I took my time to make a world for every version of minecraft that has a terrain change. To Classic to all the way to Official 1.3.1.
No seeds were used since it's an unfair advantage. There is about 11 saves in this zip file.
Feel free to use it as screenshots or something.
ChaosGuardian, can you state in OP we found letters the most effective way to tell them about this?
So people would not think "I won't waste my money on sending a letter, it isn't modern and it's slow
, I will use twitter instead" (
- my one was extra paid for priority, I encourage you to do the same).
I would normally use the Wedge world generator for interestng terrain. I mean, look at what I was able to create using this awesome mod! I would have taken more pictures, but I was in a bit of a rush. http://imgur.com/a/7hrNF
Sadly, I don't think it's ever getting updated... this mod shall forever remain in 1.2.5.
But yeah, I must say that the terrain has gotten much more boring and dull over time. I would rather have the world generator wedge uses (the option I used to generate this world was called Superfun.)
- [SLIDERS ARE] NOT WHAT THE NEW TERRAIN DISLIKERS WANT.
Well okay then. It's not for them, then. This is completely separate to redoing the terrain generation and that, I feel, is what's causing most of the confusion about things. They can get whole new world types or whatever they/we want once we're done with refactoring all the worldgen code and making it easier to make this stuff. This is a stepping stone, it is not directly related to new worldgen code. It's like me changing the lighting in pumpkins while working on fixing lighting blackspots; it's a stepping stone, changing the technology and making sure it works along the way.

Well okay then. But this is not "You're getting customizability and not a new generator ever". It's "I can't say if you're getting a new generator because they're very hard to make with our current codebase and I'd rather work on cleaning things up and making them easier to work with before looking into it.".

Did something happen to you in your childhood to give you this unreasonable fear of rutabaga?
To be honest, I actually respect what Dinnerbone said. It's still too early to criticize anything except for his generality of not specifying if Sliders will be added to Survival Mode or not.
So Dinnerbone said that sliders may be irrelevant to improvements on world generation, meaning he might fix the terrain in time, and that this is just customization. I like how uncertain he is. This means we have to keep the criticism going.

Thought I might stress this. The point isn't to whine so much as point out what needs to be fixed, and if possible how to fix it. This thread has done a pretty good job of that, but I think now that it has gotten some recognition on Mojang's part we should try really hard to avoid the mindless bashing we get accused of doing, and instead try to offer practical solutions.
Well, it's nice to know that the sliders have nothing to do with terrain improvement but will help in making terrain improvements easier. If he's focusing on improving the code for the terrain now, this might mean major terrain improvements are planned for the near future. Hopefully this time they're good improvements.
Also slimes now spawn in swamps during night time YAY
Not only does that look boring -- and I know this because swamps are almost always flat -- it is still not an improvement to the generator.
No, adding features to the game, even they are directly tied into the generator, does not improve the generator. Mojang needs to restore ALL of the values that were lost in 1.8, and yes, possibly smaller biomes if they must.
for those of those whining like little babys maybe if you took two minutes to look around there are mods in development that allow for more terrain possibilites, yes they require a little work to get working right, but they still work

True. I will add it. Awesome video by the way.

ExtraBiomesXL is too non-minecraft to me.
Better use NBXlite (Olddays) by Exalm
Ditto to that.
Different version of his responses:

Well it's obvious what they'll do. For me, there are two things to consider:
- I will be pissed if it IS added to survival mode
- If it is added, there sure as hell be a random generator option

They've reverted the lighting engine back.
