I have a feeling that minecraft is becoming a rpg.
First of all, it used to be a simple sandbox game,Where you can build anything you want withdout the hassle of anything. Then notch tried to make the game a little more 'fun', Which also ment that fun means something chalanging but isn't stressfull. I don't like diffcult stuff, as I find creative mode and classic have none of that.
But then there was monsters. At first, I didn't mind, but when I found out you can't fight back.
Then when a new set of weapons came. I expected guns, but they got swords instead. There are no
first person shooters/rpg games around so that was one step to becoming one.
I don't realy think resorces are a part of rpg.In fact, I like that idea. It a thrilling exprince when you find your first diamond (or coal). In most rpgs you tade stuff instead of making your own. This was not in minecraft except
1.3.1.
Then the halloween update came. The nether was a fine exaple of a role playing games, with its mythical
creatures and hellish landscape. Ghasts and blazes therw fireballs with made me think about dragons.
I didn't like the idea about portals ethier. The zombie pigmen were bacsliy demons too.
Then the biggest impact on minecraft: The Rpg- I mean, Adventure update!!!!!
This made good stuff and bad stuff. Hunger was a good element,
But the end freaked me out. First, THE ENDERDRAGON!!!!
Second, ENDERMEN!! Thrid, ENDER PORTALS!!! THERE ARE TO MUCH 'ENDER'!!!!!!!
The ender is so rpg like. But what rejoined the classic ages is creative mode.
You had umlimted blocks, health and classicness.
Theres tons of things I possbily forgot but do you agree that minecraft is turning the wrong way?
Please reply and don't say "It's only you that thinks minecraft is turning rpg." I hate that!!!!!
UPDATE: Ok, I guess minecraft is not becoming a rpg but a fantasy. Which is bascilly the same thing.
UPDATE UPDATE: I was just scrolling through my content I posted until I found this. There is many
stupid annoying topics like this that just complain and don't do anything. I am much more mature now.
I understand "don't like it don't use it". I know that Mojang does not hear those blabbermouths. They
just ignore them. 99% percent of this junk is not true.
You don't have to use any of those features if you don't like (save for hunger). Just don't try to find a stronghold. Don't go to the nether. Don't use enchantments. No potions.
Minecraft to me, is, and always will be, a simple sandbox game. You can still make anything you like, do whatever you want, go wherever you wanna go. That has not changed, and should never be changed. Minecraft is what you make of it. If you want to go to the End and fight the Enderdragon, that is fine. If not, you don't have to. You aren't punished for NOT fighting it. Don't like creative mode? Don't use it! It's there if you want it though.
I think these things were added was simply to make the game a little more enjoyable to a wider audience. Some people like the RPG elements to the game. Others, such as myself, prefer the simpler sandbox environment, where you can build, do, go anywhere or anything you could imagine.
Like I said before, Minecraft is what you make of it.
No, I don't agree, I have never agreed, and the very notion is nothing more but a load of ******** based on arbitrary standards of what constitutes an equally arbitrary definition.

I don't think so. Dinnerbone has made xp grinders not work so well because he doesn't want people to be lazy.

Have you read the entire post? Besides, I bet some other people think that to. My brother does.
Again, you do not need to use enchantments. If you choose not to use them, the only real purpose of a mob grinder would be for mob drops. The xp and the enchantment system are there if you choose to use them, but you are not required by any means to use enchantments.
How are most of the things you listed rpg based??? Hellish landscape/monsters/weapons/ender stuff=rpg??
If you wanted to avoid all that why not play classic mode or creative? I dunno what you expected, minecraft is a growing game, stuff is going to be added.
You want to know a secret? I don't really use enchantments or potion making or even go to the end. I didn't object to their addition but I also didn't care for it. I don't complain because I know people like them even if I feel meh about them and thats okay!
Really? Really?
Your saying a sandbox game( Which is a game you do whatever you damn well please in ) is turning into an RPG by adding a few new survival elements. Like everyone else here, just don't use it. You don't need enchantments, you don't need potions or the nether. You can avoid strongholds and the end. But everything that has been added, save hunger, is optional. Its still a sandbox.
I started out trying to comment on your OP, but that didn't work because it got so terribly ridiculous.
Just because Minecraft contains elements from the fantasy genre doesn't mean that it's turning into an RPG. That's absurd. There's no logical connection between the two whatsoever.

and what is wrong if it becames something like that? sideways you can always "downgrade" your minecraft version.
y trough that the game is just becaming awesomener every update.
I agree that Minecraft is much diff rent than when it first was "Minecraft". In Minecraft you don't have to do anything you don't want to do, you could just be a simple farmer or adventure or maybe even a miner, that's what you hate about rpgs you have to follow quests and story-lines. in Minecraft there's a general story that you can follow but its optional.
I don't see any problem with the RPG elements. I mean sure, there are people who'd agree that they missed the Classic days, but many people don't mind the features. Quite frankly, I enjoy the features, I find that they add more depth to the games. Also, swords aren't just an RPG weapon, many games feature swords.

It gets a result.
The things you listed aren't Role Playing elements, you based them off stereotypes of RPGs.
^.^
But really, having RPG elements doesn't mean it's turning into an RPG.

For a game to be successful and long term, it needs goals and variety. These new features add that.
If you want plain simplicity of building things, then simply play on Creative Peaceful and don't use the new stuff.
Don't let your personal desires ruin the fun for others. Many of us want to be entertained by the game for a long time
