Do you hate that you cant dig dirt faster with a efficiency 5 string, or mine underground faster with a efficiency 4 zombie egg? I do! It is breaking custom maps, and new custom maps. It is a really small wish. If you could just set a NBT tag to 1 if you would allow using efficiency on other blocks, than supposed. I'm making a custom map, and made really awesome ideas, that i thought would work, but then i find out that efficiency only work on blocks that the tool is supposed to mine/dig.
It is not a really long topic, but it doesn't need to be long! I really hope that this gets re-implemented...
Yes, I get that. My question is why wouldn't you simply use shovels or axes?
It makes them more original if you use items, instead of plain tools with enchantments.
It looks cooler to have blazerod, that digs extremely faster, instead of a shovel.

I think I understand now. I was trying to understand it from a practical, survival standpoint.
It's just a way to make a luxury item.
The only thing is that it would kinda break survival, lol.

How? As I understand the suggestion, it would only effect the speed of items with Efficiency, which you can't really get on things like string and eggs in survival. Personally, though, I would say that Efficiency on something should be faster, but still not as fast as an Efficiency tool of the appropriate type. This could be balanced for, by setting normally unattainable levels of Efficiency on custom items.

Well, like I've said a few times now, I'm somewhat confused. As I understand, this change would allow you to place efficiency on anything?
I keep forgetting about the NBT tag part. Nevermind
It wasn't too long ago that they removed shovels being able to chop trees as efficiently as axes. I've gotten used to this and I think it's fine. Being able to dig as efficiently as a shovel with an item that has no durability is a bit overpowered. However, it's not possible to do in survival so I see no problem with non-tools gaining that ability so custom map makers can add them if they so choose.

I tried, but it could be awesome, if you had a killer apple, in a custom map. It sounds like a rare item
Well yeah... You could make a block of dirt rare in a custom map...
You didn't really answer my question though?
An alternate timeline emerges.
However, we must first start from the beginning...

It's as easy as that.
That is why it would be as an NBT tag, which would have to be changed through an editor.
As for the OP, just use haste. This isn't necessary.
