I think that for all of us Minecraft players, we all will have the same opinion on this, FLINT IS TOO HARD TO FIND. For those who prefer the bow & arrows over the simple close combat sword (which I might add, gets used up), the only problem is, most of the time when I go to craft arrows, I say to myself, "Oh great, I have like a million sticks and maybe half a million feathers, but only 5 flint, there goes my chance to get more gunpowder tonight." So I thought a nice alternative for having to dig 20 gravel blocks just to find one peice of flint is, what if you could smelt gravel in the stove to get flint? It would be a nice alternative for those of us who get bored erecting huge towers of gravel and then mowing our way down to the bottom, spending hours a day just getting flint to survive the night. So, what do you guys think?
I know, I mean, standing, jumping, and placing gravel blocks under yourself, then digging straight down. it takes forever to do, honestly, do you guys enjoy spending forever trying to find gravel? wouldn't it be so much easier if you could spend 8 blocks of coal to get 64 peices of flint, and it saves you an hour of boring digging and the chance of falling off the tower and killing yourself? (if your a n00b or a klutz that is )
Well, if you just can't be patient enough to "harvest" gravel for flint, the 2x2 crafting grid mod lets you turn 3 pieces of gravel into 1 flint. You lose to the change, but at least, you're sure to get flint.

I never do this, I just mine. I encounter way more gravel than I ever want to deal with and get plenty of flint out of the deal. One flint makes four arrows, you know. And the jump-place thing? Please, that's not a long time, mining a lake of obsidian takes a long time, making a building out of bricks takes a long time, finding enough jack-o-lanterns to line the bottom of your swimming pool takes a long time. Finding 16 flint (the amount needed to make a stack of 64 arrows) is nothing.
Do some more mining. After digging to the bedrock and doing some extensive mining to find iron, gold, and diamonds I also got more cobblestone, gravel, dirt and flint than I know what to do with as a byproduct.
I really wouldn't call flint too hard to find, however I wouldn't be apposed to a mechanism that would automatically extract flint from gravel. Of course the mechanism's that come to mind all involve water not smelting.
Then again I also think there should be a way to convert wool into string but hey I'm just crazy like that.
Still it isn't all that much work to get a shovel, throw down some gravel blocks and break them down again in an attempt to get flint.
Flint is not too hard to find. Feathers are harder to find.
If you need a lot of it. Just get gravel ane break it over and over until it creates flint. Besides I don't think flint is created when you get it from gravel. You just happen to find a piece of flint in gravel. Smelting it wouldn't do any good.
At OP : are you to scared to kill creepers with hands?? i actually go outside everynight armed with sword and nothing else collecting loot, when i get back in the morning, after several deaths(sometimes none) i have quite an amount of recsources.
Flint is easy to get. You are just lazy. One time I was out exploring and had to take shelter in a hole in the ground when night fell. I spent the night re-digging the gravel I had over and over to get some flint. So suck it up, grow some balls, and dig.
1. Make flint out of gravel ( crafting grid )
2. Dig deeper ( I usually tend to see more gravel the closer to the bottom I am )
3. Skeleton Spawner ( kind of the easiest way, you'll be swimming in arrows before you know it )
Best of luck!

I personally think that there should be a quicker way to turn gravel into flint. (For the people who have not built traps to kill skeletons yet.)
-I don't think cooking gravel in a furnace would be a good idea
-Putting gravel in your crafting square and then instantly turning it into flint may be too easy
-Maybe a new machine to convert gravel into flint is the solution?
This is just another "make the game easier for me" thread.
I think you mean: "This is just another "make the game more fun for me" thread".
People who say "learn to be a pro like me, I can dig over 9000 obsidian before breakfast"... well they are just stupid. Not everyone wants to spend days doing boring things, some people prefer to be building cool stuff or having fun adventures.
If you want to be pro, be pro, and get the hardcore mod and any other mod that would make it harder.
If you want to have fun adventures, play the game normally, on easy if you must.
If you want to build cool stuff, put the damn game on peaceful and use single player commands to get limitless amounts of stuff to build your structure.
Flint is very easy to get, but it takes quite a time.
First, look for gravel, there should be bunch of
them in pits, underwater, and on beaches.
Then dig the gravel for flint(10%). Get the remaining
gravel and place it on anywhere and dig them
again and again until you get flint.

No it isn't. It even got buffed in 1.3
If you're gravity mining it with torches you're not going to get any flint out of that, you know.

There, now gtfo and go look for flint.
Chicken farm perhaps, sir?
Try using a fortune enchanted shovel, should give you only flint
Also, this could just be me, but I find gravel drops flint more often when I punch it versus shovel it. But this could just be me...
