The thing that really bothered me about EH biomes were the people who claimed 1.8 was more realistic. I dont know about you but EH are just about as far from realistic as anything.
The problem with claiming that a feature is more realistic isn't that it may be good or bad. It's that claiming such is fallacious, because realism < gameplay. If a "game" is very realistic but not fun, then it wouldn't be an actual game (instead, it would be a simulator). The purpose of games for many is to escape from reality, and making a game super-realistic would defeat the purpose.

The worlds are infinite, but there aren't infinite possibilities for the terrain. There are more biomes nowadays, but less overall variation. And superflat customization? That would just let you generate different layers, while having flatness and no caves. That's not (at least in my opinion) not fun. (although it is fun to do survival challenges in superflat, but as an overall survival world, no.)

The thing is people don't understand how hard it is to code this kind of game.Minecraft is the only game I have ever heard of that has literally infinite worlds.It takes lots of time to have to terrain smoothed out and code the game to spawn random generated structures in specific areas.

1. The game already had good varied terrain.
2. I wrote a simple platformer (1, 2, 3) with infinite worlds and terrain generator with biomes (Didn't publish it anywhere). It's not hard at all. Collisions are actually harder to implement.
Minecraft generation is a bit complicated sometimes, but not too much either. The most complicated parts are biome placement and structures. The actual terrain is not complicated at all. And it was even simpler before Beta 1.8.

I understand that people like slapping mobs with a diamond on a stick, but there are a variety of mobs! You can create a superhard mob using MCedit or something.

See? there are a lot of unrefined features in Minecraft like the terrain, combat system, enchanting, mobs, and generated structures. This thread is just pointing out (But most patrons of this thread do things in here rather harshly) that the terrain needs some work.

What do we have in this picture that the current terrain generation can't do?
Nice flattish plains with smooth rolling hills that aren't bonemeal spammed with tall grass, with small groves of trees.
A large life-size river/lake with clean bedding, and small little forest islands
A smooth, flattish beach, a cool sand outcropping/inlet.
Long stretches of coastline that lack sand at all.
But perhaps the star of the show is on the far right of this picture-- that huge forest plateau mountain with sheer cliffs, with flat land on one side and the river on the other. Notice how the hills on the left/center of the screenshot in the distance are also large and sweeping across the landscape. That's still a forest/plains biome.
That's the type of variation I'd like to see in the landscape again.
Maybe there is hope I found this comment on Reddit.
"Whatever they do I hope it's not just a bunch of new random biomes, we got already lot of mods for that and once you get used to them you realize they all look the same and the interest goes back down. I'd rather have a remake of the world generator into something more variable and unpredictable, so maybe I can get back the second reason why I bought the game: exploration.
Since beta 1.8 every world looks the exact same, even seeds are no longer significant, it's time for a change. A lot of people is waiting for that since the "adventure update" (the irony...), I hope they understand that and deliver something at least as good as beta 1.7.3. I know, unpopular opinion, you know what to do..."

It's one thing to get a mod like the feed the beast modpack in order to add to the game. But if it's necessary to get a mod in order to make a core aspect of the game interesting, then something is wrong.
Notice how all comments showing even the slightest bit of criticism get downvoted, while the ones suggesting to spam more cookie-cutter biomes get voted to the top. Reddit I usually love you, but r/Minecraft is a cesspool of stupidity.

For those of you who are like "Oh you're just showing the best of the old terrain and the worst of the new terrain"...
Kurtjmac on youtube (http://www.youtube.c...U9mFx5n6j2HyXow) Has a minecraft series called farlands or bust, where he is literally walking to the farlands in minecraft beta 1.7.3. Look at one of his "Farlands or Bust!" videos. It shows very nice and newly generated 1.7.3 terrain generation, which has some of the variety in the terrain we are suggesting should be added in the current version of minecraft.

Not at all. That has flat or mountainous terrain, beta also had the bits in between.
