Yup! They'll still complain though, because you can't have that mountain with snow and trees on top of it... or something?

"Sometimes, I just wanna give up, say 'I'm done with this mess' and go to bed. But you know what; you can't shrug off your responsibilities. You got to pull yourself up and meet the challenges head on. That's the only way you're gonna get ahead in life."
It ain't so bad after all indeed... until you see pre-1.8 terrain. It's not bad, as you said, but it isn't great either. I want to see awe-inspiring terrain, which is the main reason why I bought Minecraft.
It's quite nice, but it has the same limitations as always. Guessing it is an extreme hill biome, your texture pack really pretties it up. What texture pack is it?

I guess you were right, people always have to complain about something.
I guess you were right, people always have to complain about something.
"Complaining" is ok depending on what it's about. If people didn't complain, slavery would still be legal. If people didn't complain, people would still be executed for no reason or with not enough evidence. If people didn't complain, workers would still be mistreated and under payed. If people didn't complain, women still wouldn't have the right to vote. If people didn't complain, Minecraft's terrain will stay boring and repetitive.
The main thing that got me into this game was kurtjmac's Farlands or Bust series which showed amazing terrain. I felt scammed after buying the game and seeing the terrain for myself.

Pre-1.8 terrain looks disgusting IMO
On topic, that is awesome. I love finding those cool little landforms when I explore.
I agree, mods are fun and they add onto the game, but they're not the solution for this big of a problem. Terrain is the most important feature of the game because it's literally everywhere in the game. You literally can't play without it. They're like the guns of every shooter game, the game would suck if they suck. Imagine playing a shooter game with only a FP-45 Liberator. Yeah you can make a mod to add better guns, but it would still be the crappy shooter it is because the most important feature of it sucks. The point of a video game is to play it, not to develop it. That's the developers' job, not ours.
It isn't a big deal, people kept complaining, and complaining, and complaining until finally the developers snapped.
Well let me ask you this, how do you know when something is a big deal or not? The terrain generation is the most discussed topic in the forums that is related to Minecraft. 2429 people out of 3121 have voted yes, the terrain did become boring. [sarcasm]I guess it isn't a big deal.[/sarcasm]
Think of the people who complain about the terrain as quality control testers. They feel strongly about something and they're giving feedback about what they think should be done. If you look at the main hub of these testers, the Did the Terrain Become Boring? thread, then you'll see that they didn't just say: The terrain is awful! Fix it! No, they specified exactly what was wrong with it and gave suggestions on how to improve it.
It's more constructive criticism than complaining.
More on topic: That looks pretty cool! The terrain is marginally improving.
If not, then that's cool, but that's definitely some luck with a transition.
See the thing is that some specific terrain isn't bad itself. It's just that what we had before was much better in terms of variation. I'd like to see a more aerial view of the area in this picture.
I've actually gotten some of the best mountains I've ever seen in the updates after 1.2. There are some absolutely insane ones, just... not all over the place. I have one map with a valley that has a single enormous tree in the center of it, on a stone outcropping. 1.4.2 has my favorite generator out of all of them
Yup! They'll still complain though, because you can't have that mountain with snow and trees on top of it... or something?
It's actually possible with the way snowyhills have gotten, lately. In my world I started for 1.4, I have an awesome view of snow-covered mountains from my house. I'm waiting until I can get myself armored up before checking them out, as I know there's a 99% chance I am going to get lost and have to deal with nighttime events.
While anything before Beta 1.8 provided some rather interesting vistas, I have found I prefer a bit more individual biome to view for decent distances as opposed to a mix of about all of them every direction I turn. I will definitely say Beta 1.8 was depressing as all get out, but the terrain has improved big time since then, and I am quite satisfied with how it has turned out.

And while it can be entertaining to see so many argue for something that is never going to happen, and yet have the resources to get what they want on their own through mods such as MCNostalgia, the constant statement is annoying to anyone else who doesn't care about your view. It is on par with political debates, as there isn't any valid argument presented and nothing is shown to back up said argument. In the end, you really are acting like a bunch of self-entitled children who feel their opinion matters just because.
Adding in the randomness of 1.7.3 would destroy the biomes added since then, as swamps would come out all wrong, and there wouldn't be any way for villages and other structures to actually occur. If that doesn't matter to you, then the solution is easy: plug in MCNostalgia and load up your Minecraft to how you prefer it. This is a valid choice without your incessant need to step on other people's enjoyment of the game.
When you consider the number of actual players of Minecraft, 2429 people is hardly a number to consider, especially when the only people who visit such thread polls are the only ones who find it relevant to themselves. Most everyone else just pass that thread by.

In the real world, you stick your head in the dirt to hide from problems.
In Minecraft, you stick your head in the dirt to find problems.
Meh, you call the image in the OP cool? Look at these images that I took when I downgraded to 1.7.3 beta.
Looks like an ordinary mountain from that view, right? But look at the others.

Where's your precious extreme hills biome now, new terrain fanboys?

To all of you people who think Notch is still working on the game, he stopped working on Minecraft in late 2011. Get your facts straight and stop spamming his twitter about Minecraft updates.
I just don't see why they still do it, Dinnerbone has been saying they're looking into it, but they now complain because they didn't implement it in the update. The complainers just don't realise that it takes time to code some things into the game...
On topic now, that looks cool, I've seen something like that, only that was one branch of four that looked kind of the same. I built my house in the middle and made paths down each overhang to the ground

Who knows! That would be cool, but I'm not complaining that we don't have it.
There's also a desert village directly connected to the mountain, and that also looks cool as Nether.

I've been here since beta 1.7.3
Okay, so crazy features like this aren't as common, but it makes it all the more worthwhile to keep exploring!

You get tired of exploring after a while of seeing the same ol' thing.

I am ninja'd far too often.
That's your opinion. Obviously, a lot more people think pre-1.8 terrain was better or else it wouldn't be such a big deal.
