A while back notch say that anyone who buys the game before beta will get all the updates after Minecraft is officially released for free. Anyone that buys the game after that will have to pay for them.
I've only seen notch talk about this a few times, but non of them have been recent. I guess he lied to us?
People that buy it in beta get it cheaper, as it will go full price when it launches. People who brought it before will get the full release just like any other update that they do. Think it through before you post things like this...
If i bought the game in beta, will i have to buy minecraft 1.0? or will i get the update free?
What You Get For Purchasing
When you purchase Minecraft you do so as is, be it in the early stages of development or already fully released. Subsequent updates are only an added bonus and not a guarantee, as icing on a cake. Purchases during the development of the game are discounted and include the full game upon release.
As we at Mojang strive towards releasing updates for our projects we cannot guarantee that any project will ever be completed and/or provided support for. There's always the risk of a project being discontinued at any time.
They're not updates, Brian. They're DLC at that point. Updates, like bugfixes, we'll probably get for free. But things like new blocks, mobs, or things like that we'll likely have to pay for unless you're Alpha(buyer) like me.
Alpha buyers: We get all this stuff for free.
Beta buyers: You get primary minecraft and likely bugfixes for free.
Regular buyers: Free bugfixes most likely.
See what i'm getting at? Minecraft 1.0 is also going to be an UPDATE. Not a whole new server listing for players. Nobody is rebuying the game. Nobody is getting screwed. Notch understands his legal boundries and respects them well. He said back in alpha that anyone who bought the game now gets all the stuff for free. But then he wanted to change his mind, but legally... Couldn't. The deal was made. So he said people who buy in Beta will have to purchase DLC and extensions otherwise, whereas alpha buyers already sealed the deal long ago.
Beta buyers WILL get the final release of minecraft, with the addition of bugfixes, and most likely minor updates.
Beta buyers MAY HAVE TO buy larger updates. For example, if Mojang releases adventure mode as an expansion pack or something, beta buyers may have to buy it.
What are you talking about? Nothing has changed, and Notch has not lied. Alpha players as others stated repeatedly get the game + updates + DLC for free, beta players get the game + updates for free.
During alpha the ToS said Alpha players get all the new content free for the future, this was changed in beta to all game updates being free but not DLC.
Alpha buyers: We get all this stuff for free.
Beta buyers: You get primary minecraft and likely bugfixes for free.
Regular buyers: Free bugfixes most likely.
So you're saying that Beta buyers get the new content updates for Minecraft aswell?
Updates (Bug fixes, patches, etc...) will always be free. You will have to only pay for DLC/addons. Once you buy the game you don't have to re-buy it when it fully releases.
I can't seem to figure out why that is so hard for you to understand?

Unless it changed in the last month then don't mind this post.
If i bought the game in beta, will i have to buy minecraft 1.0? or will i get the update free?
Yeah. I got it in Beta 1.6 and it still said "You will get the game free when it comes out"

Still seems unfair. Notch is a multi-millionaire and shouldn't be selling updates.
Alpha buyers: We get all this stuff for free.

Regular buyers: Free bugfixes most likely.

Well I'm alpha, but I feel sad for beta players, they helped too.

YUM YUM YUM!

He needs more money to wipe his ass.
