Those are small boulders clustered together, not flat patches of smooth stone. Also, notice how the rocks appear more in the steeper sloped terrain, rather than being on perfectly flat areas like it now appears in Minecraft.

Mixtures of stone and grass in mountain areas are not a problem, but the way Mojang pulled it off is rather terrible. It would look much better if stone appeared on steeper slopes, and completely replaced the grass after a certain elevation. Not only would that look much better, it would even be more realistic.

I must say, They improved the biome generator at 1.7 update. And i'm pretty happy with it.

I hate 1.8.1 terrain

The current transition between beach and ocean biome is very unrealistic and very ugly which need to improved.

The geography is more interesting now with the improved height variation.

But you can't enjoy most of that because there's too much damn forest, it gets repetitive and boring real quick.

They really need remove gravel ocean floor,because in real life the ocean floor is covered by sand.Like in this picture.



As you can see in real life the ocean floor is covered by sand unlike in Minecraft which is covered by gravel.The old ocean floor is much better because it contain a lot of resource which help player that start a survival island world.Gravel is most useless block in Minecraft,they need bring back old ocean floor.

Wow you people complain a lot! Everything in the last two pages that you said are ugly and don't happen in the real world, these I rather like (because it adds to the variety) and have seen in real life. I like the new swamps, the rocky flats, the deep lakes (these are not oceans, despite the name). Shallow waters are often gravelly or rocky.

Savanna provides a nice sparse-tree environment, as do plains. And if it's not perfect you can plant, chop or burn to make things more to your liking. I love the new dense oak forests, and the new taigas.

The transitions and nice colors make that scene very aesthetic in my opinion.

Guys... I don't think its meant to look like real life.
Its a game, Minecraft! I'm glad it doesn't look to much like real life, that would be kind of boring.

EDIT: Gee, I just read through a few pages back... Some of you will really complain about anything.
I think the stone mixed in with the grass looks nice! And seeing it compared to the flat 1.7 beta terrain the new one looks way better. I don't like building on really flat spots, I like to mix my buildings into the terrain if I can, I find it looks much nicer, but that's probably just me.

But really, in pretty much all the updates I haven't had any complaints, one of the only things about this update that I don't like much is the ocean gravel floor, even that's not to bad, its not as if you going to see it much anyway...

Sorry if I sounded a little rude/annoying but I just find it frustrating how some of you will complain about so many things... Your still playing the game aren't you? Its not that bad.

I have to say I really like the new biomes; my only major complaint is that the transitions are still too obvious. For example, in Beta transitions between biomes were easily missed because they were so slow, but now they happen over only 5 or so blocks.

guys we dont need of a realistic terrain if you want a more realistic terrain download maps in the internet but
the beta terrain is purest than the new terrain but old is cooler but the new terrain is more realistic
we want a terrain that be compative with minecraft realist terrain is just for arround things like reality but in a cube game is best the pure terrain

To be honest, there has been quite a lot of changes to Biomes in minecraft. Unfortunately, they haven't all been very good. I'm not talking about the actual biome (e.g the features). But it's the way it's set out now makes it all look the same. They need more variety.

Do you guys ever think Minecraft isn't suppose to be realistic? The biomes are loosely based off of Earth's to make a realistic world, but not a completely realistic world. New terrian does less and less for my imagination to springboard off of. By that I mean, sometimes the more crazy the biome is, the more it gets me thinking about building cool things and making it home. All regular forests are a complete joke, flat, boring, same size tree everywhere. What happened to tall big bushy oak trees with the skinny trunk? The map I've been playing for years has far more inspiring terrain in the world origin areas, that the newly generated parts.

The new biomes aren't taking full advantage of what Minecraft is capabile of. I've seen a mod do nice work with terrain. Id like to see all sorts of hybrid bioemes that fluxuate in their intensity.

I dont care hoenstly if snow is next to a jungle in theory, they just need better gradients that ramp from one to the other over 30 blocks.

Another prob with all these new biomes is.. No new mobs.. no significant items and purpose to go exploring in them. (maybe some new flowers is all they could come up with, or have time for........ with all those millions of dollars Mojang pulls in) Kinda pathetic.
