, but it's too big to grasp so I consider things I've loaded in as Finite if there is no way to obtain more than the set amount)
I don't not like all of the new additions, it's just that Trapped chests bother me to no end whatsoever. It's like, I would have preferred it if it stayed a mod. How about something more interesting like Trapped Crafting tables? Now THERE's a surprise for you.
You know after checking the Wiki I realized that creepers weren't really given much of a boost, on easy difficulty they now do less damage then they used to, even on hard they only do 33% more damage.
