Am I the only one that doesn't like how Mojang releases like 6 snapshots before they release the next update? It ruins the fun of getting an update for me personally. I liked the hype when there was monthly updates and I'd be impatiently waiting for a new update every month. Now it's like snapshot 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 come out before an update, and you already know how everything in the update will be by the last snapshot. It kind of defeats the fun in getting updates with such frequent pre-releases.
Now yes, I could just "not download them," but eventually I get sick of waiting and have to download one of them. Because Mojang thinks that since they release multiple snapshots, it gives them a go ahead to take forever on releasing the final version of the update.
Not to mention, even if I didn't download the snapshots, I still have to see youtube videos about them.
Am I the only one who doesn't like the snapshots? For me, it kind of ruins the updates, because everything about it is already known and made public before it's even released. As much as I hated waiting for the updates, it was oh-so satisfying to see a new one when I go on Minecraft one day.
Just my thoughts, tell me what you think. Call me a Minecraft hipster if you wish.
That's a lame reason to complain.
If they just released updates with little fore-warning, there'd be much more complaining since mods would be broken for much longer.
The snapshots exist to be a preview of the future, and to give modders time to update.

So . . . yeah.
While that's a good reason, mods aren't really required to play the game anyways, so most people are complaining about something unnecessary. I personally don't use mods. Not to mention, even if a mod was released that was compatible with a snapshot, it still needs to be updated for when the full release comes out, so there's still a wait period.
I don't think Mojang should be basing the way they release content off of how beneficial to modders it will be, mods aren't necessary to make the game enjoyable. I've been playing for over a year now and I still enjoy the vanilla game. I honestly think snapshots really just ruin the excitement of updates, for the most part. At least for people like me who don't want to use snapshots.
I'd say it's a lame reason to complain that you can't use mods for a little while, though.

Well then, that's your problem. No one is forcing you to download the snapshot.
Not to mention, even if I didn't download the snapshots, I still have to see youtube videos about them.
Excuse me...you HAVE to see YouTube videos about them? Actually, you don't. Just avoid the videos with information about the snapshot.

You can still have that feeling, by not updating to the snapshots or reading any spoilers about them.

Snapshots aren't just for the modders; in fact, 1.2.5's snapshot is the only snapshot that was released as a snapshot just for the modders. The real purposes of the snapshots are to let impatient players see the content faster and to report bugs to Mojang. You're complaining about something that is only good.
Well then, that's your problem. No one is forcing you to download the snapshot.
I know. I clearly said that. But I get impatient too, believe it or not, and Mojang gets the idea that if they release enough snapshots, they can take forever for the actual update. I used to wait 1 month for an update, knowing it will come in 1 month. Now they seem to take forever, and I eventually end up downloading one or two of them because I don't know when they'll come out with the actual update.
Excuse me...you HAVE to see YouTube videos about them? Actually, you don't. Just avoid the videos with information about the snapshot.
I'm a youtuber. A content uploader and viewer. You clearly took me too literally. Words aren't meant to be always taken in the most literal sense. I obviously don't HAVE to watch them, but it's bound to happen seeing as I'm active in the youtube community. Even if I didn't watch a video, I still get commenters telling me new things about updates and such.

More snapshots=more time in between updates
More time in between updates=more impatience
I'm not perfect, I get impatient. If they're not going to release them monthly or I'm not going to know that they're released monthly, I eventually download one because my impatience gets the best of me and I don't know when the actual release will be. They've become inconsistent.

That guy was saying that it gives a preview of what's to come in the update for modders so there's less of a wait time for mod updates. But mods aren't essential to the game, and they still need to be updated from the snapshot to the full release anyways, which means there's still a wait time. I have nothing against the content of the snapshots, just the nature of them. Though you do bring a valid point that people can report bugs and such. Closed testing, maybe?

If it's your fault that you're spoiling yourself on the update, then don't complain when you find out stuff you didn't want to know.
I think they should just get rid of them. Yes it is nice to get updates pretty much every week, regardless of how much new content is added. I understand that they do them to find bugs to fix for the official update. But I'd rather updates go back to how they were. As OP said, everything is already known.
If it's your fault that you're spoiling yourself on the update, then don't complain when you find out stuff you didn't want to know.
It's almost unavoidable, seeing as, well, I'm active on youtube and active on this site, both of which have many things giving away the update. Sure I can not read/watch them. But when they're on the front page or right there when they pop up, it's kind of hard to not at least read or look over.
Not to mention, I still have a problem with the inconsistency of the updates. If they were still releasing them monthly and for sure monthly, I would have no problem. But all they do is release a bunch of snapshots and I have to wait even longer, not knowing when the actual update comes out.
Also, you don't think the snapshots ruin the fun of updates, really? I honestly have felt no excitement for a single update past 1.8, or whenever they started doing pre-releases. Even when I did participate in downloading pre-releases. Everything was revealed ahead of time in slow little chunks and it just had significantly less built up anxiousness for a big update like they used to do.
Oh no, Mojang releases optional versions so you can see the latest version of Minecraft.
Er... I don't know why that's bad :I
Like I said in my response to that other guy. I'm active on this site and on youtube. Both of which have many videos/articles that will show snapshot updates. I'm not going to block myself out until an update comes out simply to cause more excitement. And snapshots make a longer wait for the actual release, which means that even IF I were to block myself out, I'd still have to wait longer than usual. I'd rather have monthly updates with big changes than these little weekly updates that build onto eachother until they reveal the whole update.
I liked having one big surprise, rather than gradually revealing it all over several weeks.

It kind of defeats the fun in getting updates with such frequent pre-releases. Why bother even thinking you will get a snapshot? You can still have it. Officially the snapshots are for testing. They test and get feedback to fix (most) bugs (with the exception of this 1.2.5 snapshot)
Now yes, I could just "not download them," but eventually I get sick of waiting and have to download one of them. Because Mojang thinks that since they release multiple snapshots, it gives them a go ahead to take forever on releasing the final version of the update. Really this is your fault and can't really help you on that. Just stop being impatient. Think of a snapshot of a beta of a release. Why play the beta of the official release? Just wait till it releases.
Not to mention, even if I didn't download the snapshots, I still have to see youtube videos about them.No you don't? Even if I see a snapshot video it doesn't effect me. The way I'm wired, I don't get the same spoiling alert of watching a video then just playing it myself.
Am I the only one who doesn't like the snapshots? For me, it kind of ruins the updates, because everything about it is already known and made public before it's even released. As much as I hated waiting for the updates, it was oh-so satisfying to see a new one when I go on Minecraft one day. Now you are just being repeatable. My first answer.
Just my thoughts, tell me what you think. Call me a Minecraft hipster if you wish. I myself LOVE Minecraft. I even have a whole binder full of documents for blocks, block ids, potion crafting, enchanting, and mobs. As much as I love Minecraft I don' see the problem in snapshots. They are a beta for a release of a release. A testing ground (or a warning ground like 1.2.5 snapshot). Plus what's the real difference between a snapshot and an update? Snapshots are always the same as the release just more buggy. So it's not like you are being given only a small part of the picture.
It's almost unavoidable, seeing as, well, I'm active on youtube and active on this site, both of which have many things giving away the update. Sure I can not read/watch them. But when they're on the front page or right there when they pop up, it's kind of hard to not at least read or look over.

Just ignore that the snapshot even exists, and take the info like you did before 1.0. Mojang did tell us things before the updates. We knew almost all of what was going to be released in 1.8 before it came out.
Even though mods are optional, they are a HUGE part of the Minecraft community. For people like you they are optional, but people do put a lot of work into making them, and if they were completely ignored there would be problems (Just look at the effect of the 1.2.4 update, but without any recognition that there was any problem with it). Also, if I were you, I wouldn't keep using "I'm impatient" as one of my main arguments .

Yeah I don't like snapshots too. I have to play Minecraft 1.2.4 while Jeb is releasing snapshots for 1.2.5. Then after that, Jeb would be releasing a 1.2.6 snapshot and I have to play Minecraft 1.2.5. That's my way on how to skip snapshots.
P.S. Snapshots are a nasty thing. Future updates may be interesting, but snapshots can contain potential bugs. That's a chance.

Uhm...dude that's the whole point. Snapshots are a testing ground to find buugs...derp hurp derp. (With the exception of 1.2.5 where it is clearly meant only to get modders a heads up)

In fact, during beta, I only upgraded to 1.8 after I realized that they weren't going to release an "official" 1.9 update.
I prefer major updates rather than small ones.
Gives me more to do when I update :3
